Jesus did once mention that He was capable of using deadly force, when He mentioned to Peter that he could call for over twelve legions of angels to make short work of the Romans. The reason Jesus didn't do that was because He was fulfilling prophecy which involved allowing the Romans to take Him and ultimately crucify Him.

The idea of selling your coat falls short in today's time. In Jesus's time a person's cloak was more important. It was their prayer closet. It was their shelter from the weather and the cold. It was their blanket at night. So, the command to sell their cloak carries a lot more weight. In modern terms, that means to sell your coat, blanket, bedroll, mattress, and heavy duty tent if you have to, to buy a weapon for self defense. As for having two, I am thinking that since he was sending them out separately, that meant "per person".
It takes two swords one for spiritual battles one for physical danger! My personal opinion King James V for my spiritual protection and .44 for physical attackers
The only thing is that we cannot take matter into our own and we need to not interrupt gods will if we get slaped on the right side we need to allow them the left, hard to chew...
@@07350zVegas I know that rule. Am not confrontational by any means however is unwise to be unprepared for it is when good men are silent & dosil that the evil among men propagates
* Hey brother. Consider this: David had a primitive gun which he used against Goliath. It was a weapon which shot a projectile forward toward the enemy resulting in their defeat. Sound familiar ? And victory was attributed to David in the name of God. So it was his weapon of choice which he used but with God on his side. Also read the 4 gospels side by side about when the Pharisees and the soldiers come for Jesus our Lord in the night. You will see in each that they came to get him with swords and weapons. Thus when Jesus advises Peter that those who live by the sword die by the sword it seemed logical to me that he was thus referring to those who came after Himself, because they live by the sword, coming after Jesus with an offensive of weapons. This makes sense. Then to Peter he tells him to put it back into its sheath, not throw it away, and at this time it was because Jesus wanted him to know that the Son Of Man was destined for this to happen. I asked for a diligent Bible study and these are what the Lord showed me. I think that we should consider also the element of faith. One must not reach quickly for a weapon unless there is no other choice. A defensive weapon for a Christian is only used while one is praying to God actively in their situation seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit. Sharing my thoughts since I’ve thought much about it. God bless you brothers.
Thanks Pastor, very interesting word. Somewhat confused because as Christians word says protect our loved ones but not to engage in battle as well armed militia? As stated in 2nd amendment of constitution? Is one of the world ideology? The other by word of God? 😊❤Rob.
I don't think Jesus was telling his disciples to buy a sword for defense. I think he wanted to make himself look like the leader of a group of brigands in order to secure his arrest when the officials inevitably arrived. As a self defender, this idea has really made me struggle with the idea of getting into a possible gun fight when someone points a gun at just me. Would I die committing a sin if I really just got the short end of the stick in a life and death scenario?
Luke 22:36 "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one". Don't forget about Revolation 19:11 "...was called faithful and true, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war." Just an ironic coincidence this verse has the same number as the 1911 handgun?!? I don't think so, God was sending a message.
Love your feed. Love what you do! I am a law abiding citizen, and a god fearing man. I watched the movie "Hacksaw Ridge" based on a true story. Do you think faith gets us through? (Probably got to watch it. ) or luck.... or both? God said the faith of a mustard seed in him and you can walk on water... but he says don't test it.... something like that. ..
If people would actually read the Bible they would come to a place where Jesus sent his followers out to tell the people about Him to take extra clothes, food , money and a weapon to protect themselves that should tell you that Jesus approved of armed self defense.
I agree to an extent. I like your channel. I own and carry guns. But most disciples were martyrs, and that spread christianity (then and now) more than anything. I don't think we will answer for protecting ourselves or our families, but quoting one scripture and not also quoting "love thy enemies" is another. Yes, when Jesus returns He will carry the sword of God. Just saying.
We have to be very careful to use God's word how he intends and not read into it what we want it to say. I could use 1 Samuel 17:40 to justify my choice of carrying a five shot revolver, but that would display an incorrect interpretation of scripture. P.S. I do carry a five shot revolver, but I don't believe the Bible is specific about what is the best tool for defending my family and I.....only that I do so.
dagger, its interesting as PSA is releasing a pistol called Dagger. ( Glock 3rd gen clone ) Does this sound like a modern day call from God for protection? Or am I just reading too much into it?
The word of God is always our first defense but a snubby .38 can convince the slow learners, or the persistant evil doers, to listen more carefully to the word.
Anybody who is against being protected through force of arms, it doesn't make sense for them to live in a country where you are protected by force of arms, any country that has an army and a police force. That would include the USA but certainly not be limited to the USA.
I would like you to do a video on if your a pre triber, mid triber or post triber and why . By your understanding of the scriptures on self defense i assuming that you are a post trib . And that in Matthew 24. 9 and mark 13 .24 Jesus said he will return after the trid not before.
What has been the bane of Christian ethics was how the bible was interpreted while it was being cobbled together at the first council of Nicea in about 345 AD. Words are 'spells' that can be used to change the meanings subtly of a given idea. What went before that creation of the bible as we know it, changed the character of the 5th commandment from 'Tho shalt not commit MURDER'. The Roman Catholic translators wrote instead 'Thou shalt not KILL' this is an accepted belief that any killing at all was a sin. This made everyone essentially a sinner, and possibly deserving of forgiveness for which you paid a fine in Catholic dogma. What it has achieved over time was the creation of a roadblock to being able legitimately to kill an attacker, whose agenda was the murder of the person attacked. This kept a reasonable man from killing even under a murderous attack of themselves or their families. This was done purposefully to protect the evil ones from those sheep who followed the path they laid out for adherents. The religious sheep went on normally up to now killing daily for sustenance as meat eaters. Karmicly it goes like this. If you kill an attacker the attacker gets the bulk of the karma and it is deemed, 'self murder'. In a similar vein if you kill yourself it is deemed 'self murder' and you get karmic return. It is God's will that we seek to maintain our lives as best we can and to not allow someone to take your life without push back. Refusing to maintain your life while under attack makes you culpable for your own death similar to suicide, 'self murder' so you share the Karmic burden. We are not 'sheep' or rabbits and must fight to keep ourselves safe from the dark ones.
try reading What God Tells You to Do People 1 Timothy 5:8, KJV: "But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel." 35Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you out without purse or bag or sandals, did you lack anything?” “Nothing,” they answered. 36“Now, however,” He told them, “the one with a purse should take it, and likewise a bag; and the one without a sword should sell his cloak and buy one.…
I still don’t see the connection made at 4:25 in scripture about whether Jesus actually means for us to defend our lives and loved ones in the realm of physical self defense. We are more so to defend the faith than our earthly lives is what I’m getting from scripture. Help me to see what you see because there’s nothing I’d want less than to not feel justified for defending myself or family in a situation where I felt it or they were being threatened. Thank you.
I think having a gun as a Christian is a judgment call as Paul talked about. When things are not absolutely clear as to what might be a sin we need to use our best judgment. For some Christians it might be wrong for others it is not. Cannot really use the Old testament for this as we are no longer in that covenant. Per his example, its not the meat that is sinful because it was sacrificed to false gods. Its what you are really doing with it.
Why is it that on this topic there seems to be no mention of the Old Testament. It is replete with the right to defend yourself. Its the whole Bible not just the New Testament. Right down to changing the 10 commandments to read thou shall not kill instead of murder big difference in the 2 words. As a Vietnam vet until I got the difference was sure I was going to hell.
With the War Against Americans in the White House , we need multiple guns to make sure the third and fourth shot gets the job done . Treasury secretary makes a good target.
@@Garrett31151 Exactly. Murder is not the same as killing. The Bible commands us to " kill and eat" animals. So it could never be " you shall not kill...period"
Agree with both the additional post just going to add in Genesis it clearly states if a man kills another man, he shall be killed by man. Society continues to get worse as prophecy foretold due to the fact we as men now expect God to come from heaven to do what He has already instructed us to do. People who believe the death penalty is wrong believe they are being more spiritual by turning the other cheek, however they are ignoring many different scriptures by allowing murders to live so we have blood on our hands due to the murdered victims blood not being avenged. Not that our society cares it has the blood of millions of innocent children on it's hands sacrificed to the god of pleasure at the altar of convenience.
Why would Jesus need his disciples to buy the word of GOD? Sell their cloaks to buy the word lol, also he didn't say if you live by the sword it's sinful, and Christ would have used force if he didn't need to fulfill the prophecy, also they needed protection from persecution when he leaves

IF GOVERNMENT BECOMES EVIL TO GOOD WORKS THEN "he"(GOD'S people) SHALL BEAR THE SWORD (not in vain) AGAINST THOSE WHO PRACTICE EVIL (like trying to take our guns away under a martial law plan). THE MILITIA IS THAT SWORD. OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO TRAIN WITH BATTLE GEAR TO ENGAGE A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER. YOU SIR DON'T LOOK LIKE YOU ARE READY FOR SUCH ENDEAVORS OF PLANNING. YOU SEND THE WRONG MESSAGE TO GOD'S PEOPLE ABOUT ............ ...........ROMANS 13.........
use the weapon to defend yourself and family...unless you are being persecuted for being a christian and then you yield to that which follows... turn the other cheek and stand for God for his kingdom is not of this world ...is that what you are saying?
Jesus didn't need to when he spoke even the wind and rain listened and obeyed. Also when a crowd went to take Him and I throw Him over a cliff before His time He simply turned and walked threw them without them laying a hand on Him. If you believe you have this power or you can stomach injustice being done to your loved ones then by all means do what you feel. However, God said that anyone who doesn't take care of his own is worse than an infidel. If there is nothing you can do than so be it but to make it so you can't card for them isn't God's doing but yours
Folks are so mislead..when it says turn the other cheek ..ITS ONLY TO A BROTHER..IN CHRIST ..HE WAS A RIGHTIOUS MAN AND THE PERFECT SAVIOR.LET ALONE WARNED USE WELL IN ADVANCE..FOLKS GET A STRINGS CONCORDANCE AND READ THE BIBLE..ASK FOR HIM TO OPEN YOUR EYES N EARS ..ITS THE 1st STEP TO UNDERSTANDING
It's been well over 100 years and what Antonio López de Santa Anna said to people like Martin Farrell still rings true: "...A hundred years to come my people will not be fit for liberty. They do not know what it is, unenlightened as they are, a despotism is the proper government for them..." The best Martin Farrell can hope for is a kind despot, that will pat him on the head and take care of him while Martin does his despot's bidding on YT.
You cant' sell your coat and buy the Word of God. He clearly DID want disciples be able to defend each other. The "live by the sword and die by the sword" was referring to CRIMINALS, not just ANYONE who uses a weapon. That "2 sword were enough" was to fulfill the Old Testament. There was NOTHING about NOT all being armed. Some are and will be better at it than others, but the "2 is enough" is unrelated...

Please pray for the Timoteo family please, a coyote ate our cat😢 and we lost our moble home. God bless UA-cam friends.
Jesus sent them in two's...
@@dukeman7595 - I remembered that after I posted 🙁. Still, I don't think it figures out as two for 12 disciples.
It takes two swords one for spiritual battles one for physical danger! My personal opinion King James V for my spiritual protection and .44 for physical attackers
This is an awesome episode. Thanks.
The Armor of God shall be my first & best asset. My sword shall guard from whom have refused God's Armor.
Interesting theory.

Great teachings! What pistol are you firing that doubles as a flamethrower? Good day and god bless.
* Hey brother. Consider this:
David had a primitive gun which he used against Goliath.
How bout a couple of "swords"? How many "swords" is too many?
What?!?! I like options.
Need options short range self defense long range hunting so you don't go hungry and if you get enough you can feed your neighbor ad well
He tells Jesus they have two swords, and Jesus says that is enough.
Thanks Pastor, very interesting word. Somewhat confused because as Christians word says protect our loved ones but not to engage in battle as well armed militia? As stated in 2nd amendment of constitution? Is one of the world ideology? The other by word of God? 😊❤Rob.
Do unto others as others would do unto you😳
Amen.
Nice video sir.
Very good perspective. Thank you for that.
Strong-headed pacifists need to be left to themselves. They can learn the hard way.
Do a video on god and dogs.
did Peter cut the savant's ear off with a dagger?
P.S.
I do carry a five shot revolver, but I don't believe the Bible is specific about what is the best tool for defending my family and I.....only that I do so.
yes, but a subject study and taking verses out of context are 2 very different things.
dagger, its interesting as PSA is releasing a pistol called Dagger.
Luke 22:36 in my opinion is valid.
The sword coming out of his mouth is the same thing that comes out of the Ark, Gentile...
Unfortunately I can't have a gun
try reading What God Tells You to Do People
1 Timothy 5:8, KJV: "But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel."
35Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you out without purse or bag or sandals, did you lack anything?” “Nothing,” they answered.
The only problem is, the Democrats
don't BELIEVE IN JESUS.

I would love to hear your thoughts plz
With the War Against Americans in the White House , we need multiple guns to make sure the third and fourth shot gets the job done . Treasury secretary makes a good target.
Its very hard to do but we must keep Our opinion and Our Interpretation out of the picture. They mean nothing. The word of God is all that matters..
I agree ,but what about tho shall not kill. It says clearly says THO SHALL NOT KILL( PERIOD) , it doesn't say tho shall kill to defend . Just saying.
The English version of this commandment you are citing is incorrect. The original word in Hebrew, the language of the Jewish Bible, says MURDER.
GOD'S PEOPLE ARE TO BE STEWARDS TO GOVERNMENT. WE HAVE ENAILIENABLE RIGHTS GIVEN TO US BY GOD IN THE BILL OF RIGHTS. YOU SIR DON'T LOOK LIKE YOU ARE READY FOR SUCH ENDEAVORS OF PLANNING. use the weapon to defend yourself and family...unless you are being persecuted for being a christian and then you yield to that which follows... turn the other cheek and stand for God for his kingdom is not of this world ...is that what you are saying?
Did Jesus ever carry a weapon? WWJD!
