As the engine heats up, the valve clearance gets smaller, which holds the exhaust valve from closing completely. Check each valve at TDC on the compression stroke for the proper clearance. Basically you should be able to wiggle the rocker if there's clearance. If not, that is your problem. Valve won't completely close, so no compression. Problem gets worse as it get hot and metal expands. No compression, won't run.

If you have fuel going into your air cleaner box you have a float that is getting stuck and letting fuel run back up into the air cleaner box which then turns and runs into the motor and it hydro locks. If you had the carbs cleaned recently then one of your Tang's got pushed in which is letting the fuel leak

On that suzuki the fuel petcock is vacuum operated it is bad and running gas check the oil for gas it will wash the bearings thats why the air box is full of gas

I know its an old video but this might help someone. You have 2 issues. Your float is stuck open and your petcock needs to be rebuilt. The petcock is leaking and filling your float bowl. To check, pull the line going to the side of your petcock with the valve in the on position. If fuel keeps dripping fromthe petcock, it needs rebuilding.

Check your ignition coils....on a Kat they are mounted on the top of the valve cover....electronic parts don't like heat and act up when heated...if it was seriously flooded it wouldn't crank that nicely....I have had gas fill a cylinder on my katana once due to bad float needles...and after it cleared out the raw fuel it still started and ran ok...I'm betting it's your ignition system

OK HERE EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON WITH YOUR BYKE.
1- THE CHAMBER OF THE FUELS INSIDE THE CARBORATORS ARE OVERFILLED WITH GAS DUE TO THE FACT THE PUMPS AND FLOATERS ARE NOT SET CORRECTLY, THE CARBORATOR FLOADS THE FUEL TO THE AIR FILTER WHICH IS NOT GOOD AT ALL. WHEN THIS HAPPENS WITH ME I JUST TURN TO RES ND WAIT ALITTLE BIT THEN TRY TO TURN IT ON . BELLOW LINK WILL EXPLAIN WHAT EXACTLY YOU NEED.
    ua-cam.com/video/g6y32Gw5HK4/v-deo.html
    2. I SUGGEST YOU GO BACK TO THE MECHANIC TO TUNE THE AMMOUNT OF FUEL SHOULD BE GOING INSIDE CARBORATOR CHAMBER AND W\ALL YOUR PROBLEMS WILL BE DONE.
PS. I NOTEST THAT YOU ARE CLOSING THE BLACK PIPE THAT SHOULD NOT BE BLOCKED CUZ IF THERE IS FLOAD OF FUEL IN AIR FILTER THAT PIPE WILL LET IT OUT TO THE GROUND.

Hi, It could be a fault with your petcock. In the On position, it requires a vacuum to allow fuel to flow to the carbs. If you have a leak in the tube from Carb 4, then you wont' get the vacuum, and the the fuel wont flow. Turn the petcock to Pri. That bypasses the petcock vacuum valve and will allow the float bowls to fill with fuel. Try that first.
It could be lots of things, so can work through each of them.
Also, try using some choke, as this allows fuel into the carbs through a separate route from the pilot jets.
My guess is your pilot jets are blocked. Working through different things, we can start to narrow the issue.
Also, if you're on Facebook, there's a group called GSXF Owners Club. Lots of good advice there.

Thanks!! So - this was a while back... we actually solved the issue.. it was all related to the carbs.. I only had the carbs cleaned, but never rebuilt.. so got a carb kit.. took it to the shop.. had them rebuilt.. worked perfectly.. One thing I learned about these Katanas is that they are extremely cold natured.. so.. you gotta let it warm up a lot before it works properly..

I have a 99 Katana with similar issues and am working on it now. Maybe I'll post a video if I solve it. Mine was sitting for five years so I
    -replaced battery
    -added gas
    -changed oil
    -checked drainage lines
-sprayed carb cleaner direct into carbs while running
It would run very roughly with starter fluid but would die fast. Turned out it was running on three cylinders because one spark plug wasn't connected. It ran louder but still had issues with four cylinders. Turns out there was a few maybe 1/4 cup of water and a lot of rust in the tank.
-drained tank, added fresh gas and some Seafoam
    -put in new fuel filter
-cleaned the carbs including a small wire, I was surprised how clean the carbs already were. I hope I cleaned everything and noticed all jets/screws were tightened all the way which I figure is stock
NOw takes a few cranks to start or it starts up when a little warm and half choke. After five minutes on idle the RPMs go way up so I take off the choke. Runs another five minutes then just dies and I can smell gas flooding somewhere. Does not start again until cooled off.
