Brilliant job mate, we are expecting this replica in Australia soon and will be looking to make it look worn. Won’t be able to do the other mods and we can’t get genuine MG parts in Australia.
Brilliant mate, liked it that much I bought one myself. Got a belt of 7.62. Doesn't look as flash as yours. Still fits though. Gotta tell ya, still got a fat that a cat couldn't scratch. Hey, only a historian or collector would understand. Thanks mate for your spot on video
Great job Ray and a great overview video. I have an AA sight on the way from Soldier of Fortune Militaria, I guess this is the modification they mention for the Denix. Do you need to groove the two front sight side posts to keep it secure? Any tips on exactly where and how to drill & pin the rear sight? Yours flips up so well. Thanks, Brett
Hi Brett, that's where I bought my sights S.O.F. the rear AA site if you remove small screw and drill end of the piece about 4mm from end with 1.5mm drill then use 1.5mm rod to join two parts.
@@RockinRAY Thanks for the lightning reply Ray. S.O.F. was a good choice then. :) Ok, about 4mm from the bottom through the thinner end part of the sight piece, 1.5mm bit. Where exactly is the hole drilled (from the top & front) thru the range markings housing so it can swivel like yours. Anything done to keep the front sight secure? Thanks, Brett
Is the front sight just held by the new post diameter? Can't seem to get a feed cover latch here in Australia but I figured out another way through the French guy's video. Though your modification is much better. Thanks again, Brett

Can you please post or send a pic of the underside of the top cover that shows the modifications you did to make the topcover latch to work. I just purchased one of these and can't for the life of me figure out why denix didn't just make the top cover able to open.
Im thinking if you have the belt in it but don't have a round in place where it would sit it should be ok to pull the bolt back and pull the trigger since a round won't be there.
Sorry no additional videos, the easiest way is knocking out top cover pin then filling tang that goes under end of reciever to just cause a friction catch then reinsert pin.
Mine arrives tomorrow. Its "aged" and the top cover opens so I'm guessing someone else has had a play fiddling with it. Be interesting to see what they've done and what I need to do to get it like yours 👍
That's brilliant work mate, what a difference that makes being able to open the top like that, best modifications I've seen, I've just bought the sten and want to get a steel Cocking handle but it says you need to modify the handle or sten for them to fit. I can't find any videos so I'm assuming it's the size of the hole in the bolt ? But I love what you've done there bud, are you far from Livingston lol 👍

I did the same, put part that holds trommel in bench vice and very gently squeeze the two clips that hold this in position until it accepts trommel. Be very carful and take your time its an alloy and can snap.
gun laws are very different in countrys, for example, here in Denmark we cant own any other weapons than bolt action rifles, so as a reenactor who wants this gun its very nice
Not at the moment mate. The reciever top needs cut back and filed down to let original slide lock move freely the large rounded screw head came from ebay .
Mines opens like the real one with original sliding catch. Some people just file back the lug to have a friction catch which works as well because finding original sliding catch is very hard.
How did you get this delivered to the uk? I got all my replicas from medieval shop but they no longer deliver to the uk since brexit. Would love to know. Thank you
What a nice modification of a nice replica and such stupid law's in Britain regarding this kind of replica or soft airguns. Here in Sweden anybody over 18 can buy a replica or softairgun.
The main problem with these replicas is the fact they are made of a Zinc alloy which cannot be blued and oxidizes pretty quickly. When weathering it, you can scratch the paint off a bit and expose a shiny layer of metal underneath that looks like steel, but it soon turns dull and dark and it is clear that it is in fact not steel. Therefore, if you want to make this look as realistic as possible, I would recommend to first do all the small modifications you want like this guy did in order to add detail and moving parts ect. After that, strip all the paint off the gun and polish it with steel wool until it has a glossy finish. Finally, spray-paint on a 'gun-blue' finish with a high quality paint of your choice. It won't be perfect and it will lack weathering but it will definitely look better and more realistic than it does out of the box or after a standard weathering job. If you want it to look more used, you're probably going to have to get a bit artistic. You can add some physical damage like scratches and dents easily because zinc is soft. If you want shiny spots where the finish has rubbed off you're going to have to paint that on too because like I said, doing it manually may look good long enough for a photo shoot but it will quickly turn dull and if you just keep scratching away at it then eventually the replica will begin to deform.
Fantastic job of making it look like a real vintage piece. Love how you made the finish look worn. !!
