I am SO HAPPY I found your site this morning. I’m planting slicers and pickle cucumbers today, CONTAINER GROW, it never crossed my mind, and your “too the point” pruning demo was Exemplary! Hit subscribe and thumbs up and adding you to my FAVORITES.
Thank you for explaining this so well! I have a cucumber plant that I just harvested 9 cucumbers from and wondered why some were smaller. Hope pruning helps it!!
That's what I did and now within a week It has grown and flowering, little cucumbers are showing. Same with my peppers. I also spray water with drop of alcohol in the area I cut out.
So Parthenocarpic cucumber varieties are self pollinate you don't have to pollinate them.. but others do need ..here is a video ua-cam.com/users/shortsoA9Fw6vgNUc?feature=share4
I’m growing one currently. It’s about 4 inches tall but the winds have been really strong. Should I be concerned about the wind snapping the stem? Any tips I could do to help my cucumber plant from being damaged by the wind.
Yes use a garden stake about 3 inches away from the plant and start to tie the plant towards the stick. Those gardens soft twist ties work pretty well.. depends on a variety of the tomato plant. I will at least use a 6 to 8 ft stake.. amzn.to/3KyCarN (Amazon #ad
Interesting how you grow in small containers. I over here stressing about 10 lbs n 20 lbs pot. Not really but. So many ways to grow food. New subscribers. M from Strong Island too 😊
Oh no sorry to hear... The weather is too hot. It could stress the plant out and slow down the production maybe.. Try to water every 2 days. Add fertilize every 2 weeks and give it a light pruning and prune off a couple lower leaves and give it some times it should be better
Growing cukes from seeds. Been up about 2 weeks and something has started eating the leaves. Didn't have this problem last year. Also, this year a major infestation of earwigs. Could they be the culprit?
Sorry to hear that every year your garden is there, it will attract more bugs naturally.. Normally Could be Cucumber beetles , Flea beetles, Aphids, Thrips, Pickleworms we got more too lol ..try mixing Soap and water and spray underneath the leaves in the evening time , or use neem oil spray .. Prune off the lower leaves and then not touching the soil too
@@Greentgarden Thank you so much! I grow mostly in 5 gallon buckets on my deck. Something sappy looking on my one zucchini leaf. Everything was looking so beautiful. So sad. I will do the dish soap as I have no neem. Thank you again!
Sorry to hear and you're welcome. Definitely try this soap and water. Do it in the evening time and make sure to spray in and need the leaves...you got this 🌱
I’ve not had any luck growing cucumbers in 8b zone and I believe it’s because it’s too hot here. Yesterday it was 91° with a feels like of 108°. The plants I’d planted withered away. I’m thinking I may need to grow them on my porch where they will get filtered sunlight but not direct, your thoughts?
So I open my greenhouse during the day so the bees can fly in and pollinate , Also, it's good to hand pollinate in the greenhouse just in case you don't have any bees.. these English type seedless cucumbers are self pollinate so that's one good thing
Oh nice ! And yes your right You could get tons of more fruit if you do not prune the only downfall is you grow more leaves. The plant takes a longer time to produce any harvest and you take up a lot of space.. So if you have time and you have space I definitely agree with you. You don't need to prune ...thank you for sharing this with us.. I appreciate it.. happy gardening 🌱
It's good you have cucumbers even starting from the bottom. Just make sure to harvest 6 inches , This would have plant. Will use more energy and grow the other smaller ones. Also it's good to prune off one to two lower leaves. More air flow better for the plant
Oh no sorry to hear.. cucumbers are breast grow in temperatures between (65-75°F) Make sure temperature is good. Do not over water and enough space.. are you growing in containers? Make sure to get food sunlights too
Thank you my friend , where I live I have a short garden season so I really don't grow much leaves. I try to get more furit the last time ! Pruning works amazing if you know how to prune .. You should try pruning. You will be amazed 🌱🙏🏾
It's definitely kind of small for two plants , but with some pruning it does produce pretty well... I actually grow two cucumber plants at a 5 gallon container once and they did decent too lol .. I always like to push the limits sometimes.. but definitely recommend bigger containers
Hmm, I was under the impression that the cadeledence leaves do not absorb energy from roots, rather provide it, and they die off once the plant can self sufficiently pull from elsewhere.
So this is what I think , All plants have to provide energy to the leaves. If the leaves do not get energy, it would not survive at all.. remember leaves.start small and then grow big. Where does it get the energy to grow or even stay alive.. thanks for sharing 🌱
Yes I totally agree with you.. These are some old pots I had for a long time and I can't have to throw them away unfortunately.. But I am investing in getting growing bags.. Thank you for sharing with us
I know , I do prune and I keep up with water fertilizer and I love to experiment.. will show you updates videos as the plants grow... Thanks for sharing 🌱
But the plant GETS its energy from photosynthesis, which is uses those leaves to perform. You’re talking about nutrients, not energy. That being said, you could just supplement more nutrients into your feeding.
Oh I can't lol it takes too long ,.growing much more leaves than fruit, also I have a short growing season, so trying to get the most out of it .. thanks for the feedback.. have a wonderful Sunday 🌱
No this is very wrong, those leaves you cut off would have supplied energy to the plant. You just literally stunted the plant. You can remove sucker's when growing the way you are but not leaves. Bad idea my man
I did that to my cucumbers last year and the plants took a nose dive afterwards. I do best to leave them alone. The leave above them started to die and the base of the stem turned yellow.
Sorry to hear that.. sounds like too much water ... Too much water could cost the root to rotten and turning yellow and stuff like that.. try to water every 2 to 3 days ...
First time pruning was explained in a way that made sense to me, thank you 👍
Glad it was helpful! 🌱🙏🏾
Don't do this.

Pruning does help! Also add some fertilizer every 1-2 weeks as a plants keep growing cucumbers...
@@Greentgarden we try to feed our plants every few weeks! I am hoping the plants make it for a while 😊

Can I do this with other plants
Yes pruning helps alot..
@@Greentgarden thankyou.
I stopped pruning and got way more than when I used to prune

Wish these had come across my page sooner. 😢 is that why I have a big fat cucumber at the base of my plant?

Can I do this to melons in pots?
Absolutely yes..
Only cucumbers this for?
I do this to lots of plants , cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers squash zucchini
My cucumbers (Gurken) dont grow at all in germany
Oh sorry to hear that .. Make sure to grow between these temperature best in temperatures between 75-85 °F
Oh sorry to hear that .. Make sure to grow between these temperature best in temperatures between 75-85 °F
How big of a container do you use?
This one is a 7 gallon .. I normally do 1 cucumber plant in a 5 gallon and works well
Mine always grow some leaves then die 😢
Oh no sorry to hear.. cucumbers are breast grow in temperatures between (65-75°F)
Make sure temperature is good. Do not over water and enough space.. are you growing in containers? Make sure to get food sunlights too
They are new leaves. It's needed. It gives energy and food to plant instead of taking energy.

Yep you got it 🌱
How about fallen the flower
After it pollinates, the flower will automatically fall off and that's normal. You could just compose them
Hmm, I was under the impression that the cadeledence leaves do not absorb energy from roots, rather provide it, and they die off once the plant can self sufficiently pull from elsewhere.
