Thats because if u didn't realize it the man on the black horse represents death. He's wearing all black, his horse is black same thing u can say the reaper or death would wear. While buster is in all white the same representation of angels or heaven etc. Once he saw him coming, he knew his time was coming to an end. He even admits in the movie that he bit off more than he could chew. Also another clue is buster getting his wings and flying away as the man in black leaves.
Morale of the story, don't ever be complacent in life. Buster rode the tight rope, the fine line of live or death for too long and was so good at doing so that he ended becomming complacent with himself, forgotting what the stakes were but his ultimate sin, in my opinion, was his lack of due respect for those who rode on the same road as he did. Buster was already dead, he was dealth the dead man's hand, he just didn't know or realised it soon enough and that's what cost him his life. Don't ever forget that no matter how much you know, how much you understand and how good you are at everything in livr that you will never ever know, understand and be good enough at anything in your life ever. The universe is just too big and you are just a nothing part of it. It doesn't mean you have to be fine with that, i'm not.

He didn't in the last story we see the bounty hunters/reapers carry a wanted man (Thorpe) up the stairs to the light because it was too late to drop him off with the "sheriff". It can be inferred that going up to the light is just heading to be judged in the afterlife. It's kinda implied that wanted people like Buster and Thorpe don't fair too well when the "midnight caller" comes knocking.
That’s the point. The story is actually a deconstruction of the kind of character Buster Scruggs represents. The charming, white-hat-weating, singing cowboy who is supposed to be a good guy but shoots and kills tons of other people without hesitation. Even if the people he killed were bad and going to kill him, Buster’s behavior is kind of… _psychopathic._ Like in the cantina over the card game- who starts singing and dancing immediately after killing someone, even leading other people to celebrate?

I think since it was partly a comedy, they did that deliberately. I've seen films where there were time placement errors, and they get openly acknowledged in said film
