I am fairly new to ukulele and just ran across this video. I downloaded and printed the tab so I could play along with you. I thoroughly enjoyed learning these licks and plan to also watch and learn the Bluegrass Fills video. Thanks for these great lessons!
I was having a jam with a whole bunch of bluegrass playing banjoers last night which got thinking about doing some little soloing bits myself, your video looks to fit the bill perfectly! They seemed to play almost exclusively in G but I guess I just move these patterns up 2 frets and that it transposed to G. Thanks again for another wonderful tuition video, you're a star and an inspriation.
Sir, you are the first person to ever make Bluegrass make sense to me. I was able to follow your Melodies, and finally I'm getting the Bluegrass beat in my head. the hardest part for me is not so much the notes, but the swing. Thank you so much for posting this! You helped me tremendously!
@@KenMiddletonUkulele of course! 😊 I've been practicing your riffs all week, both on Banjo and on guitar! I recently bought my first electric guitar, and it sounds absolutely fantastic on it! The hardest part for me though, is the F chord. I think that's something that just comes with practice though. Thank you for sharing lessons on bluegrass!!
Wo Ken, just doing some research for a track I am contemplating on bluegrass and you were the first google hit. Again, love what you are doing for the uke in pushing the boundaries, and your willingness to teach Chris
One of the best instructional youtube videos I've seen. It's inspired me to take a crack at bluegrass. Thanks Ken, really appreciate you taking the time to do these.
These are awesome! Your explanations are very clear and smoothly paced. Big fan! If you haven't already put out more bluegrass I'll throw my vote in for more videos/tabs! :)
Vielen Dank für dieses Video. Ich habe mir vor einem Monat eine Tenorukulele gebaut und freue mich riesig, dass ich sie auf diese Weise brauchen kann. Liebe Grüsse aus der Schweiz
Ken, I'm leaving this comment before I even watch to say THANK YOU! I know this is going to be insightful, educational and fun. I've been stuck using the same couple of endings for phrases for a looooong time. Okay, time to watch!! :D
I know this is an old video but you are an awesome teacher with great technique, great sounding uke, and you play amazing well. I have seen some of your other videos like the worth vs aquila strings, loved that one also. I like both strings Aquila for bass songs worth string for the crisp and smooth classical sound. But anyway keep up the good work.
that is really great stuff. I would love to see simple slow illustrations of picking single notes along with chords using simple chord patterns. I can chord and I can pick individual notes but dont get the combining.
Many thanks! I'm looking for a country strumming method. When I sing, accompanying myself on the ukulele, on country and bluegrass themes, I'd like to find ways of strumming the ukulele that are suited to the piece I'm playing. Have you created a method based on this idea, or do you know of one, please?
How about some blues endings in the same format, Ken? I'm getting into jazz on the uke too, so any pointers on that would be useful. It was great to meet you at the festival in Dumfries last month. You certainly know your stuff! I was the guy with the crutches and the finger shaker. Thanks for taking the time to put lessons up here. Much appreciated. Sandy.
I really have been enjoying your videos. I am looking for tablulature for these endings and other tabulature for the baritone uke. Couldn't find on your site ..Can you direct me please ? thanks
Hello Ken, Hope you are doing well. My question today is do you do any bluegrass video tutorials for bluegrass on a baritone or is it more difficult to do bluegrass on that size ukulele? I like the baritone size and figure if I have to I will just change out the strings to play the normal tuning (g,c,e,a ) on the baritone. Any advice?
Yes, you could do. However, F is a good key on the ukulele. This is primarily for playing with other ukulele players, not as part of a traditional bluegrass band.
Very well done tutorial. The perfect pace and it's very thoughtful of you to include the tab. Thank you!

Thanks Mr. Middleton. You've made a very pleasant to watch and easy to understand video. I also downloaded your TAB. You are a good teacher.

+Al Smith Many thanks for your positive comments, Al.
Endings and turnarounds are something I struggle with - thanks for this!
Wow, 13 years ago! Wonderful to see you still uploading videos.
Less often now, but still going.
@@KenMiddletonUkulele What matters is you're still kicking around and enjoying what you're doing. All the best!
Go to the link and click "Download". Or, go to my website (kenmiddleton.co.uk) and and find it there. It is always free.
I put it in slow motion and it helped a lot watching your fingers. Thanks Ken!!!
Even after all these years on YT I didn't know that the videos can be played in slow motion.
@1227elib I have been thinking about that for a while. I will have to try to get around to it.
Many thanks for this excellent lesson Ken.
Thanks.

Good idea, @@KenMiddletonUkulele, thanks.
Just imitate... 🙂
Ken, thank you so much for sharing your Bluegrass Ukulele Licks....they're great, so any time you feel like doing another few.............. :-)

I was right! Thank you Ken. It was very informative and fun!
Thanks. I was going to do others in different keys. I just haven't got round to it yet.

#2 is already available. Happy playing.
Loved it Ken. A bit beyond me at the moment because I only just started, but it is very inspiring :)
Thanks Sandy.
I love your lessons and wish I had you as a music teacher in school instead of the boring ol' bat we had...
Thank you for graciously including the free tab sheets, pretty uncommon these days, blessings
Thanks for watching. Don't forget that there is part 2.
This is really cool Ken. Thanks!
Thank you for this video and tab, very enjoyable!
Thanks for this. It really helps and makes practice interesting
Glad you enjoyed it.
I record it directly into Audacity (a simple free app) using a Zoom H2. I then add EQ and reverb. However, it is a lovely-sounding uke anyway. Thanks.
@freackykit Thanks very much for the feedback, Chris.
Thanks, I am enjoying writing them.

Yes, I might just do that, Sandy. Won't be for a while though. I intend to make more tutorial videos though.
I love it Ken!

Awesome. Thanks for the lesson.
Fun Licks for ends. Would like some starts or maybe middles also.
Why not watch the part 2 video and download the sheet?
I really have been enjoying your videos. I am looking for tablulature for these endings and other tabulature for the baritone uke. Couldn't find on your site ..Can you direct me please ? thanks
I never arranged them for baritone uke. But just play the tenor versions. Instead of being n F they will be in the key of C.
Thanks for taking the time to do this (these). Do you have any of these in tabs for low G
You can play them all on a low G instrument. If I remember correctly, the 4th string isn't used.
Glad to be of help.
thankyou so much for this tutorial and Tabs, I love it :)
Thanks for watching, Cath.

Thx Ken.
No probs.
thanks.
very helpful thanks a lot.
Thanks for watching.
Not many bluegrass songs done in the key of F, ...do you use a capo at the Second fret to get in the key of G?
You can do if you are playing with bluegrass instruments.
Cool! Thanks a lot!
Thanks.
What brand of uke are you using. Sounds good.
Kanile'a
I have a question: Why is g sharp on the tab? I thought key of F is F, G, A, Bflat, C, D, E?
Thanks!
Bluegrass does not just stick to the notes of the major scale.
cool voice
What are you following clever man?
@charloleptifoufou Thanks.
Thanx ken! Great 😃
My pleasure.
@@KenMiddletonUkulele Is there a possibility you could make train 45 from Woody Guntrie for the uke?: ua-cam.com/video/w0hDr4a9z48/v-deo.html
I'm afraid not. Sorry.
What type of ukulele is this? a classical? im trying to listen to videos to see what type i would want
It is a tenor, made by Ohana.
Do you capo up when doing bluegrass endings in G or A
Yes, you could do. However, F is a good key on the ukulele. This is primarily for playing with other ukulele players, not as part of a traditional bluegrass band.
it's not there to download :-(
that was celestial
excellent, namaste"
Is that a tenor you are playing in this video?
+slh1943 Yes, it is a tenor.
I can only find tabs for songs. Where are the tabs please for the licks?
Never mind, I found them. Thank you so much for these.
You really need to look more closely. 7th from the top.
No need to be snarky. I commented right after that I found it. I'm so sorry to trouble you.
It is sad that you choose to judge me.
I’m sorry. I’m having a horrible day. I took what you said wrong.
