    Excellent finds James. Just had a listen through of all my OMD cd's after I found their latest at the record fair last week. Brian Embrionic Robot would be proud 🎹😊🎵
    Nice Juletre in the background 🎄

    Some lovely find s there. Being a 70s fan, I have all the ones you showed. The 80s passed me by a tad tbh. Never seen that Wire Lp. Have a great weekend James

      Thanks Chris...interesting response to this video with some people leaning towards the 70s and others the 80s.

    Look at all that! I need to visit the UK and Ireland again ASAP! Love that Tom Tom Club one, too. When I was in London in 2022, I found nada. Then Dublin earlier this year, also nada (except for a brand new comp 3xCD by Chris Deburgh at Tower). Happy Christmas!

      I've had a lot of luck from that Oxfam shop over the years...sometimes though there's nothing!

    I still need the Jam debut. I show everything I buy. I have some stuff I picked up in 2024 that I’ll show in 2025. No one will know the difference except you. I have three Hawkwind albums. That is enough. I think my favorite is their debut. Moot The Hoople albums are not necessarily worn in the US. They weren’t that big here. I’d go back to that shop and get the Gary Numan records. You don’t need the 2nd Simpleminds. Tom Tom Club is good but certainly not close to being great. I bought the last Marvin Gaye on CD after my brother recommended it. I didn’t care for it much. I will check out the 2nd to last.
    When you said, donkeys years it reminded me of my dad. He said that often.
    With Mazzy there is often a Beatles connection. With you there is often a Squeeze connection.

    Hi James, I think you hit the nail on the head with the Tom Tom Club album. I always wanted it as I loved the two singles but when I got it on CD I wasn't bowled over at all. Still, if I found it at a decent price on vinyl, I'd pick it up.

    • @jamesgriffithsmusic

      Hi Richard. I listened to the Tom Tom Club record again the other night and I think it's side 2 definitely that lets the side down (literally) with a couple of quite tiresome and repetitive songs. Side 1 is really good though.

    I used to share a flat in Portsmouth with a guy from Paignton who liked Martin Stephenson and the Daintees. He was the one who used to play Lloyd Cole records too. That says it all really. OMD were under appreciated in their day IMO. They had their fans, yes, but I think their song writing and musical craft was over looked by many. Many bands that used predominantly synthesizers in the 80s sound quite dated now but OMD sound better now that they did 40 years ago. Great showing James. I should tackle my inbox too.

      Stephenson is far closer to Prefab Sprout and Paddy (same record label, very similar style) than he is to Lloyd, I'd have thought he'd be more up your alley. Get your inbox shown John!

      @@jamesgriffithsmusic If I could get the 'sound stain' of Lloyd Cole off my memories then I'd be willing to give Martin Stephenson a re evaluation. I'll look into him.

    Great Alice Cooper and Mott The Hoople album. I just picked up The Hoople during the past year as well. Martin Stephenson sounds like someone I should check out. Cool story about the Sinceros album. Have a great weekend.

    Hi James. I do have The Sinceros first album titled 'The Sound Of Sunbathing' from 1979 - its a UK pressing on bright orange vinyl. Don Snow is on that album too credited with keyboards & vocals.
    I have always loved 'The Hoople' - bought it first on its release in 1974. The song 'Marionette' is a standout track.

    • @jamesgriffithsmusic
      @jamesgriffithsmusic  3 дні тому

      Hi Richard...thanks for the info on the Sinceros. Cool that you have an orange vinyl of their debut. Btw I watched your Beatles vinyl tag last night, very amusing. The Lulu/Cilla Black thing genuinely confused me, and I nearly Googled to check whether Barry had married Lulu (or was it Cilla??). Hilarious.

    Great finds as ever James 😀🍿🎸🎶 ‘The Modern World’ is the only Jam album I need in order to complete my Jam studio album catalogue; top band 😎🎸 I haven’t listened to much of Tom Tom Club’s stuff; but been meaning to check out their debut for sometime now!
    Love Wire mate; awesome band and really love their first 5-6 albums; ‘The Ideal Copy’ & ‘A Bell Is A Cup’ are fantastic albums which I must revisit in the New Year 🤩
    ‘Dazzle Ships’ was a grower for me bud; absolutely love it and the production is superb 💚 ‘The Romance Of The Telescope’ is my fav track on there 👌
    Keep up the awesome work as ever James and a great last haul of the year mate; you got amazing taste 😀🍿🙌🎸🎶

    Alright James. A nice selection. That's a great Hawkwind album. I also only bought Killer a couple of months back after years of never pulling the trigger due to condition or price. I really enjoyed it. I think that album, and Love it to Death are the only really essential Alice Cooper albums for a casual fan.

    Nice video! For me Mott the hoople, The Jam and Marvin Gaye was the best LPs. I miss the first four LPs by the Jam, only have Sound Affects and The Gift. Maybe the late Marvin Gaye is a little underrated. This one, midninght love and the posthumous Dream of a lifetime have good tracks and a nice groove. Merry Christmas!

    Hey James, I’ve never understood the disregard for This Is The Modern World neither. Packed full of great songs. For me, The Jam never made a bad album. I picked up Warm Leatherette this year. Not properly listened to it, but I’ve got a feeling it’s not my thing. I’d be keen to pick up the Tom Tom Club album. Very cool cover too! Cheers, Jack

    • @jamesgriffithsmusic
      @jamesgriffithsmusic  День тому +1

      Thanks Jack. Give WL a chance...not consistently great (side 2 definitely weaker) but the band on it are great. There are some interesting stories about the recording of the album in Chris Blackwell's recent (ish) autobiography, which is a great read by the way.

    Great pick up with Hawkwinds' 4th James..That was the first album I heard, as my brother had it when we were kids.. the chugging mush of The Psychedelic Warlords is so hypnotic..Gotta love " The Hoople"..that's my favourite of theirs and of course Ian Hunters' last gasp with the group.
    I wished I still had my copy of Warm Leatherette...early Grace Jones is fabulous and atmospheric.
    Shame you put the Gong album back..that Radio Gnome trilogy is bonkers and really inventive...OGs aren't cheap though.
    I need to listen to Gladstone Blue again.. I recall you messaging me about it.
    Nice story with The Sinceros..I don't recall them at all though.
    Your dog has some great rhythm 👌 😂.
    Wire are a really interesting band, my brother was a big fan.
    Tom Tom Clubs debut is a fabulous record, those first 2 songs, Wordy Rapinghood and Genius of Love are great fun..I think that's definitely the key word there.
    I'll have to check out that Marvin Gaye album.
    Dazzle Ships is an interesting listen..very uncommercial but that is its' strength I think..interesting comparison to Dolby too, I can definitely hear that.

    I Want You is the Marvin Gaye album you were thinking of. One of my all time favorite album covers. I remember studying it as a kid and whishing my family's parties were as much fun. I believe the artist was an NFL football player.

    I've got Love It To Death but can't bring myself to buy that one, I loathe the cover and it would spoil the album for me. Haven't listened to a great deal of Hawkwind, just rarely see them over here, but I've enjoyed what I have heard. The Kane Gang, I thrifted a copy of The Bad And Lowdown World some years ago, completely new to me, I enjoy finding those sort of 80's records that I missed at the time. Got to listen to that again, thanks for the reminder. Largely caught up on my inbox - though that will change once our postal strike is resolved as there are a couple of things stuck in transit. Cheers and happy holidays!

      Not a fan of snakes then?! I wasn't aware of the Kane Gang until Graeme Watson (Crackin' Vinyl) sent me a copy as VCLT a few years ago. I looked them up while spinning the record the other night and it seems they've had a reunion of sorts in recent times. Hope the postal strike lifts soon!

    Putting back Gary Numan albums....my flabber has never been so ghasted,shocking behaviour James 😮😮😮
    I was never much of a pre-All Mod Cons album fan back in the day but their early,more punkish vibe eventually grew on me.

    I don't show everything I buy because I think some items are simply too boring or common! I once referred to these as lightweight finds. I think I have everything by the Jam. At one time, they were all easy to find here. I had no idea that Grace covered Tom Petty. Hey, I have that Martin Stephenson LP! I have never seen anyone show it. I might have to pull that one out. Hey, I have that Wire album too, but I have no memory of where or when I bought it. I found a copy of A Bell is a Cup in a thrift shop, but it was destroyed and unplayable 😞Of course, I am a big fan of Dazzle Ships. I even bought the 2023 2LP anniversary edition.

    Nice finds James - the jam 2nd I agree is not as bad as it’s reputation- it’s kinda killed by what came next
    Glad it’s not just me that can do Mod and Hawkwind ! They are such a great band on record through the 70’s and still decent after that - the only more daunting catalogue is The Fall !

      @jamesgriffithsmusic  День тому +1

    Hawkwind are a slippery slope...as I have found out! Their late 70s albums, when Robert Calvert came back, are rather punky and succinct.
    I imagine a few people will be telling you to go back and get those Gary Numan records. I was daft for dismissing him for years. He’s great.

    • @jamesgriffithsmusic
      @jamesgriffithsmusic  3 дні тому +1

      Hi John. I have a few Gary Numan records, he's someone I've really grown to like over the last few years. I actually saw him live at a festival back in the mid-noughties and he was amazing - jumping around the stage and striking poses - literally nothing like I was expecting! I'm determined not to slide down the slippery slope of Hawkind. I did that with Santana a few years ago and lived to regret it.

    Killer is my second fave Alice Cooper album after Billion Dollar Babies. I don't know much of Hawkwind either,basically only know that Lemmy played in it for a while and is on their biggest(only?)hit Silver Machine and wrote the song Motörhead while in the band. They still continue with line up of some dude and somebody else. My short Squeeze story, I've been trying to find Cool For Cats on vinyl now for a couple of years (do have it on cd, but have everything else on vinyl so must have it too) and while searching i've been buying every Squeeze single that i've come across. I've managed to find surprisingly many. The idea is to stop buying the singles once i find the album. Will i, remain to be seen.
    I have never seen that Marvin Gaye album, don't recall hearing about it though i must've since i read the biography. I'm surprised by it since it was recorded during his "clean up" year of 1981 when he was trying to, not necessarily to get clean of cocaine, but to clear his head and avoid his massive taxes.

    Oo, ooh, I know about Vorticism! (I knew my time at art school would come in handy some day). It was an art movement that grew out of the Italian Futurist movement, who's affiliates flirted with extreme politics and glorified the oncoming industrial age of the machine. A major exponent in the UK was a guy called Wyndham Lewis. Because of its association with the right, it was both unusual and effectively shunned by leftie art schools who viewed it as a cultural dead end and rather unfortunate.
