    Just bought a $200 pair of shoes about 3 months ago and both toe boxes have formed great toe area holes...UGH! As a nurse I must keep my feet in prime condition but hate to spend high amounts of money to only have to toss them after a couple of months. You have saved me! Now....off to find a video on how to repair them. :)

    It's better to use a bigger piece because a tiny one, as the one shown, can get peeled off at the edges with the movement and friction of your toes. When you cut a more generous piece, it provides plenty of coverage if your foot and toes move around slightly during running and walking. My two cents...

    I bought new balance 519s. They have an extra layer of leather over the big toe area.These companies know this happens, and leave the shoes how they are to sell more shoes, but I aint putting up with that shit anymore. You guys might want to check those out. In the past I have done something similar to what this guy did, and it can work. I just used multiple layers of duct tape, it can fall off though. I would imagine toe protectors might be the best thing, they sell those in stores.

      Thanks for sharing for everyone. It was actually New Balances that led me to this fix many years ago...they had a really good model at the time that I liked, but I had this problem with the big toe...I can't remember which one it was on the top of my head, although I bought quite a few pair of those shoes. Glad to hear that is sounds like they fixed the problem with model you have.

    It's very frustrating having an expensive pair of running shoes develop a hole in the toe box in the first couple of weeks that you wear them. I've had to sew them to close up the hole with mixed results. Should I really be having to repair expensive shows just weeks after putting them on? I think it's a design problem from the shoe company that needs to fix this. Your idea of using moleskin is great! It's a proactive approach to the problem so you don't need to get the sewing kit out. Thanks so much for posting this video!

    • @HowTowithKevin
      @HowTowithKevin  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the comment and sharing your experience Paul! I really started noticing this issue when mesh toe boxes became popular and it really irritated me how quickly I would develop a hole, like you said, within a matter of weeks. I agree in that the companies could better reinforce this area especially since we know they have a good profit margin since they outsource manufacturing where labor is much cheaper. I've had good success with the moleskin so I'm glad you found this video and I hope this works for you, too!

      Maybe it's a feature, not a bug, so that we (seemingly) are required to buy new expensive sneakers frequently.

      Thanks Flimsy! Those are Brooks Ghosts...this is the older model, but I liked them so much, I got a second pair when they went on sale before the new model came out, lol. To me, these are closest shoes to feeling like slippers, yet still provide support 😊

      @@FlimsyIndo 😂 That is what they cost...RETAIL...now you know how I feel about buying stocks, I'm always looking to buy at the right price, lol! I actually bought this pair right before the holidays last year (after the new model came out) at $89.99. I'm not saying that they're not worth paying $130 for (they are really good shoes IMO), but if I can plan ahead, I'll buy them for less, LOL! If you wanted to get a pair, I'd recommend that strategy, buying the older model around the Black Friday sales. Unless of course, like everything else, there are supply issues!

    My solution is to stick in some duck tape. Works for me. Make sure it's a reasonable size so if it migrates a little it still covers the toe area.

  • @TheoAZ288
    @TheoAZ288 2 місяці тому

    Since this is a common issue, why won't the Shoe manufacturers build the toe box to avoid the holes? This seems like another case of planned obsolescence. Thanks for the tip.
