My First LOVEBITES Analysis! "Holy War" finally gracing my ears!

- I have heard so much about Lovebites and how they've shaken the Japanese metal world over the last few years. Now, looking at "Holy War" I immediately thought this was a cover of Megadeth's song from the 80s, but now that I know it's an original I was instantly convinced. . . and I'm so glad I took this chance!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Lovebites for the first time, performing "Holy War”.

WTF????? This was my first time hearing Lovebites. I can't believe what I just saw!!! Incredible!!!
Enjoy discovering their music! They have about 60 songs, many even better than „Holy War“ imo. Since they have recorded four of their concerts on DVD/ Blu-ray for most of the songs live versions are available 🐺🤘🏼🎸🥁🎤🎹
welcome to the wolfpack of Lovebites fans my friend. They have many more mind blowing songs.
🤘🤘LOVEbites
Agreed
First of many 😁😁
The purity of Asami’s vocal tone, her excitement and grace in performance, and her subtle ability as a lyricist and music composer are what make her a truly special artist 🤘🐺🤘
Wow, my jaw is on the floor! A special mention for the drummer - how the hell did she do that and with such precision! Amazing!
She does that relentlessly for the full 2 hours show... nick name "little BIG engine". One of the best drummers in the world, a 4' 9" with a big drum set. Precise and enduring.
And fast! How could I forget that? She was working on optimizing her movements, so she doesn't do any useless movements. Very effective!
One of the best drummers in metal today. Absolutely relentless!
In this song by Lovebites (audio only) Haruna's drumming is even more impressive: ua-cam.com/video/qec5cQ3tu4s/v-deo.html
@@ChadTheDragonLordJust listened to the song and holy shit she's even faster! Thanks for the link.
A bit of history.
There was this promising band called DestRose that around 2011-12 got a new roster with very young girls 19-20 years old. Among them there was a tiny cute drummer called _haruna_ and a wild metalhead bassist called _miho._ Shortly after _haruna_ got some personal stuff going on and left music to focus on real life. Not much time later _miho_ also left with the idea to make a new band, one that did sound like those groups from the 80s she loved. She didn't know a better drummer than _haruna,_ so in 2016 she convinced this awesome drummer she knew from her old band to come back to music, and also added to the project two guitar players that had been around the metal scene in Tokyo but never in big bands, _miyako_ and _midori._
But they missed a singer.
The story of asami is somewhere else. She studied classical music and ballet since she was 8, spent two years in New York doing ballet, and for some time she was singing RnB and soul in some underground jazz-bars in Tokyo. Later she entered into contact with some pop groups doing backing vocals in studio, and then a couple big j-rock bands contacted her to do support vocals in some sections of their songs. A bit lost on her career, that made her think she might try luck in rock instead, and sent a demo tape to several labels. In 2016. At the same time the other 4 girls were looking for a singer. Once _miho_ crossed her tape she thought her voice could sound like Bruce's or Dio's if done properly, so they contacted her and interviewed her. They say it was something like "we do heavy metal". "What?". "That music like Metallica". "Who?". But there you have her now, leading the metal stages with enormous presence and femenine power and you can be sure she studied hard what Bruce, Dio, Rob Halford or other giants from that time were doing.
"Shining blade and burning heart
Into the Gates of Hell we march" Always gets me, the best battle cry ever.
That's the line that got me first as well. Great stuff!
👑🤘🏼Maidens Queens of Heavy Metal LOVEBITES 🐺
Mine was "Standing in the name of the gods of heavy metal" 2nd verse ending
Asami is the full meaning of the name of your channel: Charismatic voice!
Lovebites ... the band's huge contribution to this music genre! you can still make a name for yourself in the music world with your own work! Lovebites .. will rank among the legendary bands! 🤘
I am so glad you finally came to react to Lovebites. These women are to me the best metal musicians at the moment. Enjoy the ride. There is so much more to discover here🤘🏽🔥
I feel validated. My all time favorite metal band got the Liz seal of approval. That open mouthed grin, with flashes of tongue, says it all. Kidding aside, these women, along with BandMaid, are great ambassadors for how metal and any rock should be portrayed. That is, with expertise and joy. The prom dresses don't hurt, lol.
I started listening to these beautiful ladies two weeks ago. I'm obsessed with them now.❤
Welcome to the Wolfpack ! 🤘🐺🤘
I've been listening to them for 3 years ,I'm still obsessed . There are approx 60 tracks, not a bad one among them
Ah so sad…you can not come back to the original point….I am one of them, and have never regret it, lol
Love LOVEBITES!
The two guitarists were in perfect sync the whole time... that has always impressed me everytime I have listened to this song.
It is unbelievable. When Japanese people do something, they do it perfectly.
@@maksphoto78 That is very true. There isn't a lot of mediocre. It's perfection or nothing.
these Ladies are frigging awesome, great music, great lyrics, and great performances, live is best, but videos are very good as well.....more please

You'e just entered a whole new metal scene there. Aldious, Band Maid, Nemophila, Hanabi, there's so much talent coming out of Japan right now, it's amazing.
Japan's metal scene has been producing great bands since the 80's lol
@@blaynegreiner9365 Well yea, but it's a whole new scene to her.
Also, that's sorta true for every part of the world, but imho Japan never got the international attention like it did in the past ten years or so. Summer festivals were dominated by US trash metal bands, it was very rare to see a band from Asia on the program. Now they're often the big names on the posters. And to be honest, the old visual kei bands were getting a bit stale imho, these women bring some fresh and exciting sounds.
i love lovebites for there choice of not going the standaard way and dress all black but to dress like ladys and be metal rockers on high heels wonderful and respect for that. and of course not to forget the insane skill of all the ladys yeah!
Never heard this band before, really liked em, very nice/intense musicians nice vocals
Do Lovebites Swansong live with Chopin Intro.
Guaranteed to blow you away.
The great thing about The Charismatic Voice is that even if a particular artist doesn't appeal (not the same as saying they aren't good or technically impressive) her geysering enthusiasm and engaged analysis draws you in (see also: her range of kooky facial expressions. Elizabeth rocks hard!
Classical is right! Miyako the dark haired guitarist 🎸 is a classically trained pianist from age 3!!! She composes and arranges the majority of Lovebites music!!!!
The highest compliment to a metal guitarist is "you play like a five foot tall Japanese girl!"
Couldn't agree more. These girls ROCK! That had to be one of the best instrumental breaks I've ever heard, with two lead guitars handing off and then playing together, and just got even better when the bass also took off, and of course the drums driving it through the entire time.
Asami studied Ballet in her youth, including time in Los Angeles where she improved her English. Due to ballet not having a need for many 4'10" ballerinas she became a singer. She was mainly a R&B, Jazz singer before Lovebites. She actually knew nothing about metal music, but Miho, bass & band founder, recruited her. Being English fluent was important as all of their songs, the lyrics are in English. She is an excellent, powerful singer with full vocal missing in so much metal songs.
Asami is the primary lyricist for the band.
Thank you SOOOO much for introducing me to these Phenomenally talented band, I fricken' LOVE them!
If you’re new to the Japanese rock/metal scene there are dozens of amazing bands:Lovebites, Nemophila, Bridear, Gacharic Spin, Hagane, Hanabie, Fate Gear, Lonsome Blue, PaleNe0, Band Maid, and many more.
Welcome to the Wolfpack
The more you look at it the better it gets...🤘.🤘
@@not-so-great-oldone9780 thank you so much for PaleNe0, they are insane
It's not all about power and thrash here. It is much more...their energy, joy, messages and, of course, the music...it's all here...elements of blues, classic heavy metal and hard rock, glam metal from the eighties. It's worth digging into this group. I suggest A frozen serenade. It's insane how these ladies put this song together
I'm sure you meant to say "thrash", because trash means garbage.
A Frozen Serenade is an S-tier song. Masterpiece
Thanks for the great reaction and analysis!
I'm glad you discovered this powerful band and also the powerful, majestic and perfect singer Asami-san!❤️
Goddesses of Heavy Metal🤘🐺🤘
LOVEBITES is the best in the world!🤘
Second time on this channel that I have been introduced to something amazing!!
Welcome to LOVEBITES 🐺 They have 60 amazing songs, enjoy your journey 😊
Been waiting for this day ❤️
Lovebites is truly a uniquely amazing band. They’re the whole package. An actual show. An experience. Thank you for listening 🙏
Edit: “the crusade” next… or…. “Stand and deliver” (which has a really cute video clip)
I’m so glad you got to experience what the queens of heavy metal have to offer! If you’d like to check out more from them here’s a few more songs that show off Asami and the rest of the band:
- Frozen Serenade (Live from Tokyo with lyrics) - A change of pace from Holy War and a great performance from Asami!
- Swan Song (With Chopin intro from “Five of a Kind” 2020) - This one also includes their guitarist Miyako performing the Chopin Etude that inspired the song. She’s truly a multi-virtuoso!
- Edge of the World (Live from “Five of a Kind”) - One of Asami’s best performances!
- Glory To the World (Official Music Video) - Wickedly Fast, super technical, and with an inspiring message of mental health!
- Judgement Day (Official Music Video) - A song from their latest album and first song released with their new bassist Fami.
Of course, no pressure to do all of these! But if you enjoyed Holy War enough to at least check some of them out, you truly can’t go wrong with any of them!
As always, thanks for the fantastic content. I love watching you break down musical performances and I always feel like I learn something, even if it’s a song I know well. Hope you have a lovely day!
Well said and great selections to continue with the journey of Lovebites!!
I concur ❤
Following the chat during the premiere, it seems there's hope for a reaction to "Swan Song" with the Chopin intro. :)
I mean the Queens are clearly the ones selling out Arenas in Osaka and Tokyo yearly and that would be Baby Metal but sure if you think Queen means barely selling half capacity at Halls makes them better to each there own.
@@bertoneill2488 They must like that gimmick in the East of Babymetal, or cutie metal as I call it Want some chocolate little girl. 😆
Thank you Elisabeth and welcome to the Wolfpack, you've made a lot of metalheads happy today!!! Did you notice that grand piano behind Miyako? That is not decoration, she is playing piano since 3 years old. After 2 years hiatus they have a new album, they are again on the stage with the new bassist, and they are better than ever. 🐺🤘LOVEBITES 🤘🐺
Their new bassist, Fami, reminds me a lot of Tomo-zo from Gacharic Spin, with her enthusiasm and her constant smile. She's having WAY too much fun . 😛

Your channel probably has more reach than their current record label. Looking forward to it.
Really impressed! Will listen to more of them for sure! Vocally, I hear a similarity to Bruce Dickinson too!

No, you're confusing something. This was a Lovebites analysis and not a Hanabie analysis. So the goddesses of metal are yet to come.

That was fun. My 1st look at them. Reminds me of Show-Ya from the 80s w/ Keiko Terada. Good first impression for me. Thanks for starting Friday w/ a bang!
Woohoo! LoveBites at long last.. and it's the song that I heard first, and made me instantly fall in love with them! I know you'll also need to hear 'Swan Song' with the wonderful classical piano playing from Miyaki.
Miyako's been playing piano since she was three. She didn't pick up a guitar until her late teens.
Oh my goodness I am giddy getting to see this! I’ve been listening to this band more or less nonstop since I first got tipped off to them 8 or 9 months ago.
I love the fact that their only gimmick is massive talent. 🤘🏻🎸🤘🏻👍
Happened to catch theae at Bloodstock 2018, never heard of them before then and have been hooked ever since. Great band, they deserve way more exposure than they get. They need to come to the UK again.
Please please please please PLEASE do Swan Song (Chopin intro). Please!!! It's arguably a better showcase of Asami's vocals and it's just an absolutely masterclass of talent from them all, especially Miyako.
Also, I'm sure this will have been mentioned already below, but before Lovebites Asami was an R&B singer.
*edit* Reaction had me in tears. There is something so close to my heart about Lovebites. They're just such an incredibly talented band and I absolutely love watching people discover them for the first time.
Thank you for finally reacting to my favourite band. I was a big Iron Maiden fan, but Lovebites I listen to all the time now.
I am sure you will find out that there is a classical element attached to this group! Miyako is a classical trained pianist complete with degree, writes a lot of their music! Her Chopin Revolutionary etude in this concert is breathtaking as is the accompanied song Swan song!!
A footnote: Asami started out as a R&B singer, backing vocals for a couple of well known groups! There is however at least 4 videos on YT of Asami singing at a club about 10 years ago if you would like to peruse! I absolutely love them!! Great reaction 🤟😎
From what I've read, Midori also played piano and organ from a very early age, but dropped keyboards when she started on guitar.
I cannot stress enough how FREAKING GOOD both of them are at guitar too. Like that’s decades of practice and they rarely mess up. Insane
A reasonable case can be made that they are the best guitar duo in metal today. There may be other duos as good as M&M, but I can't think of a duo who are better.
Miyako the one with the black hair often. she never touched a guitar in her life till she was 18. she learn to play guitar on her own. she started out as a Classical Pianist. been playing the piano since the age of 3.
It's the way their playing works so well together, too. I've been listening to heavy rock for 40 years and it ain't often you hear 2 guitarists work together as seamlessly as Midori and Miyako. Outstanding!
Lovebites' stroke of genius was to look for a singer who had NEVER sang metal before - Asami was a jazz/gospel/R'n B singer before, and usually a backup singer! Being excellent musicians, they heard Asami's warmth, power and incredible range and knew she was the one. An important thing was that she had been a ballerina, so discipline and stamina was no problem.
Unleash the Archers and LOVEBITES! ... You're really getting my hopes up for an amazing show I'd probably travel to see multiple times!!! :-)
I really suggest you their ballad side to see how beautiful Asami's voice :
Epilogue (strongly recomended)
Empty Daydream
Edge Of The World
A Frozen Serenade
She holds that note twice as long in the live version in 2021 at ride for vengeance concert also if you listen Asami sounds like a female Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden
Lovebites had me from the first moment I heard them. The dual lead guitars and the just nonstop power metal barrage when they play live makes my aging heart race.
That first guitar shred blew mind! Great classic metal attack performed to perfection. Followed by fun guitars! Love this.....
Lovebites two guitarists, Midori and Miyako, are phenomenal talents. They play amazing guitar solos and harmonies in every single Lovebites songs. Miyako also shreds the piano as well as she shreds the guitar. You should check out A Frozen Serenade.
@@ChadTheDragonLord Thank you, I will.
Finally :D Now let me use this opportunity to again suggest Swan Song for your next Lovebites reaction, particularly the version with the Chopin Intro - I know you'll love it ;)
Yeah, not just a keyboard but a full piano on stage, so it has to be set up some distance from the band. It's fun to watch Miyako have to run from the piano intro to get into place for her guitar part and then get back at the end for the outro, but it's equally fun to watch the band adjust with one eye on her to allow her to do it. They put on a great show and really seem to work well together. They have a lot of material worth a watch.
This!
Definitely the version of Swan Song with the Chopin Intro. Strangely however, that version doesn't seem to be on their official UA-cam channel. But it is floating around. 🙂
Yes please 🙏
Second that !
I was blown away by this band the first time I heard them, INSANELY TALENTED.
I found this song from the comments on this channel a couple of months ago and have been blown away. You can really tell Elizabeth was too. She can appreciate all music but I think she now has a crush on Asami. Never heard Elizabeth quite that in awe of another singer before
welcome to the wolfpack, Eric. Lovebites will blow you away, song after song.
A UA-camr mentioned it one livestream. Looked them up, and got into them.
WolfPack, Pedal Heads and Maidiacs!!! Japan is where its at for Rock and Metal. Glad you reacted to Lovebites.
I know you don't revisit bands often, but I hope you get addicted to Lovebites and cover songs like Swan Song and Frozen Serenade. Just insanely talented musicians.
Dear Elizabeth, finally!! Your reaction to Lovebites was long overdue!!! This is an incredible metal band, with talented musicians and with Asami: she is a power-house, with a lot of vocal stamina and one of the best lead-singer & front-women in the Metal scene these days!!
I enjoyed your great analysis and pure expression of joy to this amazing song and plays. Though we have just come to this breathtaking point. Several more things. The lead vocal Asami writes lyrics and also composes for this band. The black hair guitarist Miyako is a classic pianist and plays full scale Chopin as an intro of their metal. She has composed a lot of Lovebites songs. Ah both of them are mothers of cute girls. So definitely super moms!
Wow
What an unbelievably badass band I have never heard of until just know.
Welcome to the Wolfpack, you have a long journey ahead of you! Enjoy the current best metalband in the world! 🐺🤘LOVEBITES🤘🐺

Thanks
So glad Elizabeth is finally getting to this band. They really do merit it. Each of the members is so strong and they really bring a powerful sound, with a hopeful, fun atmosphere. One fun thing that is a little hard to catch when they are on stage is that all the members (at this point) are around 5 feet tall. You'd never guess it, because on stage, they play like giants. Watch their drummer Haruna for evidence of that, she's a real powerhouse.
👑🤘🏼Maidens Queens of Heavy Metal LOVEBITES 🐺
Asami's vocal career started off as a backing singer for pop/rock bands like VAMPS and UVERworld (the earliest video I've seen of Asami is her singing for UVERworld at Budokan on Christmas 2011) and hip hop artists AK-69 and, as of this writing, just finished up a tour singing backup for solo artist Sayaka Yamamoto. Asami also had a few small shows as a solo artist during her career, but ultimately she decided that she wasn't going anywhere.
Wanting to do something different, Asami recorded a rock demo of herself singing "Love Bites (So Do I)" by Halestorm, and that demo found its way to Miho, the bass guitarist in this video. Asami was the last of the original five ladies to join; Miho and drummer Haruna were in the band Destrose together, and they knew guitarists Midori (blonde) and Miyako (brunette) from the Japanese rock/metal festival scene. The four instrumentalists were all fresh out of failed bands but decided to make music together since they were all free. Once they got Asami, they were complete! They decided to name themselves after the song that they first played together and have since released four albums, three EPs, one single, and seven (soon to be eight) live releases in one form or another.
Sadly and surprisingly, Miho left the band in August of 2021, but the new bass guitarist, Fami, has healed the sorrow in the hearts of the fans and rejuvenated the band.
Very well said! 🐺
VAMPS is nowhere near pop lol
@@marquislexil Maybe one day I’ll care what Vamps is and isn’t, but today is not that day.

Oh yeah, Elizabeth definitely has a new favorite band now!
I am so glad, that you finally found them and that you like them. thank you so much for your great reaction/analysis and especially for putting the focus on asamis great performance. stick with them, the lovebites rabbit hole is very rewarding. in their backcatalogue of now around 70 songs you won´t find a single weak, stale or mediocre one. I love how they can blend classical motives (guitarist miyako is a pro level classical piano player, also their main composer) and metal. "swan song" with the chopin intro shows that.
So happy you are doing Lovebites, my favorite band! Asami was previously an R&B singer before metal. This is the most popular of their songs on UA-cam.
Elizabeth, I think you would enjoy their song Swan Song which has a piano Chopin intro played by Miyako who has played piano since age 3.
The Wolfpack (Lovebite fans) are pleased
I fully second the recommendation of "Swan Song" plus the Chopin intro which was what I suggested in my comment to the last Iron Maiden reaction, because it also showcases Miyako's piano skills. Therefore, I hope that this first reaction to Lovebites won't be the last one.

I had to do a double take when I saw this video come up in my feed. Thank you so much Elizabeth for your reaction to Lovebites. I only discovered them by accident here on UA-cam on another reaction channel two years ago. Asami is an incredible vocalist for sure. 🙂
Asami's vocals are always powerful and remind me of Deep Purple's Ian Gillan in their sound. The musical skills of this band are truly outstanding and of the highest level. The guitarist on the right plays a piano beautifully too as well as killing it on guitar.
thanks for spreading Lovebites \m/
Would be criminal not to do any more Lovebites. I suggest Edge of the World.
Yes..she needs do more lovebites reactions...i suggest empty daydream...
Wagakki Band was a one and done so far, but she’s analyzed Babymetal a few times, so there’s hope.
Swan
I concur🙏
Great band. Love Asami's vocal on Frozen Serenade.
yes. "a frozen serenade" is an Uber-masterpiece, especially the live performance.
I just discovered this band about 3 days ago before seeing your video. As a child of 80s metal, I'm getting major Iron Maiden/Judas Priest/Queensryche vibes from this band. The guitar solos on just about every song are insane. It's some of the best guitar solos I've heard in decades. Plus major props to the singer who isn't singing in her native tongue.
Welcome to the Wolfpack, you have a long journey ahead of you! Enjoy the current best metalband in the world! 🐺🤘LOVEBITES🤘🐺
I'm actually jealous when I hear of a person discovering LOVEBITES for the first time, as I know what an amazing journey they have in front of them.
I know this is an older comment, but if you haven't seen it, they do a great cover of Judas Priest's Painkiller.
I see the correlation between Love Bites and Unleash The Archers. Musically, power and great technique combined. Both bands have incredible vocalists. I would go if they toured together.
As you know a lot of us have been hoping you would get to Lovebites. Thank you for checking them out. Regarding endurance: They do this for two hours in their concerts, at this intensity, and in fact in their last recorded concert ("Heavy Metal Never Dies") they actually ended the set with Holy War. Asami held the last note in that one for some 13 seconds by my count. And then they did an encore.
Lovebites is fantastic, and Asami is a great vocal!
Thank you so much for the wonderful words and support for Lovebites and especially Asami. I cried when you said that in some parts her vocals remind me of Dio. For me Dio is the King! Asami and Lovebites forever! Thank you so much again for this fabulous video!!!
Greetings from Japan.
Very good reaction, your love for music just shines through, that makes me think you will really enjoy another one of LOVEBITES videos, Swan Song with the Chopin Intro.
Damn! Amazing band capability , this is a live show, not studio !! It is almost miracle one band is equipped with this world top notch musicians in every part. I love Asami’s confidence, smile and unusual voice and breath control in her singing. Please do this more for Lovebites live songs.
Thank you for covering Lovebites i suggested them several months asking you to critique this awesome band
must... have... Swan Song, with guitar/piano virtuoso Miyako's "Chopin Etude" prelude!
Thanks you so much for introducing me to Lovebits, they remind me a lot of one of my favorite bands Dragonforce. Much love!
They already toured with them in the UK in 2019. Check out Miyako and Midori performing "Farming Simulator" with Dragonforce as well as the entire band accompanying Dragonforce doing a cover of "My Heart Will Go On" - highly entertaining performances!

Lovebites is in my top 3 most fav bands list. their songs 'under the red sky' and 'edge of the world' are absolutely epic. these girls are talented, skilled and, unfortunetly, underrated :( Asami is fantastic vocalist with powerful metal voice, Miyako is awesome guitarist and pianist and Midori, she is not only skilled guitarist, she is also pro bodybuilder.
