San pedro was my stomping ground in the 70's. Got married and had a son in Pedro. Moved to Colorado in the mid 80's. Here I am back in Pedro again in 2021. Its sad coz all my friends are gone now. But the video brought back so many great memories. Txs
In the late 1920's I think there was a small earthquake and as the houses were built on unstable ground. the houses and streets slid down the cliff. Growing up, there was no fence or warning signs and just a very narrow and broken path to the bottom. My father used to take us down because it was so dangerous, but there were the most wonderful tidepools I've ever seen at the bottom.
Greetings from Scotland Mike! Love your videos and channel, big fan and keep checking back each day for new ones. Keep up the awesome work as always. Choosai!! 😜
It was a housing community that fell into the ocean. There was a park there too with a Ferris Wheel. The only thing left are the roads that are broken into those painted flat chunks of concrete and black top you saw everyone standing on.
I love San Pedro and the Korean Friendship Bell! Some of my in-laws live over there…one year me and my wife ran the Palos Verdes Marathon and afterwards we went with family to the Bell and watched fireworks! It must’ve been the weekend of Independence Day; I’ll never forget that, it was one of those moments in time when I felt the thrill of being alive in the company of loved ones! That’s what it’s all about in the end.
I sailed those container ships into San Pedro and Long Beach for over 30 years, engineer. Missed the Korean Bell and the sunken city. The Usual Suspects is a great movie. But it pissed me off because I didn't identify the bad guy till the end despite all the clues. Hey, 2nd Street in Belmont Shores is a cool street to cruise on foot. Thanks.
It's great to see different places in LA & you still manage to tie them into filming locations! Thanks Mike! Really enjoy your videos!! Take care! Best regards,......Shane (Jaggs Journeys) Australia.
Also if you go up high in San Pedro, there is a beautiful park with a lake and path all around it.... Lots of geese and ducks... They are funny... There is a tree that has a purple leaves and black bark. Very beautiful and cliffs are breath taking also... 😄
I lived in San Pedro for 4 months in 2018. A fantastic and beautiful experience! I walked to the beach daily (3 hours round trip.) I'm back to my dear old New York City now.
I used to live on the barracks in the late 80s, we used to go into some of those undeground barraks when they were still standing an explore it was hella scary and dark..........Fishburn and Bronsan Death Wish 2 at Pt Fermin where they blew up car on cliffs.....Nice work buddy super dope memories for me
I grew up in Long Beach from 1959 to late 1965. Definitely a unique experience. I wish I could afford to come back to live there. I miss the ocean all the time.
I know this was a year ago but I loved it. I have lived in San Pedro a couple of times and never knew about the sunken city. I loved it. It's my kind of place. What great views. I love it that you take your Mother. Thanks GIV!AWESOMENESS. for sure!😊🙋♀️
I'm glad I have a friend like you to explore the world with. I would never have seen this place if it wasn't for you. Thanks for sharing, internet friend. 🌞
There are some historical homes in Wilmington and Long Beach. On PCH just south of the 110 fwy is the Banning house that can be toured. He had a lot to do with bringing electricity to L.A. and developing the harbor. (in Wilmington) In Long Beach, 2 old ranch homes called Rancho Los Cerritos, and Rancho Los Alamitos that can be toured. Both were owned by the Bixby family. There are more in the area too from the beginning of our California history. 🌻
Great video today, I got to see a side of San Pedro that I have never seen before. The trash around the sunken city area sickens me. I like seeing what is really happening to the beautiful coast. This was all very real. Thanks
I don't know how I missed this video! Well, NEXT TIME you're in San Pedro I'll show you some OTHER movie locations & introduce you to everyone at the encampment! The haunted house, maybe?
Sounds so Fun! I wish I could do that too ... except I live in New York City. My Fun things to do is to talk to strangers and to create art (ephemeral installation) in the street.
thanks to you I see amazing places Thank you for everything. I would love if you could give me a tour of the area When I get to the area. Of course it will be paid.I'm a big fan of Michael Jackson
I'm from the South Bay & never knew about the Sunken City! Where have I been? Thanks for sharing my friend...Now living in The Big Sky Country (Montana).
You climbed that fence like a champ. I'm glad your mom stayed behind. Those cliffs look dangerous. Is there a lighthouse there? I saw a sign, but I didn't see it in the video.
You don't have to climb the fence to get near the Friendship bell. You can walk up from the street below, W. Paseo Del Mar. There is a staircase base. This area in San Pedro is very cool to explore, there is also a lighthouse and a cetacean museum, and legal access to the beach.
Hi again Mike! Wow - I just noticed your subscribers around 23k yet only a few months ago was 15k! That's amazing Mike! I'm still struggling to get to my first 100 subscribers! Any tips? Also, I noticed no ads appear in your videos - are you not monetizing? I read you can get monetized once reaching 1,000 subscribers. Have to log on to UA-cam studio on a PC and set up! (I have a very long way to go!) I would hope to think that all your hard work is getting rewarded!!! Anyway - keep up the great work - Big Fan and love supporting your channel! All the way from Australia! Regards,.....Shane - Jaggs Journeys
@@germaninvenice - glad to hear you're getting rewarded for your efforts! It's tough finding regular content currently usually we focus on events, Attractions, Theme Parks but I guess any content at the moment is better than none. Hopefully we'll be able to get back to the USA soon as much more content opportunities there! Maybe we can do a vlog together!! Or even give shout outs on our channels! I always promote and share your channel with friends too as I believe your content is so interesting!. - Anyway - love your videos!!! Keep up the amazing work! Regards,......Shane (Jaggs Journeys)
I'm following you on UA-cam months ago. It's nice to see USA from Greece here. But I have to tell you that. Protect yourself and your family stay as long as want in home place. What we are living is NOT fake. So many people died in USA... What are you all people waiting to believe this?? Just tell me.
I'm local in this area and it can be very dangerous. People are known for falling to their death or getting very injured in there. I twisted my ankle pretty nasty walking down the trail. If you decide to come to Sunken City, be very careful.
@@bloosman1 This was like 6 or 7 years ago for me. That's badass to know that Sunken City has been a place to trip for all these years. To this day that was the best trip I ever had. I still can't explain some of the things i saw that night. Take care, friend.
It called Sunken City because this used to be a neighborhood by the beach. Unfortunately in 1929 a slump caused many houses to slip into the ocean.
Thanks

@Carol Utley Phineas Banning is known as the father of the Port of Los Angeles. I read up on him, he was quite the figure in his day.
Glad to see your mom is with you in LA/Venice. Good video.

Sometimes when I'm home alone I go to the backyard garden get naked cover myself with dirt and crawl around in the dirt and pretend I'm a earthworm 😏

No new vid today German !? I love your vids my guy ! ❤️

I didn't know about the sunken city. I have been to the friendship bell a few times. It's always windy.
You climbed that fence like a champ. I'm glad your mom stayed behind. Those cliffs look dangerous. Is there a lighthouse there? I saw a sign, but I didn't see it in the video.
The lighthouse is located in Point Fermin Park located next to Sunken City.
