Tbh, one of the things I love the most about these old sets is that you could flip open the top lid and they placed the minifigures/big pieces in plastic molds so that you could look at them in the toy store. I LOVE THAT.
I remember that, but sometimes the mini-figs would be stolen, so I am guessing that's why they stopped.
I think most of us, who remember this style of boxes from our childhoods, love them. Their really incredible. I think it's cost more to make these and therefore Lego abandoned this style, but gosh, they were so cool.
I assume that if you try and take anything from the Lego Vault the entire Danish Army will be deployed to hunt you down?
+Diesel Electric Razor Yes.
Beyond the Brick well I'm gonna need something that can knock out a Leopard 2 now
Diesel Electric Razor They lay down legos that when stepped upon blows your foot off... :)
The Danish army is quite a joke
Diesel Electric Razor also a-10 all you need and a sabot shell
They weren't exactly careful with those 30+ year old sets.
Time wasn't either.
No, those sets held up rather well (unless you're talking quality wise). They just pulled them out and started manhandling them like they pleased. Lifting up flaps, shaking the loose bricks. Well you get the idea.
LordDavid04 i built a 12+ Lego Architecture set with my dad when i was eight
Cooldude321 GD savage
They have multiple copies of each set in different storage places
They could lock me in there for years... i wouldn't mind
I'd also probably kill for the UCS Millenium Falcon...
Freelancer221 same
HEY KID.
_Wanna buy some LEPIN?_
ButterChully lol
UCS? you mean the one at 18:52? nvm i found out which one you were talking about
TheCactusKnights No he means the one at 22:53
This is so cool, about half way through the video. Not quite to my childhood yet but seeing all these older sets is quite a sight. Thanks for uploading this!

I miss old-style lego boxes.
The new ones can only be opened by damaging it.
Plus, the plastic windows and flaps in the larger ones were really amazing.
The different styles of packaging over the years were pretty interesting too on the whole...
mmh.
What I wouldn't give for a lego VR program that has all the old sets in it.
I'd settle for everything up to 2000 in fact. XD
Such a great tour. I got very nostalgic seeing the 1990s-early 2000s LEGO sets. Of course, inevitably, some of them reminded me of Robin W who had a very strong and iconic classic town collection. He, and the time periods from which I got to enjoy the likes of those classic sets, are and will always be missed.
brickbuilder711 my father had the wild west sets all of them but when he grew older he gave all of them to his friends
I noticed that struggle of not wanting to put the falcon down, I feel you...
ItS yE BOy
Still got mine ;)
Bought one brand new. Won't open it. Mint condition
those evil people not looking at the bionicle sets
I CAME SPECIFICALLY FOR BIONICLE I AM PISSED!!!!!!!!
me too
my childhood was fictionally roleplaying/battling with bionicle figures. I still remember the commercials. "New sets from lego Bionicle"
Yeah, they ignored them, system purists am I right!?
Bionicle sucks. Hero factory is where it’s at
I just wish I had a copy of each of those, had the money to rent a large building, and make an unofficial LEGO Museum.
I had same idea too
I would love to have sets from 1980 to 1999 I really like the space theme and adventure theme!
I would love to do that, but I would build all the sets and display each whole theme together as one set (maybe just split the long-running themes like Star Wars up a bit)
14:33 literally made me gasp and I got so choked up. That is one of my favorite sets of all time. Thanks for sharing this
Bring back the Technic figures, I love them! Those articulations were awesome. Can you imagine something like all the Star Wars characters made with Technic figures? That would be great.
Hope they take a good care for Bionicle, since it saved their asses.
Král Václav I. Yeah I fell in love with bionicle i remember back in 2001 you could go to Kohls and get canisters for 7$ ah the good ol days
15:10 .... first bionicle sets man.... i was hoping he would show all sets
and I'm over here feeling like Bionicle was one of the worst things lego ever made. guess I'm an old fuddy duddy
Joseph Roberts agreed lol
@@joepatbob Or maybe you never actually looked into what it was? It's an amazing, deep, lore-filled fictional universe, rivaling Star Wars, Avatar (the animated series), Star Trek and more. Originally taking inspiration from Polynesian tribal island societies, it grew to be a whole mythology, scinece fantasy, and more.
It wasn't the bricks, but LEGO is allowed to branch out and do other things if they desire that. I don't want to be meane to you or anyone else, but most of the time when AFOLs critiqued LEGO back in the day, it just came across as if they had some weird irrational fear that BIONICLE would somehow replace the brick that made LEGO what it truly was. And they often also didn't even know what it was. They were simply angry that LEGO had put any focus into something that wasn't compatible with System, although it was if you were creative enough. And trust me, BIONICLE is far from the worst they've ever made. It's probably the best STORY they've ever told. Not the best toys, per se, but best story.
It also saved them from bankruptcy along with LEGO Star Wars, mainly because of the new, modern, alternative way of advertising through story and mystery, different media like novels, comics, movies and online websites with games - rather than an onslaught of glossy commercials. If you want to try and see what BIONICLE was really about, maybe check out the Mata Nui Online Game. It's a great point and clicker and an amazing intro to its fictional universe :D It's like Myst, but BIONICLE. The lore got more complicated later. Like you wouldn't even believe it. Species, locations, powers, heroes and villains and morally grey characters. And some of the MOCists working with BIONICLE can make amazing thigns that you would never fathom. It still spins my brain.
Sadly, even within LEGO BIONICLE is a controversial line, with many people in the actual company also disregarding it because it's not System or whatever. I think that is very, very sad. Especially since great MOCs that mostly use System also use their parts sometimes to great effect! They don't have to love it, but I am sure they could see how successful it was and know that if they had continued it, they could have sold a lot more, and evolved a story that continued to captivate the minds of its fans. A lot of which also bought, no *buys*, normal System LEGO. The world still has great potential to tell stories in, to this day. So I hope Generation 1 comes back one day. Generation 2, by the way, was the failed, horrible reboot in 2015-2016. LEGO obviously didn't care much when they made it, and completely disregarded fans' wishes to bring the G1 universe back, or even tell a half-decent story. They forgot that that was what sold BIONICLE so well in the first place.
When he is talking to the lego employee at the end and all you can see in the background is the lego indiana jones sets. So many memories from that theme 😢
dragonborn2709 😭😤🤬
I wish they had a public museum where everyone could visit and see the boxes. Not in stacks but proper, like under non reflective glass. Also, they should make possible to order old "retired" LEGO sets as bagged versions. Just re-mold old pieces and have the robot warehouse put together the sets.
Miner 2049er I don't know about LEGO policy regarding issuing old versions again, but I personally believe that doing anniversary redoing of Yellow castle 375 would be great. They can do small modification ( instead of yellow to make red, white, black, grey....) version with current soldiers and horses with limited amount of 250 000 pieces ( or what would be economical for LEGO)!
How about a museum where you could build every set ever made yourself?
even just a virtual museum would be nice
My mom wanted that set in Her child hood but never got it. But now its like 3000 dollors ;-:
oh the nostalgia..
It's rare that two people agree on what the best LEGO set ever released was. Good call Joshua. 🌵 Great video!
I could really get jealous. You cannot imagine how much I would give to enter this vault at least once.

The old lego boxes with a flap need to make an comback! feels so exclusive
This is so cool. I would spend days there just looking at the boxes
Who cares about boxes? I'd spend months building them!
The exo force stuff was super underrated I remember my mom would buy them from marshals on clearance for super cheap at the time for me and my brothers.
They should give these out randomly to people at my address.
Evolved Turtle Productions No!!?? Why would they! They want to keep a copy of all their sets!
+Saktuscactus That was a joke. And *WHOOSH* is the sound of the joke going over your head!

@@drxshock6957 Su I was dumb back then
I was crying the whole video knowing that I can't buy any of these sets.
Wonder Twins same.
i feel your pain borther
Amin Mahingostar i don't think most people who want to buy any of these sets have problems about their availability, it's more a problem of the price of those sets. Lego products in general is just too expensive.
Buy them from Bricklink.
Wonder Twins I wish Lego just made a store where any Lego set of any era was available.. where you can just go to a Lego factory and just buy the sets you need for regular price!
Never understood why Lego doesn't do vintage reissues, that Truck Stop from the late 80s, I'd get at least 10 of them.
Great content. Keep it up!
I wish they wood reissue the Lego sets from 1980 threw 1997. The golden age of legos.
Mime would be the space theme.
@@char2c584 Mine is pre-license obsession, which started about 2000 so I suppose pre-2000.
pre 2000s Lego was the best
Man I had so many of these sets that fell apart and got lost and now they sell for hundreds
Brick Built haven't we all
Brick Built the worst feeling ever isn't it ugh
they only sell for hundreds as a complete/unopened set. Opened ones sell for less than half of the unopened value, if that
I had the cloud city set and i moved and my mom left my legos
Yeah, but we had fun.It was worth it.
Some of those old box arts look like the dollar general rip offs
legspider8 or rip offs look old
Guys, I really appreciate you did that! You've made my day :)!
+LEGOVlad's studio Thanks for watching!
I was born in 2000 and you made me cry see all my memories 😊 thank you
The way some of these guys handled the boxes made me mad.
This is the only place I want to see. Hope to one day realize the dream.
That LEGO technic forklift was also my first technic set
So the Lego archive vault is basically a Lego museum?
This is an archive, there was a museum above.
Cyborg Gaming
Was? Was this an oversight or did they do something?
Impressive. Is there a way to clone the archive?
Thegamer 16 ;)
Thegamer 16 exactly
3D printing
Perhaps Lego will employ such techniques in the future when making actual elements, rather than just prototypes.
I hope so

Great video, great place, but they barely mentioned Bionicle. I always thought those sets were more significant, especially the early stuff.
+Flobbled THANK YOU. The first few generations were of great importance to the lego history because they were so favorited.
Flobbled they kept lego from going bankrupt, by far my fav sets from lego, i have at least 2 of each gen, except hordika and visorak and the vahki. i didnt like the 2015 ones at all
I loved the original Bionicles from back in 2003 or maybe 2004? I was 5 years old, it's what got me into lego.
YESS
@@jaccovandendobbelsteen5298 You mean the first few waves? "Generation" as a term in the BIONICLE fanbase is usually used to classify the first incarnation of BIONICLE that ran from 2000/2001 to 2010, and the the hard (and failed - and bad) reboot that ran from 2015 to 2016. As in Generation 1 and Generation 2. So, I think the word you're looking for is Waves :) Or seasons or years.
„Ach biste deutsch?“

That's my childhood can't believe I remember it I was 2 years old
When I was little I would just stare at the lego catalog for hours at a time
I like to believe that 2006 was the best year of line of lego sets
Not a bad choice.
legobdr more like 2008
legobdr 1998,1999, 2006
2006-2009 imo. I completed 2006 Batman and Star Wars waves and they're some of my favourite sets I own. I remember seeing the UCS Falcon in David Jones (department store in my country) for a little while and I kinda regret not saving up for it.
2001-20010 for me.
Yeah Exo-Force! Awesome serie, I would love it when Lego would do a remake or something of this sets!
"AHH SHOW BIONICLE!" I can't be the only one
U are not my friend
I was trying to look at all the stuff you didn't show - lol
They should produce one of those vintage sets once a year for collectors 😊
Every Lego enthusiast's dream room. Every single Lego set! In one place. A lot of money down there. And a lot of memories too.
If I was the last person on earth this would be my first stop.
This is crazy. Thank you for this nostalgia trip.
Bit surprised at the lack of attention towards most of the Bionicle sets. Which is unfortunate because I was rather looking forward to seeing them here.
Omg i loved bionicle !!!
Man, LEGO really tried quite hard to get the Friends formula for nearly a decade until they succeeded, but obviously far later than they initially planned.
My first actual set (after the 1999 Duplo storage container/bin/tub - this doesn't count as it's a parts box) was the Celestial Stinger 1998 set because my mother believed there was more value in getting a giant (relatively expensive at the time) set as opposed to a single small set with limited functionality. The second biggest set that I got after my mother bought me smaller expansion kits along the way was the Star Wars Sith Infiltrator 1999 set.
My childhood was awesome thanks to those sets. Thanks, LEGO. And thank you for making this video to bring me down memory lane! LEGO Model Team was my biggest must-have (but too expensive to ACTUALLY have) when I was younger. :D
The 90s Technic sets are my favorite, but they were so expensive :( I had the LEGO catalogue every year and browsed it everyday and dreamed about those big ass sets every night.
How was Lego Tecnic expensive in the 90's ?? Lego sets back then were all cheap compared to those from these last 15 years, some sets are today ridiculously overpriced for whats offered surely Star Wars , Architecture and Creator the non-expert ones . Or it depends in what country you live in ? Back then you had many sets below $5€ today they're at $10€ or $15€ . Guess it is best to wait when there are promotions, sales , or last sets from older theme's they usualy do -60% or -70% off .
This is easily one of the coolest lego videos I've seen. So neat to see how lego has changed over the years!
No rock raiders / power miners? :(
minerbart Power Miners was one of my favorite lines!
I think my favorite line was exo-force. Unfortunately, I don't have any XD
minerbart wtf of course they have power miners
Rock raiders is always gonna be better than power miners
minerbart 12:53 it's on the shelf above the set he's holding. that I HQ 😢😢
I love the presentation of how lego packaged their older sets. Now we get a bunch of bags. They probably changed to take care of the environment
It's almost like they were avoiding Bionicle as much as possible.
Around 21:00 made my favourite memories. I had alot of 2006 sets that I really loved, especially that X-wing and the Batmobile, I remember those were the only waves I've completed because I loved every set in them (Batman and Star Wars, I mean).
14:34 i still have this i got it for christmas when i whas 7 years old... :D but it´s incomplete :(
I ordered the missing parts and now it´s complete. cost me a bit of money, but was definitely worth it. one of lego´s best castles still.
I can see how this can be a very emotional tour for many through some intense nostalgia.
*Seeing the unreleased Bionicle sets got me like* :trollfacecumemoji:
Did they have unreleased BIONICLE sets? Perhaps this is a typo error.
Oh man, so many sets from when I was a kid were shown! Thank you for letting us look with you. I was definitely looking forward to seeing Bionicle featured a bit but I caught sneak peaks in the background several times ;) Thanks team!
23:10 "how much was the set?" "$500" I about had a heart attack at my keyboard and died.
Ethan Hernandez died as in laughed so hard or died as in dead? Is died as in dead, then you wouldn't be able to write this comment
i had all the castle/forest men and pirate stuff from the mid 80's to early 90's this vid brought back lots of memorys thanks for sharing
Man i would kill for some of those old knight sets. Theyre so expensive online now, especially sealed.
You completely missed the most iconic 80's space sets
I know where to go during the purge
5:30 In my opinion 1990's sets were the best LEGO set version so far, BASED ON REAL IMAGINATION, far from city esterotypes, or worse yet, based on lucrative commercial brands, like nowadays LEGO sets comes.
I wonder if the factories keep the old Lego molds.
Great video as always. I like how you said your sets from your childhood as those were my dark ages. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. (Even at my age today, seeing the Galaxy Explorer made my heart skip a beat or two)
Random people: "Lets raid area 51."
The Lego vault: "Am I a joke to you?"

Its funny to see how lego evolved over the years, from rly simpel models to crazy builds from today
whelp... now I gotta watch this. There goes 30 minutes of my life, lol
What amazes me more than the collection itself is the setup of shelves they have where you turn the handle and the next one opens like a trap door lol.
When did they release pneumatic? With the pumps and air tanks

LEGO should really try a vintage series : each year, release 2 or 3 old staple sets.Guaranteed they wouls sell well and makes many adults and children happy.
These guys in the background are talking german
Legorado was my favorite as well! I was only 5 and only had some of the smaller sets in the series but man those were awesome, and the pirate sets of the 90's as well were great
where are the LEGO mars mission sets ?
I think this is the coolest video you guys have ever posted.
And you post a lot of cool videos.
I wouldn't be surprised if News Reported The Lego Sets Vault Stolen from One Day Lol
Nice to see my first lego sets again. The Galaxy cruiser and the yellow fork lift. I played with those sets that much, I could build them from memory!
this is so cool than the Lego city or just the same cool looking
2:54 thats the galaxy explorer! i love that set!
I don't get why they're totally overlooking all the robotics and lego technic
They’re underwhelming
FORT LEGOREDO! My uncle gave me that set (including instructions and box, only a few pieces missing) when he went off to college. It's sitting up on my display shelves right now, so is the box. The general person (black legs) is one of my favorite minifigures I own, rivaled by my Doctor Strange and my custom Overlord figure (not based off of anything)

The 10% is Bionicle that they stash away, what the LEGO System Lobby don't want you to see...
Just brought me back my childhood. Thank you guys !
If you visited this place, how hard would it be to not steal everything? For me it would be very hard!
22:36 I remember 8 year old me almost buying this set. Man, brings back memories. :')
