I have this and the black and yellow one and ordered the limited carbon fiber scales and s35vn steel blade.

Great video. Ive been trying to find every reason to not get a Vision FG in Damascus so when i saw the blemish on the blade from 1 cardboard box i felt pretty good. Then the cut test results came and im back to square 1 😅

I’ve been carrying the demascus version as an EDC for the last month. I use it daily at work for boxes mostly. Ot does scratch/scuff up pretty easily. I don’t mind as I don’t use mine as a show piece. Had to upgrade the clip after it bent. Got a Kiezer titanium clip. All in all happy with the purchase.

Yep, as long as you're not overly concerned about the appearance, I think the extra performance is worth the relatively small price bump.

definitely useful for me. more the review in this case because i am looking at the FG but the Nitro-V version.
Using the Baby Banter I found that I really like Nitro-V for a beater knife. I dropped it to 12-13 dps and it can be easily sharpened just with a few passes on a strop. I have yet to test how stable it is a lower edge angles. I sharpened 12C27 at 8 dps and for controlled cuts it does ok. If Nitro-V does the same or a bit better I would be happy with it.

I have the black micarta scales version of this knife. The Damascus steel on mine looks very different from yours as well. I have maybe half the folds as you do. Been carrying for a week now and use it daily. Still hair shaving sharp.

It looks like Civivi changed their Damascus in recent runs. Maybe I wasn't the only one complaining about the durability of the finish.

I have one at the machine shop now, they are doing a pmi test on it for me and gonna poke it for hardness. I'm really curious as to what the core is. Kinda betting on 9cr as in Two cut test between a paraxis and the San Mai fg the test was called within 2% on test one and 3% on test two.

Cool, I'd love to know what they find. I originally thought it was 9cr because that's what Civivi has used on their regular Damascus.

I'd be interested in hearing what you find out also. Make sure and update us.

Civivi states "Damascus is compound by 10Cr15CoMov in core with 316 and 5Cr15Mov in layers" for this knife.

Tired of people on UA-cam who say something that is of public interest and then, in almost 100% of cases, don't come back to update it. I knew this would be another one of those cases.

I purchased this same knife... Looks cool and is fun to open and close with a very satisfying click and seemingly strong lock but the blade steel is... trash trash trash it came hair popping sharp and after making just 1 pass through notebook paper (1 sheet) it could no longer cut any hair and needed stropping to get the edge keen again which after a few passses it was back to being sharp and after that i just put it in my nightstand and use my chinese demko 20.5 clone for around the house and as an extra edc to compliment a nicer piece

Speaking on the Vision FG and Amirite damascus, its underwhelming overall, but for a "budget damascus" im not really mad. Its really All Show and Low Go. 💯

It's not just exposure to the air. Steel wants to return to it's shape, so after stropping it often becomes duller just by sitting there a while.

    • @monkpato
      @monkpato 6 місяців тому +1

If you are going to test it, try stropping and then putting it in oil to see whether it's oxidation or not

    • @BladeLabMiami

      That had occurred to me.

That's not at all true, steel doesn't have a memory like that. It's elastic but it returns immediately to it's shape except were it had yielded. There is creep, which will have steel change shape over time, but it is a response to continuous strain and doesn't apply here.
An edge can dull on its own, but it is microscopic corrosion on the edge apex that will do it and it shouldn't be appreciable in a stainless steel.
