- From 1966, here is an Easy-Show projector. These came out in the mid-sixties after the very successful (and continuing) run of the Give-a-Show Projector, which projected still color slides of cartoons.
This projector used Regular 8mm (before Super8mm) black and white film. Each real contained two short cartoon or movie features. Quality was poor, as this was powered by three batteries and had very basic lens and shutter systems. It was also a challenge for a child to thread this. I should know, I had this same model and film set when I was 6. Eventually, these evolved to color films and then the reels gave way to integrated, snap-in film cartridges.
Technically, it would have been better for parents to get their kids a basic, standard projector, as there was a ton of color children's films available in that format on standard reels.

I owned the blue one. My cartridges were the Marvel Super Heroes. I loved this toy. The other thing you could do with it because of the crank was run the film backwards. That was a revelation. Thanks for posting this.

The conical springs to produce the shutter effect over the rounded pegs is simplicity GENIUS.
They are. I couldn't believe it as an adult, and getting this, that it was so simple. It actually works. The problem with the toy is that it just begged to tangle film, and kids of the age this was meant for were simply too young to deal with the tears and tangles.
My sister had one of these as a kid. I don't remember having trouble with loading the film but I do remember the handle breaking. As kids we thought the ability to show cartoons on the wall in a darkened room was about the greatest thing you could ask for. Thanks for the video and stirring old memories from yesteryear..
Oh yeah I owned one of these back in the '60s, I had the red one and I remember watching black and white bugs bunny cartoons. Great Memories!
When I was 10 years old, back in 1965, my brother got one for Christmas. It was not a cartoon, it was a real movie of the adventures of Superman! How priceless it would be today!
All you need are the TV Tinykins of Pixie and Dixie and you got it man!

What a delight to see this again. With seven kids in the house something was bound to get lost or broken, so every Christmas I asked for one of these projectors or the give a show ones that had the slides. What fond memories!! It makes me want one again.
I, being spoiled rotten ( I realise now) was the proud recipient of the blue one in the late 60s. It was one of my favourite possessions. I used to make audio recordings on my handy dandy cassette recorder of the characters and I would then try to sync up the film and sound when I projected it on my bedroom door to anyone who I could get to watch. I do remember getting frustrated loading the films at times. Thanks for the wonderful presentation and bringing back fond memories.

I am glad! I have been collecting old toys since the 80s, some I wanted back that had been given away, some I never had and wanted. Some I restored to get to work and that has been a great hobby.
I had one as a kid! It was my favorite toy! I spent literally hundreds of hours playing with it.

Very accurate presentation. I had one and as fun as it was, it would jam up all the time. I remember having a Superman episode, I forgot the other reels. I was thrilled whenever it did work. If I had had alkaline batteries that would've been even better. Those old zinc-carbon batteries didn't shine bright for long. Lois, Jimmy, where are you?
Oh man , this brings me back ! My mom got me the red one for Christmas when I was a kid . The one's that I had were the Herculoids , Moby Dick and the Mighty Mightor , Space Ghost and I believe Adam Ant too . They were fun to use on a rainy day . To think before the VCR''S , and later DVD's , Easy Show Projectors were our sources of entertainment . Thanks for posting this ! ☺👍
Wow!! This is the best you tube video ever! I had one of these as a kid.Mine was the super hero themed version.With Capt America (im guessing '68 or '69).I remember the crazy high feeling I got as a kid rolling my own movies.I always thought about this toy but could never remember the name .So I was brought here by scouring google search.I also remember how difficult it was to get the film looped in.This was by far my favorite toy as a kid.Thanks so much for this video..I can finally R.I.P now!!!
I had the red version of this projector and Scooby Doo was one of the "movies". I think I got mine around 1970 and I think the cartoon was in colour (but not positive about that). I remember asking Santa for this and I was sooooooooo excited when I saw the wrapped box, because I knew what was inside it. I pretended I had a movie theatre in my bedroom and my sister and parents would be the patrons. I made a marquee and little paper tickets. I remember threading the film was very frustrating but after a lot of practice, I mastered it. Thanks for creating this video. It was a great blast from the past and I wish I still had this and some of my other old toys, as I am sure they are worth good money these days.
Thanks for sharing Ken! The later versions of these did in fact have color films. Unlike you, I never mastered the threading and ended up tangling all my films, my sister trying to splice them back with scotch tape. Later, they redesigned it with cartridges and motorized projectors. I love that you created you own movie house! We would do things like use Tonka trucks for "patrons" take their "tickets" (a Wolverine math teaching unit would serve as the cash register img1.etsystatic.com/138/0/12469289/il_570xN.1040692155_1gyy.jpg )and put on puppet shows.
I had one in the U.K. branded under "either Chad Valley or Casdon..loved it. I got mine about 1970
The 8 track of video! They also came out with a 16MM version where you could "Change The Channel"
Our generation is getting spoiled with getting these cartoons on DVDs, on Demand, we can record them. I guess that's all you had back then if you wanted to watch Yogi Bear or Bugs Bunny whenever you want. I want one of these; I love nostalgia.
My older Sister got the Kenner Show And Tell projector that same Christmas, it looked like a TV with a phonograph on top that played records that were synchronized with slides that slowly changed in time with the recording. The only one I remember was The Prince And The Pauper.
Wow. I was looking on Flickr at Christmas catalogs and saw these. I dawned on me that I had one of these.
I had one and I only had 3 cartridges,but it was my favorite toy. I recall that rhe bulb burnt out and it was a one of a kind bulb at the time. It seemed to me that my father took me to 100 stores to find the right bulb. Sometimes we would get a bulb that lasted a very short time, maybe an hour and burnt out quickly.

I was also a lucky enough kid to get one for Christmas in the late 60's, a bit later edition. My favorite reel included The Munsters. It was fascinating, but as you pointed out, the mechanism worked somewhat poorly and the excitement of the toy soon faded once the film got bound up. Thanks for sharing.

It's funny, I REMEMBER them as though they were in color! They did move to color when they brought out the motorized projectors, and possibly even before then. I believe the Archie ones forward were all in color.

I got one for Christmas the first year they came out. Two of the reels that I had were Popeye/Alvin And The Chipmunks the other one was Lassie/The Three Stooges. Can't remember what the other reel was.
I had one of these as a kid and never had a problem with it! You are correct though about the projection being on the dark side.

Wow, I got one of these for Christmas 1965 when I was 8 , it came with a silent Munsters film. I couldn't figure out how it worked so I cut the film ( to find an end piece like at school) and it never worked right. Stupid of me, I should of asked an adult since it was a pricey toy. Thanks for the memory. JD
I had the Marvel Super-Heroes set. I don't recall having any troubles loading the spools. I had the spoils up until a few years ago... but no projector.

@twombonu Yes, they also had some westerns, Munsters, and some other live action films. As a matter of fact, those character themed sets are in fact worth alot!
Great video! I just purchased one of these but it has some problems. Do you know what size/volt bulb it can use?
I got a red one for Christmas. B&W film. Of course I immediately jammed it up. So easy a child can use it my a**. 🙄
Yep, that was the problem. All three of my reels became tangled, my parents got me a few more, they got tangled too. Even my older sister, who always had the engineer's mind and helped me out, was frustrated with the thing. Likely why, years later, they moved to enclosed cartridges.

Ah the toys of the 60's. I always wanted a Kenner slide projector. I'll have to look in my old SEARS Christmas catalog from 1965 to see if they have this one. But I do still have my Mattel Creepy Crawlers and Mini Dragons ThingMaker set. Sadly, the heating element doesn't work.

i have several fil cartridges that the films came off off.do you know and can you tell me how to wind them back onto the plastic cartridge?i cant for the life of me figure it out,thanks!!
After a couple of months with the red version, and the jamming, and the dim blurry pictures, this 9 year old (me) discovered you can make the loop bigger and use a real 8mm home movie projector.
Wow. I got a red one of these as a Christmas present, in 1970 or so. It NEVER worked. It was probably old-stock and had been sitting in the store for a while. One of the cartoons that came with it was "Mighty Mightor" which only ran on TV in 1967 or 68. It really was a disappointing piece of junk. The lens came in handy later--I used it for a cub scout project.
They have nothing like this for the kids today. I looked everywhere for my grandchild but theirs nothing out there. If they only would fix this old problem and put these back out there where it would be almost impossible to break they would sell a ton of these!

+Caleb Nanney You mean does the film have sound? No, it is only 8mm, no sound on the film. Although there were regular 8mm films put out by various companies, they are rather rare and Regular 8mm projectors that could play sound were very rare as well--for example, the Fairchild system. You may be thinking of sound Super 8mm film, which was available for a number of years later on, and there were many Super8mm sound projectors made. These were all Regular 8mm film systems with no sound at all.

Years ago when my projector broke I rolled all my film on 8mm reals and showed it on a real 8mm projector. When I looked at it the other day I was surprised to find that it was not really film it was printed on the film with waterbased ink and all the ink had run from moisture. So if you have any of these old carts you must keep them dry!

In Europe,these Kenner Projector are sold as "Dux Kino" in 1969.
You want a 4.5-6v battery, screw-in type. Should be able to get something at Radio Shack that works!

The film was 8mm any 8mm film will work you can find 8mm cartoon films online. You would have to spinn them onto one of the old carts and tape them up in a loop.
@1mrmoose Sure you could. You could "telecine" them yourself at home, or even take them off the reels, splice them together and have a conversion company convert them for you. But it would not be worth it. The shows were just edited versions of the cartoons, many of which you can already buy on DVD. I just saw the Atom Ant I showed you on Boomerang, it was much longer and in color, but it was the same episode.

I had a movie projecter that had cartrages like scooby doo back in the 70s Ibeen looking for them but i for got the name. Thay show one i had on the Boomerang (TV channel) it was red my dad & mon put it up somewhere then my sister got rid of all the old toys when she got my dad house . can any one tell me the name & where i can find one thanks

@boffinme80 You are welcome. With my two boys, I expose them to alot of things, and yes, good or bad, I spoil them. My little boy has an Ipod, and my teen has an Iphone. My little boy will play with computer games, but then will set it down and play with Tinkertoys for hours. I just left them out long enough to get his interest. That is what you have to do. My teen son and I fly R/C planes, now THAT is a hobby. He has no interest in flight simulators, it has to be real planes!!!

I made a functional toilet out of Legos. It worked pretty good, but I stopped using it. Too difficult to get a round plunger into the square hole.

I also had in the 70's a styrofoam ship with a helicopter that let you pick up a little man . like a rescue operation. I was so good at it where i played it for hrs. Then my dad & mom put it away lol It just went around in a circle & was attached to the ship in the center . wish i could find this too any one have a clue.

The film for these things was not durable and it broke incredibly easily.
You are right. And they would get tangled very easily. It was preposterous to think that the kids at the age shown on the box could possibly thread these things and keep them in working order. Still, they sold a ton, so mission accomplished!
