- The M2 Pro is Apple's latest and most powerful refresh of their popular entry level Mac, following the BYODKM philosophy. Let's see what's in the box and pit it against its M1 predecessor from 2020.
I think Apple does a fantastic job pricing their base model devices. They fit most people fine. It becomes increasingly more painful adding each upgrade until you get to the next level base model. It’s diabolical.
bonjour!Wow. you did excellent uploading! I'll be back- :))
Interesting how these guys that have the m2 Mac pro advise to not upgrade.
I have heard/seen people complaining about the m1 mini not connecting to 49in monitors with correct resolutions, is that now fixed with either the m2 or m2 pro?
You need a proper USB-C (not thunderbolt!) to displayport adapter and it should work. With HDMI it's a pain in the ass, because resolution support is somewhat limited.
Thank you. This is the model I am looking forward to get. Me personally need to have 2 monitors, 5K and 4K, with thunderbolts so the M1 model or M2 wouldn't cut it. This is the spec I have been waiting for. I think for the value, this is the best bang for the bucks in the current Mac lineup.
Even the base spec M2 Pro makes a lot of sense, value wise, yes. The 4 TB4/USB4 ports are super useful for connectivity and will comfortably run dual Pro Display XDR + an 8K60 TV through HDMI 2.1.
The Mac Studio M1 Max with 24 GPU and 32 GB Ram cost the same like the m2 pro but it has 85 FPS in this Benchmark.. for me it is useless to buy a M2 Pro
M1 Max Studio in Europe is €1000 more. Not worth it over the M2 Pro if you own neither.
@@nelizmastr What @FujiXH1 meant was that if you upgrade the M2 Pro Mini to 32GB RAM with 12-core CPU (8P+4E), to bring it as close to the M1 Studio base model as possible, that the M2 Pro (in Germany) is actually more expensive at €2.354 versus €2.299 for the M1 Studio. If you add the 10GbE interface to the M2 Pro (which the M1 Studio has by default) it adds another €115.
The M2 Pro at this specification level has questionable value, unless you really need to faster CPU performance or HDMI 2.1. The Mac Studio may be well updated to M2 Max in the next few months, after which the M2 Pro will no advantage other than a smaller size.
How much ram and SSD on pro?
16GB/512GB is default, anything higher is available at a premium. Max 8TB SSD and 32GB RAM.
I’m confused..is the m2 pro the base model?
There is an M2 model and an M2 Pro model, both have base and CTO spec.
I already asked below few videos but with no response :) Can you tell that the fan in M2 Pro works like in M1 (only on load), or like in Studio (all the time)?
It runs all the time
@@nelizmastr wow, I didn't know how important it became to me until I switched from mini m1 to studio. Silence is king :)
My Mac is in a room that always has some background noise, so it’s of no importance to me, but if you’re sensitive to it, it makes sense to want a system that turns the fan off 👍
Awesome! Thanks for doing this. I am grabbing mine soon in few hours.
No worries! Thanks for watching 😁
which spec mac mini m2 did you go for?
Base model M2 Pro, so 10/16 core, 512 SSD 16 GB RAM.
How much ram and ssd
He said 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD (base model)
Did you see that now with the M2 Pro/Max chips, even the 512GB does not have full performance? It is twice as fast as the 256GB in the M2 regular, but the 1TB and higher storage M2 Pros have 4 nand chips (the new Pro models 512GB is limited to only 2) and they get 5GB reads and 6GB writes. The last gen 512GB M1 Pro machines did have 4 nand chips rather than 2, and get about 5GB/s reads and writes.

@@moogs Sometimes when I post links YT blocks the comments. But there are recent articles about it today on AppleInsider (Mac mini) and 9to5 Mac (14" MBP, including benchmarks). I will try to post the links in separate comment in case they work. Otherwise, go to those sites manually and you should be able to find the articles.
Yes I have found that out too. You have to buy twice the storage as before to get the same speed. 256GB M2 is 1500MB/s, 256GB M1/512GB M2 is 3000MB/s, 1TB M2/512GB M1 is about 6000MB/s, then above that there are diminishing returns.
thanks for this. I am going from 2018 Intel i7 so this will be great but I was not sure about which drive. Sounds like 1TB would be best but then I am approaching Mac Studio price and not having front SD and TB slots nor the faster network connection. Actually it would be $100 more if I add that option of 1TB and faster network. Your post was helpful
@@shawnwright240 great! Do note that unless you get the ultra, the m2 pro is quite a bit faster CPU than M1 Max. Might be worth waiting for m2 studio. If you are mostly GPU bound, then makes sense to get m1 studio. But m2 was a big boost to GPU, so eventual M2 Studio will get a bit upgrade to graphics too.
Very nice little comparison!
Could you please make the Statement about the Noise Ratios while cooling in normal use and while the benchmarks please?
Sorry for my bad English and greetings from Germany!
Thank you!
There was no noticeable difference in noise between the m1 and m2 pro. The M2 Pro after a long Heaven loop did put out more heat, but I couldn’t fit an accurate temperature reading in this video. That’s something I’d like to do a separate video on in the future as a more in depth review once I’ve used it for a while.
@@nelizmastr I Just saw Luke Miani´s teardown... the cooling ist bigger in the M2Pro Mini...
Thank you for your answer! ;-)
Good to know :)
