Mine were stored in an old steamer trunk in my parents garage. Unfortunately, a flood drowned them all. My brother and I had 7 or 8 action figures, the Mercury space capsule, the Jeep with firing howitzer and spotlight trailer, the motorcycle & sidecar, and at least 2 of the footlockers. We were military brats, so playing with GI Joe came naturally.

@@kevinbergeman4069 That breaks my heart, and I’m not kidding. I had the entire Justice League of America comic collection from 1963 up to 1985 in my parent’s attic. About 1993 or so my mom called me to inform me that her house burned down and took all those comics with it. She was in tears when she told me, so I told her that her health was more important than a bunch of comic books, but inside I was like “NOOO! Not my comics!!!” 🤣🤣🤣

I had or played with some of these toys. There is one well known brand of toy that should be mentioned here. Tonka toys. They were quite popular during the 1960s. They were made mostly from steel and they lasted a long time. Many examples survive to this day.

After the Hot Wheels cartoon came out for Saturday mornings, my dad bought me one of the limited edition Jack Rabbit Specials from the show. I wish I still had that car. I hear that it is worth a lot of cash ($400 for one in good original shape). But a then seven year old thinks about playing, not collecting.

Btw, in the early '70s my younger sister liked Barbies. She & my brother would stage elaborate executions which resulted in Barbie decapitation.

Please don't forget the Robot Commando. It threw balls from its arms, shot a missile from its head and had scary rotating googly eyes. My little sister never lets me forget how I tormented her with that thing (sorry sis).

I grew up in the 1960s. I remember wanting a G.I. Joe about 2 years after it came out. I got it, I Hated it! He had weird hard plastic hands and couldn't hold his weapons or any of his gear! And poor kids like me could only have 1. He was also a giant and didn't mesh with my Army Men. I mostly remember Army Men and Matchbox cars. Hot Wheels didn't come out until 1967 and I only got toys for another year as I turned 10. There were no Super Heroes back then, so if you wanted to play Super Heroes you had to sacrifice some of your soldiers or Cowboys, cut off their guns and make up your own characters. From Indians you got your 'Archer', 'Atomic Axe', and one had a Shield.

That's the one I had too. I have red hair, it made sense. I had mine in the early 70s & you'd pull his dogtag & he would say something. I suspect my brother has all that stuff or it ended up going to Goodwill.
