In the manga the reason Bulma is embarrassed of her name is it because her name means “Bloomers” like lady’s undergarments. Considering her father is Dr. “Briefs” and her son is “Trunks”, you can understand the name theme.
I’m glad that you guys are reacting to OG Dragonball! The voice actor that is voicing Kid Goku is Stephanie Nadonly who voiced Kid Gohan in Dragonball Z and GT Kid Goku in Dragonball GT.
She’s so perfect as a voice actors for both characters!!

Also: Madison mentioned the narrator. Brice Armstrong, the narrator for OGDB also voiced Captain Ginyu in the remastered version of DBZ. He sadly passed away in 2020. RIP 🙏

I was actually on the same boat as you two when it came to watching OG Dragon Ball after Super. Since I grew up in the era when DBZ was airing on tv, I didn’t know there was more to it with the series that came before it. I was able to watch and finish the entire OG series in the most recent years and am relieved that I’ve caught up on the lore of Dragon Ball.
Glad you enjoyed the VERY 1st episode of Dragon Ball media. Also, while he may be short in this show, Goku is actually 12 years old at the start of the series and Bulma is surprisingly 17.
It will be an amazing journey, this series is second only to z, og db it's incredible in character development and storyline
I cant wait until they see the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament and the Demon King Piccolo arcs because those who are my favorite in Dragon ball
Even though I wholeheartedly believe you guys should have started here (and everyone else for that matter), I’m SO GLAD you guys and many others are watching OG Dragonball. Knowing everyone’s backstory makes DBZ sooo much better. And honestly, this show may not have the peaks of DBZ, but I feel like it’s a much more fun watch. This show is unfathomably overlooked. OG Dragonball was dubbed by Funimation AFTER DBZ so it has many of the same voice actors. GT was also dubbed around the same time so yes, kid Goku, Gohan and GT Goku are all the same voice actor.

Stephanie Nadolny was the voice of Kid Goku, Kid Gohan, and GT Kid Goku. Due to how and when it everything was dubbed in America, all of her work was done between 1999 and 05/06.
She started as Kid Gohan in 99, then when Dragon Ball was completely dubbed starting in '01 she was Kid Goku. GT was dubbed around '03-'04 I think, and she reprised her young Goku role. She along with Tiffany Vollmer (Bulma) were pretty much blacklisted later and replaced with people in the Funi clique. She has stated that she was dating someone at Funi who she broke up with who then started airing dirty laundry about her from when she was having a tough time. Yeah, Funimation was kind of a shitty company.

@agerard6297 I think so but we're also talking about a company that chose to continue working with charged pedophile Illich Guardiola before charges were dropped, and a company that swept Damon Mills' questionable behavior, which he admitted to, under the rug. Then there's Vic Mignogna, who moved to Dallas to be a director for them then immediately gets cancelled and blacklisted over hearsay and false allegations, then the entire scummy industry follows suit and blacklists him. You even have Chuck Huber stating in a legal affidavit that Sabat runs a casting couch and Funimation was ruled by a mean girls clique mentality, and guess what, I think his work with them ended with 17 and the Tournament of Power. Tiffany Vollmer has mentioned a possible blacklist in at least two interviews, along with not being in their clique and them possibly wanting to give their friends work. She asked for money for a plain trip to record for Kai during a tough time and gets unceremoniously replaced with one of the clique buddies and gets ghosted by the company. A DUI or two should have been the least of their worries.
That is definitely Stephanie Nadolny she is the voice of Kid Goku, Gohan, ,GT Kid Goku, East Kai, and baby Trunks and i will add she is so nice and down to earth in person 🙏🏻

Original Dragon Ball is such a fun watch. The adventure, the villains, the comedy, the tournaments, the characters. everything about this show is awesome. Even my girlfriend who isn't into Anime really enjoyed watching Dragon Ball with me

It's hilarious how that phrase became such a meme LOL! "What do I care about seeing your dirty old fanny?" It's great to see others watch the original DB for the first time. That's why I thought it was interesting when I first saw Gohan walking in the woods in DBZ. He was so helpless compared to Goku at that age. It was a fantastic parallel to start DBZ with.

I watched the first couple of sagas when I was about 10. The episodes were right here on UA-cam.
Bruh I remember those days. I was 12 years old binge watching this and all of Dragon Ball Z on UA-cam.
The tournament arcs of Dragon Ball are the best tournament arcs ever made in anime.
Dragon Ball is way more lighthearted comedy adventure then straight action, but the action is still great action regardless. I especially love the world building.

Pretty good trick with the firewood. The only other guy I've seen do anything like that is Popeye, who can punch a tree and when it comes down it stacks into a log cabin.

Now I ask you, which would you rather watch: this, or Gotenks fighting Majin Buu? Original DB is fun, charming, and engaging. DBZ eventually turned into nothing but protracted fight scenes where they were absolutely DARING me to care about what was going on.
Sometimes people complain about "filler" episodes of DBZ, where Goku and Piccolo are driving cars, or The Great Saiyaman is dealing with dinosaur problems or whatever. Me, I love the "filler" episodes; they're the best part. So much of original DB would count as "filler" by a lot of standards, but it's just too much fun.
Fun fact the narrator Brice Armstrong voiced Lord Slug and Captain Ginyu. He is personally my favorite narrator from the Dragon Ball series

The voice actors are actually a bit older here than they were in Z since Funimation didn't start dubbing OG Dragon Ball until after they finished the Cell saga.
OG Dragon Ball is fantastic! A lot of the comedy from Dragon Ball Super reminds me so much of OG Dragon Ball.

Why do people forget when goku actually kissed chi chi in the scene when he woke up from his heart virus. He was in the room with chi chi and master roshi and they literally kissed before he instant transmission during cell saga.

I lov og Dragon Ball! I'm also re-watching again as a homage to Toriyama. Is crazy to think everything started here, with bulma & goku almost killing each other.
Also, now you know why Goku seems dumb to casuals... Goku was not raised in a society nor he had any proper education (until master roshi gave him some basics at least). All he knows is fighting, and I hate it when people say he's dumb but fail to mention that he's such a genius in combat.
It's the same voice actor for kid Goku between the original dragon ball and dragon ball gt. They also provided the original english dub voice for kid/teen Gohan.

I haven’t seen the start of dragon ball in so long. This episode 1 was fun
While I like the arcs with King Piccolo and Piccolo Jr, gonna be honest my favorite arc was with Tien.
Also Kid Goku and Kid Gohan in Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and GT was the same voice actor. It changed in Dragon Ball Z Kai.
I recommend if you’re going to watch Dragon Ball Z again, try out Dragon Ball Z Kai. It’s more faithful to the manga.

Goku is actually between 12-14 here not 5. Saiyans are in their prime until they're 80, but then start aging rapidly. Saiyans unlike humans retain their youth for quite some time, this is of those examples as seen between Bulma and Goku here. They’re both around the same age but Goku’s Saiyan genes make him appear much younger.

Are you watching Subbed or Dubbed version? I'm currently watching the Subbed version, the dialog is so much funnier and none of the show seems to be edited out. I know subbed doesn't translate as well for a reaction but the way they altered the dialog in the dubbed is good, just not as good.
Either way, looking forward to seeing both of your reactions!

I think he was about 12 in this era. Saiyans stay quite small for a long time till they hit their growth spurt, and then they get really tall (except for vegeta that is).

Dragon Ball is much older than Z, but it wasnt dubbed until the early 2000s. It just wasn’t as popular as Dragon Ball Z back in the day. Even DBZ wasn’t dubbed until the late 90s, nearly ten years after its Japanese release.
