A great thought on defensive firearms is, "when police are needed in seconds they are only minutes/hours away", or better yet "best to be judged by 12 than carried by 6".
I stand by police but to a certain extent. Look at what’s going on now. One of them unloaded a couple mags because of an acorn and the other because she saw a lady with one in her own home 🤦🏽♂️ When you want something done right, sometimes you need to do it yourself…
I always find it interesting how Some Brits will come for Americans and call us Gun nuts for our interest in firearms, when they are the reason we have guns 😂
It would appear that that is not true. Most online sources say the percentage of Americans who own them has stayed relatively steady over the last several decades, between 35% and 50%. I found several article claiming that it's dropped, and several others that it's risen. The total number of weapons has increased, but they are mostly bought by those who are already owners (one source reports that only 3% of Americans own one-third of the total).
@@JPMaddenthat’s what has been reported. Americans have learned not to register or buy from stores that report the sell of a firearm. The government doesn’t have a right to know who owns firearms✌️
@@AW11-e4h Some of these statistics come from the manufacturers. I suppose they could be understating how much they sell, but that would damage their stock prices. Doesn't sound plausible. Also, if so many Americans are buying from independent sellers rather than stores legally required to report the purchases, how are these stores still in business?
Many Gun owners in the US say that “guns are a tool” i don’t know much about the gun culture since im from Cali although i would like too know more but it makes sense to me because you can use guns for different things like sports, self defense, hunting, etc. It honestly bothers me how politicians try and make everyone scared of guns when it’s the people who use them that are the problem, and because they keep talking about the “bad guys” with guns it just makes me want to own a gun even more so I can defend myself against them lol.
A gun is something you'd really want to have but not need. Getting caught without one when one is needed is probably a life or death situation. Other than that, they're fun and it's the same premise with anything: Why should someone else tell me what I can or can't own?
I'm from Cali too. Never got one because of regulations. When I moved to Ohio I ended up buying one. No registration or license to carry here. Just a quick background check and you're good to go.

Gun ownership has literally skyrocketed so the idea that it’s completely tied to property kinda shows that the dude who made the video doesn’t really understand the actual current firearms culture in America but instead has a surface level textbook understanding of it not meaning any disrespect to the dude but it goes much much much deeper than what he’s trying to make it out to be
Yeah, He did kinda get it correct in the way that property ownership did really start it but then he just left out anything after that which then changed the way the gun culture works

@calebmiller3644 once again where did I say that it wasn’t correct point out exactly where I said that. I said it’s not the full picture and a surface level assessment
The number of law abiding gun owners in America is rising every year for the last 10-15 years. One doesn’t need to own “property” to have a need for a gun. Personal protection is a big factor. Exercising their 2nd Amendment rights is another factor. Just like how people hold the freedoms of speech and religion are held by many Americans.
A lot of people misunderstand what the 2nd amendment to the US Constitution actually does. It doesn't give you the right to carry or own firearms. That is a right that is already recognized by the US Constitution for an American citizen. What the 2nd amendment does is state that that right cannot be infringed upon by the government. The word "infringed" is pretty clear, but people still try to blur those lines. Now a private place, business, building, etc. can absolutely ban weapons of any kind on the premises and that's because the Bill of Rights (the first 10 amendments) is essentially relating to rights you have that protect the people from the government, not necessarily from or against each other. This is why hate speech is also legal and protected by the 1st amendment. What is morally right and wrong vs what is law, don't always coincide with each other.
@calebmiller3644that’s the issue though, people renting in Canada, Australia, NZ, most of Europe don’t feel the need to have a gun to protect their family and the stats back them up, it’s incredibly rare to have burglars/home invaders come on your property with guns.
@@wayneperry7413 luckily for US citizens, the second amendment wasn’t written with the idea of feeling the need to protect yourself from burglary but instead was written with the idea of one being able to protect themselves from their own government instead. This is the fundamental problem I have with arguments of people who claim we don’t need guns because it’s so rare that one should ever have to use them. WHEN the time comes that the government crosses a line that shouldn’t be, people deserve the right to let that government know they’ve crossed it. And those people should have the right to protect themselves from retaliation from said oppressive government.
@@wayneperry7413know your home Intruders in burglars have knives and baseball bats and then you don't have a gun to defend yourself and you just have to fist fight that guy for your s***. My getting Justice shouldn't depend on if I'm a better fist fighter then my burglar
97% of gun crime occurs in the 3% of the country where gun control laws exist. The idea is if everyone is likely to be armed then criminals don't give it a go. Gun-free zones are exactly where the mass shootings occur (schools, churches, courthouses, cities), never in areas where everyone likely has a gun. It's a bit counterintuitive but also makes sense, if everyone is essentially doing undercover policing then you don't have to rely on (or as a criminal, observe and avoid) the small number of actual uniformed/obvious police to deter criminal activity, whether it's your own life and property, or others. This is also why areas with "concealed carry" are safer, if criminals can simply observe how many bystanders are armed (visible holsters) it's just the same as looking around for how many uniformed police are in the area and if there are none or few, game on (subdue the few armed/uniformed first). Choosing to disarm oneself is actually letting your fellow citizens down, criminals will always have guns, or use the next most effective weapon. Nobody wants to shoot anyone else, but having the possibility is itself a deterrent. And then if the police or government or invading force wants to be criminal or oppressive they have to think twice as well. And then there are a few criminals that want to die anyway so the deterrent becomes a positive, you may have heard of "suicide by cop" or of course mass shootings where they essentially wanted to die but take some perceived enemies with them. But that is not a gun problem it's a mental healthcare or social problem, don't ban guns, ban people being so hopeless they want to leave the game (by finding and helping them... beforehand) or mean to each other so as to form mortal enemies. The police are great and all but they can't be everywhere within seconds.
Cite your source because that stat is wrong. The majority of gun crimes take place in red states, and red counties in blue states. The reason there are so many guns in Chicago is because it's really easy to get a gun in the rest of Illinois and neighboring states.
@@kwams26 "The majority of gun crimes take place in red states, and red counties in blue states" Yeah you should also include those crimes you speak of are not murders. Hilarious video! lmao! Gun ownership is at an all time high. I don't personally know anyone that doesn't own multiple guns and are still buying. Even when I was a renter, I owned more than 1 gun. Now I own 7 acres and I'll keep what I own private. I was getting fuel at the station and a man was walking around the parking lot acting strange. He looked around and saw that I was the only one there and started walking toward me. I lifted up my shirt and just leaned against my truck. He saw what was on my hip and suddenly turned around and walked away. When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
Think of this as "a knife is a tool just like a hammer, saw or ice pick". A gun is also a tool. It also takes someone to use it. It is the PERSON that determines how and why!
It doesn’t take but one time or seconds for someone to initiate harm to you or your family. Then that would be the one time you wished you had something to protect you or your family.
This is what I believe in because historically it’s what has happened. You really think your government cares enough about you to protect you from certain threats? You’re a peon lol
Dave referenced Joe Rogan and the Stand your Ground law while back, and how the intruder doesn't have to armed. I grew up knowing how to fire a gun with some accuracy since I was a child. I then also taught my children gun safety, having a healthy fear and respect of guns and how to shoot the target. I live in Texas... which is not even in the top 10 states for gun ownership per capita in spite of what the all knowing meow likes to represent. Of course if an intruder broke into my home, He would have a choice to leave or get shot. I'm a woman, and a man doesn't need to bring weapons into my house to subdue me or harm me., so yeah... I've never shot another human being, but if someone is stupid enough to break into my house with my children upstairs, whatever they came for must be worth losing their life.
In grade school we would bring our hunting knives to school for show and tell. In High School we'd bring our fire arms (even full auto rifles) to school and trade with our friends for guns we hadn't shot before. NEVER any shootings. No gun murders. Almost ZERO violent crime. But, people armed to the t even as children. Smoke that.

As an American, a Veteran and a gun owner I'm not buying the decline in property ownership argument as eventually undermining our gun culture. It is so deeply ingrained (except for obvious Blue areas) in our DNA that this argument isn't resonating with me. And I believe that one of you mentioned about the graph that it doesn't show the gun ownership rate (sales) which is through the roof and has been for many, many years now based on the FBI NICS data (applications for purchasing firearms essentially) and I haven't seen any correlation to property ownership. I could be wrong but I'm just not seeing it.

The Bill of Rights (the first 10 amendments) doesn't tell the people what they can do, it tells the government what it *can't* do. Rights that the gov shouldn't be able to strip away (even though they constantly try)
As an Southern American I give this video a 8/10 He gets some things right like a nail on the head but other things seem to kinda go over his head. Not sure if this is because the video author himself isn’t American, but he seems to overlooks some attitudes and perspectives Americans have on gun ownership. The idea that gun ownership comes solely from the concept of protecting private property is good but he fails to note how that origin has evolved into gun culture that now includes protecting private property, but has a lot more nuance and complexity than solely that.
I think it will be very beneficial for you all to read the Declaration of Independence. There is a UA-cam video of someone reading it. This video might be the origin, but that video will explain why that has changed. It’s not tied to property anymore, this will explain why it backfired on Britain.
This video (being reacted too) has a bit of tunnel vision when it comes to US "gun culture" and the 2nd amendment specifically. It may have been tied to defending property in the beginning, but its intent and focus as written in the 2nd amendment as a right of the people was much broader than that. It primarily helps to dissuade the government from becoming tyrannical and if it does become tyrannical, the people then have the means to fight off that tyranny.

Better to have and not need than need and not have. People don't argue against fire extinguishers because you aren't likely to have a fire. We have 4 vehicles and I have multiple lock blade knives in each. I also have a survival rifle and a light axe (have finished off a few deer with this) in my pickup.
Glad you guys get it, I feel this video only covers HALF of the origins, neglecting the values of protecting not just property but of rights our Founding Fathers fought for and it’s something everyone generations wishes to preserve.
It has nothing to do with property ownership these days and everything to do with self-preservation. Though we consider ourselves civilized we are the most unpredictable and deadly creatures on this planet.

Some countries, including America responded by creating the Boy Scouts, conforming to Powell's field manual. Some of my fondest memories of growing up in the 1970's. Their moto is "Always be prepared" "Always Prepared" is, among other things, carrying a pen-knife. I do, and I'll fight anyone who criticizes OB Dave for doing so. Cheers
Gun ownership is not tied to just owning property. It’s tied to self regulation(ie self responsibility) and self defense. The ability for one to defend one’s self is why firearm owners have their piece on hand. To be honest the vast majority of people I know who have guns(we’re talking handguns, shotguns, rifles whatever) don’t own their own property. It’s about priority. Priority 1 is yourself, priority 2 is your family/friends, then comes house and home at priority 3. This video is backwards.
I’m not an avid gun enthusiast but I own a gun to keep in my house. I’m in Texas but even in California I did. If they’re like me most people just have a gun in case you need it for protection in your house. I don’t open carry or have a concealed carry permit as I don’t see the need but I see situations where it’s good to have somebody armed and I support it. I understand the controversy but the fact is most people are responsible and aren’t constantly thinking about the guns at home because they’re just there.
I was cracking up watching the first few minutes of y’all trying to guess why America gun culture exists while fully well knowing your forefathers are the SOLE reason American gun culture exists 😂😂😂
I think this origin thesis is pretty valid and while certainly property owners are more inclined to be more prominent advocates, ownership is pretty equal across groups whether you're talking a property owner in the suburbs or a person renting an apartment in a midtown high rise. It seems incredibly unlikely private land, which is the kind of property we're focused on, is going to be relevant to 2A's downfall.
This guy is way off. The #1 reason we have maintained our gun culture is that the founders had LITERALLY just won a war against a tyrant(with guns and private cannons on private ships), and wanted to enshrine that protection from government infringement. It doesn't guarantee our right to own guns explicitly. It is a restriction on the government from making any rules about it. Private property rights are paramount. But not the reason for maintaining gun ownership as this video would say. Also I don't blame you Daz; in a knife fight, the loser dies and the winner bleeds out on the way to the hospital.
Yeah there is a good reason for it. Kraut the video creator; formerly known as krautntea is a serial doxxer and harasser who has worked to cancel and attack people to the right of him. Do not assume anything he says or posts is in good faith.
Great video and reaction. I agree that American gun culture probably started out that way. The argument is persuasive. However, that doesn't strike me as a top reason anymore. Protecting yourself and your family are easily at the top. And most Americans still think protecting their property, whether that is land or simply items in your home, even a rented one, is an unalienable right.
So I have at least 2 guns with me all day everyday. One 9mm handgun and one 9mm AR style rifle that folds in half and goes in my backpack. Do i NEED to have all that with me everyday? Absolutely not and the likelihood that I will have to defend myself at that level is very low but if that ever happens i dont want to ever regret not having it. It's completely legal and I'm not endangering ANYONE whatsoever. In fact the people around me are safer from harm just because I'm there and i have a good amount of skill in shooting from a lifetime of practice. I've seen footage of some of these mass shootings and people just try to hide and pray.....I NEVER want to look at my child in thay situation and just feel like I can do nothing to save us......nope! You will have to beat me in a gun fight and to that I tell you GOOD LUCK! 😂 Thanks for another good video if anyone actually reads all this
The origin of the American gun culture dates all the way back to King Henry's time. Where the militia (those men NOT in the military) were required to be well regulated (competent in arms). The Founders of the USA were able to throw off their tyrannical government BECAUSE they were allowed to bear arms. Thus the 2nd Amendment's wording. It is about keeping the state free by being dangerous to a tyrannical gov't. That's all
Here in Canada, (White Rock, BC) we just had a shooting (likely gang related) in which four people were shot and injured by a man wielding a fully-automatic rifle/machine gun. The thing is, fully-automatic firearms have been banned in Canada since 1977 and most rifle caliber weapons are restricted to five rounds per magazine/firearm. The Nova Scotia shooter in 2020 used illegally obtained firearms smuggled over the US border. The point is, gun laws only affect people who follow the law anyways. If you're willing to kill someone or multiple people, you're likely also willing to go out of your way to obtain illegal firearms to do so, you use another method.
LOL, Gun ownership has been linear in America, it is not related to home ownership. Gun ownership is not related to crime, could I be victim of crime? Yes? Then I'm gonna strap up.
I personally don't own one, I've never felt the need to own one myself. I don't know many people who do own one. I live in a regular neighborhood in a huge city, not posh by any standards. It's a personal thing in the end.
Depending on where you live you might be surprised just how many people around you carry but aren't exactly broadcasting it. Again it depends on your location.
Appreciate you guys going over this . I will say the creator of the video is absolutely WRONG . While defending private property may have been a large part of the origins of our gun culture it is in no way directly tied to it in modern America. There are more new gun owners now more than ever....ammo manufacturers can barely keep up with demand because so many new shooters.
When a country gets big enough, even the size of the UK let alone the U.S. it's almost impossible to be a direct democracy or pure democracy. Most people don't have the time or knowledge to vote on every single law and do what ancient Athens did.
in the US gun purchases increase by multiple orders of magnitude every election cycle lol. It definitely is on the rise, and there is a variety of reasons for it but property ownership at this point has little to do with it. He is correct that historically it was a main driver but at this point in 2024 it is definitely more about personal protection etc.
gun culture is tied to our desire to remain free, yes that means to own property and to safe keep it but also to repulse a foreinge invader. during ww2 admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was asked his view on a invasion of the u.s. his reponse “You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.” we are also concered with our own government turning tyranical, Thomas Jefferson said “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants,”. you ask why do we need guns, to shoot beer bottles with our kids for fun. to hunt for food. to defend our families and frens from threat. to defy a government gone rogue. to make war agasint any foreinge foe who would dare step on our land.
Fwiw, Americans tend to view British/European judgments on the US and guns ridiculous considering the rather lavish "parties" Europe held in the first half of the 20th century, and really before that. Of course it's all super peaceful now... oh wait, what happened in the former Yugoslavia? And wait, what's happening right now in Ukraine. Puhleeze.
Think about gun control this way. For every legal gun there is an illegal gun. To make guns illegal is merely to take guns from law abiding people and leave guns only in the hands of the criminals. Making something illegal does not end it. Drugs are illegal , does not stop people from using them and our country from being flooded by them now does it. Like prohibition did nothing to end alcohol use and only gave rise to illegal use.
Our right to gun ownership isn't about self defense, although a huge bonus. No, WE have guns to overthrow a corrupt and out of control government as the Constitution states is OUR DUTY when necessary. WE are NOT RULED OVER, WE ALLOW representatives to speak on our behalf. OUR brilliant founders stated clearly "when the government fears the people, there will be peace. When the people fear the government, tyranny". That is where the expression peace through strength actually comes from. FYI. Loonies all say, "you can over through the government with a pistol". Well we OVER THROUGH the greatest military force in the world at the time with not much more than sticks. WE have 300+ million american citizens currently plus around 35 million illegal aliens. Around about 200 million firearms are legally owned. If firearms and legal gun ownership were "the problem" there would be less then 100 million people left. I might or might not choose to own a gun but I will get one and fight to the death for the right of my neighbor to own one. Quick facts: Gun violence is actually far less than the leftist, agenda driven, media reports because for one the media includes accidental shootings and suicides and even with those numbers added in, death by firearm does not come close to the yearly flu death rate around at around 60,000, the drunk driving fatalities of 100,000 or heart attack deaths of about 250,000 per normal year. You have to actually fact check the data. You want the history of arms in America go the Prager U, FBI stats, the CDC morbidlypages.
Modern Gun ownership is not tied to owning property, though it used to be. Thats a very foreign and detached observation. Just because less people own land or own homes, doesnt mean gun ownership will trend down. Kraut was very far off here.
Also, btw, the video is seriously confused about the American civil war. Private firearm ownership didn't power that, entire states rebelled. And yes the states are armed.

To defend your person, your family and your property, against all enemies foreign and domestic, who attempt to take your life, family or property. The control of guns is in the owners hands (or law enforcement’s if confiscated). It is illegal to use it offensively against another person or their property. Fully automatic weapons are illegal and that’s the only regulation needed (agreed upon by the people and the gun manufacturers). What we need are harsher punishments for those who use guns offensively or illegally. Truth be told, I wouldn’t mind if they confiscated every illegal firearm, melted them down and made a statue of a giant handgun to put in the middle of downtown Chicago. I could be wrong but it seems like your perception is that we should give up assault rifles because they are being used in mass sh00tings, just don’t forget that it often takes a cop or several cops using that same model AR to stop mass sh00ters. And there are way more handgun related deaths in this country than by rifles (KC Chiefs parade shooting, gang related). You may hear about a couple of them every year but there were 656 mass shootings (4 or more victims), 42,987 gun violence deaths and 36,366 injuries in 2023, in a population of 400 million. There are also between 35,000 and 45,000 car accident fatalities every year. Perspective is important. Bottom line is, we’re allowed to have them and use them (all varieties). The government says, use them responsibly or suffer the consequences of jail.
I don’t like that he said there are hardly any rules about gun ownership. That is not right, at all. There are rules and regulations, criminals go around those rules, why? Because they are criminals! Also, the only comparison he made with the violence of guns was those for slavery. There were also those with guns, against slavery, it’s two sided, and it always will be. Criminals and upstanding citizens, for slavery, against slavery. There are always two sides, but you can hold your own when you know how to defend yourselves. Like I’ve said before, it’s deeper than property, rules, criminals, and non criminals. Yes! It but the British back because of what they wanted to do with those that settled in the new world. What they did to Britain, they tried here, and failed miserably. Few people lifted a nation against a great force, because they chose to stand up and make Britain do the right thing. They didn’t want to, we held our ground and look where we are now.
No. The American gun culture is tied to our love and addiction to freedom and the ability to defend ourselves from our government. As long as there’s a government in the world that exists or freedom to be had the American gun culture will thrive.

Most guns are inherited the government doesn’t even know where they are.
Not fully true a lot of Americans have been against guns and weapons. Those however are the minority in the country.
A great thought on defensive firearms is, "when police are needed in seconds they are only minutes/hours away", or better yet "best to be judged by 12 than carried by 6".

I always find it interesting how Some Brits will come for Americans and call us Gun nuts for our interest in firearms, when they are the reason we have guns 😂
Gun ownership has skyrocketed in the United States in the last 10-15 years as well as the amount of states who now have Constitutional Carry.

Gun ownership has literally skyrocketed so the idea that it’s completely tied to property kinda shows that the dude who made the video doesn’t really understand the actual current firearms culture in America but instead has a surface level textbook understanding of it not meaning any disrespect to the dude but it goes much much much deeper than what he’s trying to make it out to be
Yeah, He did kinda get it correct in the way that property ownership did really start it but then he just left out anything after that which then changed the way the gun culture works
@@maxmichaels5593 yeah it’s correct that it started out that way but it’s pretty heavily evolved since then it’s not just gonna go away when you see private property go away also I never said he didn’t get it correct read my comment again

We have a sheriff in Florida said if you're not afraid of guns buy one for protection of your home and family
Totally disagree with Daz: I always carry a tiny Swiss Army knife on my key ring because it IS useful for so many things.
People who rent still have guns for self defense and defense of their family
Shh don’t tell anyone my secret. 🤫
Daz, just because you've never needed a knife or a gun doesn't mean that there won't be a situation where being prepared would greatly help you. I've never experienced a house fire, but I still have a fire extinguisher or two just in case, because why not be prepared for situations that can happen to you.

I own guns for various reasons,. always will.
In grade school we would bring our hunting knives to school for show and tell. In High School we'd bring our fire arms (even full auto rifles) to school and trade with our friends for guns we hadn't shot before. NEVER any shootings. No gun murders. Almost ZERO violent crime. He gets some things right like a nail on the head but other things seem to kinda go over his head.
The People… Citizens are the rulers of this nation. The Second amendment is intended to keep it that way.

About 40% Americans own guns. But there are also 120 guns for every 100 people. Which means, the average gun owner owns 3 guns each.
That sounds about right I own exactly three guns. I have a Mossberg 12-gauge, Kel-Tec 9 mm and a Ukrainian Mosin Nagant with bayonet.
British came back in 1812 and the burned the White House down lol
You guys have the best commentary after the video.

It might be better to have American gun owners explain American gun culture.
That's all

The USA has over 20,000 gun laws.
Why is it that most videos on the USA are not made by one of us?!?!
Property is not just land.
Americans aren't peasants ... yet.

gun culture is tied to our desire to remain free, yes that means to own property and to safe keep it but also to repulse a foreinge invader. during ww2 admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was asked his view on a invasion of the u.s. his reponse “You cannot invade mainland United States.
Better to have a gun and not need it...than need it and not have it
You did come back! War of 1812 mates
Modern Gun ownership is not tied to owning property, though it used to be. Thats a very foreign and detached observation. Just because less people own land or own homes, doesnt mean gun ownership will trend down. Kraut was very far off here.
You did too come back in the war of 1812
You can live through getting shot, but being stabbed anyone can off ya easy.
Also, btw, the video is seriously confused about the American civil war. Private firearm ownership didn't power that, entire states rebelled. And yes the states are armed.
Wow someone is POSH and never had a real manual labor job, so now I get the office blokes title watching the minions work. Yes you need a knife at work if it is actual work. But still good video as usual Gents. It sounds like something Prince Harry would say as he summons the minion with the knife to open his box
Its even worse; Even worse; its a German pretending to have a posh brit accent to sound smarter. Kraut; formerly known as krautntea is a serial doxxer and harasser who has worked to cancel and attack people to the right of him. Do not assume anything he says or posts is in good faith.
It’s way than just this, but this is part of it.
no, guns wont go away if land ownership declines, you still need to defend yourself from violence and govment at some point
If that's the reason then you've totally failed as your government is more tyrannical than ever.

These types of videos always compare gun crimes, or violent crimes, to percentages of gun ownership. But never seem to mention, that criminals, don't get guns the legal way.
percent of gun ownership in my area is probaly close to 90%. And violent crime is close to zero.
But you guys did come back in 1812.
Because you invaded Canada
Just imagine if George would have just let the colonies have representation.🤔 Glad he didn't, but just imagine how different it would have been.
