    Ok, guys, got it figured out. YES the bike has a Quick Shifter but the problem was that it takes a little bit of time for it to work as I was the first one on this bike, meaning it had 0 km on it and if I had tried the QS say after 5 or so km it would have worked. But I only tried it right away as I started off and nothing. So I just didn't use it.
    I know this BECAUSE I just took the New Tiger 900 out today and it did the same thing, the QS was not working at first but I kept trying and after about 5km it started to work and after say 10km it was smooth as can be.
    Edit: The BMW F900XR QS is the same way, except it worked right away just not very well, takes even longer for it to really work well. The XR that I put almost 600km's on took well over 100km's before it was really working well. So it really depends on the OEM, KTM is not like this, their QS works right away on new bikes...at least for the Super Duke R and I was not the first on the GT & Super Adventure so I can't speak for that but I'm assuming it's the same because it's the same basic engine and QS.

      Really like your detailed reviews. I got my 2020 Triumph Street Triple RS yesterday and I'm very impressed. I also have a BMW S1000R and it is right there with it as far as build quality, refinement, smoothness, handling. The quick shifter is not as smooth as the BMW, but may be because it's brand new and needs to get broken in. The BMW is so smooth. I traded in a 790 Duke like the other guy here because I just didn't like some of the annoying nuances with that bike; namely, the heat from the engine, jerkiness at low speed and a clunking noise, hard seat, the quick shifter was only really good for hard acceleration, otherwise it was clunky. The motor did have character and torque, but it would be no match for the Triumph, especially up top. This bike has a 14K red line and the KTM is quite a bit lower. And frankly, I like the looks of the Street Triple RS over the KTM. I tried to love the KTM, but it just didn't happen and we parted ways. The Triumph will be a long-term love affair.

    Just picked mine up Friday. Great quality bike. Up there with BMW S1000R I had. Much better than 790 Duke I traded in. Reqarding dash styles. I can read numbers but they just look rubbish. I like different but these are bad different. The rpm display is really poor. Great review. Love your style.
    Edit: nope it's much better than the S 1000R.

    I got mine in January and love it. Agree with you about the rev counter, hopefully a software update as you say, but it’s pretty much the only thing about the bike that does need to change. It does have a quickshifter as standard, super smooth up and down, even around town, but if you do use the clutch that’s nice and light too. Makes a real good noise from the standard exhaust which just makes me very happy! Looking forward to spring and taking it on some longer rides to see how that goes

    Old but honest review. Bought my Triumph based on this. Somehow i found a way to show rpm on the left and a speedo on the right . Excellent visible for another >50 Street Triple RS rider. They are excellent bikes and a bang for the buck considering the components it is made of. Brilliant review as always.

    Another great review, thanks! I'd just like to say that, even though you have added that cool camera where you can see you while you ride, I really liked the slo mo drive by feature you used to do. Being a bit on the older side, riding position/ergonomics is a big deal to me. We are about the same size and it was always very helpful to see your position as you drove by each direction. That feature in your review was a great way to fully see that!
    Also, I think Triumph is assuming people will get a feel for the rpm numbers and be able to intuitively know from the color expanding where they are with the rpms. I don't like it either, it isn't exact enough if you can't see the actual numbers. I like to know precisely where I am. After a ton of hours I am sure you could be fairly accurate with the expanding color (can't think of another way to describe that) and what rpm that relates to, but until that time it would be nice to be able to see the numbers more clearly.
    I am buying a new city/commute bike in the next few days. I love how light weight and flickable this bike is! I will be doing quite a bit of lane filtering and I feel this bike will be perfect. Can't beat the price either!

    Nice review as always.
    I went to my dealer this week and got one on order in black now! I was already in love when i had a test ride on the 2019 version last year and this one is even better.
    I also agree that the TFT layout/design is not great. Everyone seems to complain about it so i hope they will give it an update. Before the dealer updates the bike they have the 2019 graphics on them. Wish they would offer that as an optional choice. What was sadly missing for the 2020 refresh was an IMU for lean ABS and i wish you could get an optional cruise control. Also nit picking is that i preferred that both headlights would burn on the 2019 model whereas the 2020 model only has one on. Nothing big enough to stop me from ordering one though.

    Great review Scott. I am looking at the R model. It is at the top of my price tolerance for a 750 ish bike. I won't get on a track and the suspension is a little softer which will suit me. I ride around the city and some rough tight roads. I have am light so need to dial in some static sag (short legs too). Both have up and down quick shifter. But hey in town why not grab the clutch and let everyone know you are there. I test rode the RS. Enough power everywhere and corners like its on a rail. Agree the Tach is unreadable. Also looking at a budget alternative the Ninja 650. Literally 2/3 the price for a bike with 1000km on the clock. Can't decide, the money or the performance and handling. Presumably I will would not get bored with the Street Triple R so it is more likely to be a long term or end bike?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Paul, I would get bored on the Ninja 650 and want a little more BUT it's a very reliable and easy to maintain and maintenance costs are the least out all the middleweights nakeds. The RS is at the other end of the spectrum in cost but so is the performance. So it's a give and take, you want performance, well, there's a cost that comes with that, sigh. 🤔

      @@NothingToProve Thanks for responding. I have a top box and mostly run around the city to meetings or doing chores. And I am not a fan of very high speed. But I do love pushing hard through tight twisting corners on a couple of mountain passes or on a coast road. I have a second house half way around an outstanding and famous loop ride. tightening steep switch backs, firm trail braking all the way through and then a short burst and flop over the other way. Riding a Honda CBR500R quite firmly so the 650 would give me a 40% lift in power and torque and initial rush. twin Nissans instead of single. Certainly plenty of everything for around town. But the mountain roads.... I rode a Street Triple RS. Very quick and on rails.... But not really hard and not on those amazing roads.

      @@NothingToProve Two thumbs to you Scott for good advice. I test rode the full power Ninja 650 and got bored on the ride. Very cool. Must find your review video again. I will find a Street Triple to ride again soon.

    Currently own a speed triple.
    In terms of usable midrange, comfort and flikability: was wondering how the the speed triple (1050) compares to the street current street (765). Heard they were closer, but is that the street coming up to the speed's midrange performance, or the speed's coming to the street ergos / temelpathic steering / CoG?
    If I dropped to a street, would I notice a significant drop in midrange and low end torque trying to gain a bit more ergonomic happiness and flickabaility?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 роки тому +8

      Thank you Paul.
      The 900R is a better all-rounder but on a performance level, it can't compete with the RS. The reason is that the RS performance is so high that it is "edgy" for every day "normal/boring" riding. That is what the 900R was aiming for, not to compete against the performance of the RS but to be a better more comfortable every day/longer distance rider. If I was going to do weekend/week long trips, I'll take the 900R every time. But if I wanted to just have day rides and have the maximum amount of fun during that day ride (i.e. keep up with aggressive riding sport bike guys) then I'd take the RS.

I don't like that display 'layout' at all. As you went through the different 'styles'; they are just variations on a flawed theme IMHO. Dear Triumph, look at how BMW does TFT screen layouts. I'm sorry if you've covered this already -- but where do you get all of these bikes to test? A local dealer lets you take them out for a spin? Here in DC, the dealers seem to be really hesitant to allow test drives on new bikes. Liability aside, they also don't want to run miles up on a new bike... maybe things are a bit more relaxed in Europe? great videos btw ! :)

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Andrew,
      There are plenty of U.S. channels that ride way more bikes than I do here in Germany. I think that the States are more relaxed than here where every thing is regulated so much. I'm just older and I can establish a relationship with a dealership to ride their demo bikes much easier than a younger guy.
      Plus out of almost 100 bikes on my channel, I've never crashed and burned as of yet...knock on wood. But luck has very little to do with it as I am very methodical in my approach to each new bike that I ride, with an objective to experience the bike and explain it to the viewer and represent the dealership in a mature responsible way (hence why you will almost never see me exceed the speed limit in a video...at least you won't see the read out).
      Right now I work with 5 dealerships, they know me well and I know them and they know when they see me that I only want to do one thing and that is to shoot a video for my channel and not take a bike out for a "joy ride".
      Reputation is everything.
      Hence the name of my channel :)
      Ride safe,
      Scott

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 роки тому

      Hmm...interesting. No the QS is not adaptive, meaning it does not learn from the riders habits, nor forms shift patterns, there might be something else wrong with it. I would take it up to your local dealership and ask the mechanic to take it out for a test ride and see if he can duplicate what you are talking about. And if so then they have to fix it 😁 Also it might not have the latest software, they can check that too.

I found in low-speed maneuvers the steering wanted to turn in more on me than I asked and I had to muscle it to not turn so tight. But of course, at speed, the handling was impeccable. Might this have to do with the tires that come stock on these bikes? I've heard they are rather aggressive profiles. I usually ride sport-touring tires, would that address this issue. I commute every day so having to muscle the bike in low-speed maneuvers is a no-go.

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 роки тому

      It could be several things to be honest. But yes, one thing is that the stock tires have a brilliant turn in that is great for track days but not so great for every day riding. Also the air pressure might have been low too, this is often one of the many signs of low air pressure. There are many many other things that can contribute to what you are referring to, so it's hard to pin point just one cause.

      @@NothingToProve No man thats what I wanted to say. I was toooooo lazy to do things but after I saw you doing this I decided to create my own channel.
      Use an ND filter only when a sunny day when your gopro video is overexposed with 1/60,100 iso. Using ND filter is to drop-down shutter speed to 1/60(when you shoot 30fps. when you shoot 60fps for 2x slow-motion, shoot with 1/120 ). Otherwise, your ISO goes high(quality goes down) or your video goes dark(quality goes down to make it brighter).
      Don't forget, you need to adjust the 'flat' color in post. It will give you a more dynamic color range.
      Find out 'free LUT' which is 'color preset' you can apply it in post. It will give you an easy way to change color space or look.
      Also, since your videos have a lot of movements, set a bit rate in pro tune(GoPro) as HIGH. The file size should be bigger but better quality(less compression).
      I hope that these can help.

      The Z900 for 2020 is very nice now that it has a TFT screen. I personally just don't like the looks of the bike but i can totally see the appeal and great value in it. The 2020 Street Triple R does not come with a TFT dash (while the 2019 R did). I think that a bike without TFT will age poorly and that it might even affect it's future resale value. But some people don't mind it and you are getting a very good bike/value otherwise. If you are not very sporty i would certainly have a look at the BMW F900R too. You get a lot of bike for the money and it has a more relaxed riding position.

    Hello ! congratulations for your videos, I would like to have your opinion because I am looking to change my sv 650 2019 for another naked bike. Here are my two choices, the new 2019 triumph streete triple R or the bmw f900r. As I live in Quebec (Canada) because of the snow here the bmw people have not yet driven it so no one to give an opinion. So my question according to you knowing that last year in 4 months I traveled 20,000 km. I need a motorcycle that can allow me to ride days of more than 400km and even 600km. What to choose between the 2 for driving pleasure, comfort, performance and reliability? the 2 make me look but I can choose only one.

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you Luc,
      Well, if you want more comfort then BMW, if you want more performance then RS, it really comes down to that. It seems that you'll be doing a lot of km on it, so I'd suggest the BMW for that. Most and I say "most" RS's don't have a lot of km on them (I mean you will always have exceptions) whereas BMW's in general do. And this is one of the reasons, comfort. The 900R is one of the most comfortable middleweight nakeds I've ridden thus far.
      Good luck with your decision :)

      IMHO the only real difference with the 2020 is the TFT, the rest is really just a very small incremental increase in performance that one will really feel under track conditions. Under normal street conditions, they feel the same to me. (I actually like the old air induction sound better than the new one) So if you are never going to do track days, the 18/19 is the same...unless of course you have to have the new TFT.

    The bike is starting to look better:, the headlights are improved; the vile red sub-frame has gone. But, although it's the best value bike for bucks available, the looks of it still don't stir me. And, living near London, the cheapest insurance quote I could get for the R model was a third of the price of the bike for a year's cover. Which, to me is not acceptable. Why on earth don't Triumph just copy BMW TFTs, they're so much better. Or go back to analogue with the R - Oops! they've done that, - but not in a very stylish way.
