While My Guitar Gently Weeps is still my favorite George’s song, but Something is just so special and a genius guitar solo too. Hi. That is a lovely song, Let Me Witness You ♥️
4:40 "Paul started playing a bass line that was a little elaborate and George told him: - No! I want it simple.- Paul complied." Funny. Paul's bass on Something is one of his most elaborate ever, making the song even more memorable for it. I guess George's wishes were forgotten by the time the album was completed. And rightly so. None of the cover versions of Something are as deeply melodic as the originial, and the bass line is the obvious reason why it's so.
I actually bought a bass (im mainly a guitarist and singer) just for the bass parts of something. something is a song in which everything is perfect. from the stunning chord progression, the simple but moving melody, the intense and chill endusing string arrangement, the drums that REALLY get the tension going at the key change and paul's incredible bass line. as someone who's played guitar for years, the bassline actually took a little while to get nailed down!
The way you gush over the beatles brings tears to my eyes. I love listening to ypur voice. And thanks for all the awesome beatles stories facts and content.
@@joeramirez709 I’m torn between all of you. Within You Without You (WYWY), Something, and While My Guitar Gently Weeps (WMGGW) are my top 3 George songs while he was with the Beatles. I guess if I really had to, I’d give the edge to WMGGW. Within You Without You has the unique eastern sound, and elaborates on very specific spiritual themes which I gravitate toward - interconnectedness, a focus beyond materialism, universal love, illusion of self. As someone who meditates and does psychedelics, it’s my version of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus, my spiritual anthem. The hook on Something is so epic and heartfelt, as well as more singable, but I have admit the verse can be a little slow and its scope (lovers, as heartfelt as they may be) lack the spiritual gravitas of the other two. WMGGW lacks Within You’s specificity and is more vague in its lamentation. But it also gets things cooking faster than the other two, is singable, and its spiritual message is much more relatable to most people, I think. It combines the relatable epicness of Something with the transcendence of WYWY, so if I really had to pick one I’d go with WMGGW. But gratefully, we don’t have to choose!
all too much was weirdly amazing too even the lyrics had depth because it was about a lot of things, drugs, george's spiritual journey, and of course a relationship breakup and the overall tune and the fucking intro just it's really underrated
When I was 5 yrs. old my mom insisted that I come and watch Ed Sullivan's show as there would be a new band from England on. So I did and ever since that night I have been one of their biggest fans. I'm 63 now and my kids think I'm crazy, but I still love the Beatles, individually, and as a group!
Something stands alone as an amazing track by George. But, if I'm honest with myself on what moves me the most musically, it's Paul's work on the album. "You Never Give Me Your Money, Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight and The End are like a combo punch to the feels. There are times when Paul sounds so sad in his vocal performance. Amazing.
@Stephen John Parker Thanks for sharing that Stephen. George's songs obviously resound strongly with you. When I hear the short guitar intro from Something, it always brings a smile. The solo is an instant classic as well. It's such a well crafted song.
Though I prefer George's songs on Abbey Road, these songs by McCartney that you mentioned (I will also include Oh Darling! and Golden Slumber) are superb

@@chipgaasche4933 you are right about the six drum hits as the 4 beat of the count in measure. Also, Patrick is right because the one beat on the following measure anticipates the intro guitar, so there are seven drum notes before the melody begins, even though the band starts on the last one.
Chip Gaasche i guess i'm not explaining it right, because it's not weird, it's very straightforward. Ringo plays 6 notes on the 4 beat then a single downbeat before the guitar lick.

Just saw Paul "cover" Something in Tokyo. He always did as a ukulele version, but this tour it blows into a full, amazing arrangement. For all the talk of their discord during the final years, it is clear from both the original and Paul's latest version there was a great deal of love and respect of the work they did. Nothing was just slapped together, and even though the bass part on the original may have been simple, the tune cannot be heard in any version without that same bass part.
There's a great recording of George composing "Something," and he has the first part of the first line: "Something in the way she moves attracts me like....," but he didn't have the end. John told him to sing "attracts me like a cauliflower," and George said what about "attracts me like a pomegranate." These guys were on another level.
I’ve seen the Las Vegas show “Love” and even though there were many impressive visuals and stunts and everything else, the dance for Something is what I remember the most.
As a long time bass player and big admirer of McCartney, I agree with your sentiment. The bass lines in "Something" are far from simple. From what I understand/heard before, (may have been a McCartney interview somewhere), McCartney was so impressed by the song, he basically "stood back" and let George lead the way. But I don't remember anything to the effect that George told Paul to "keep it simple" after hearing his original bass idea(s). Needles to say, what McCartney ended up playing on the final track was pretty iconic and creative.
"Let me witness you" is a great song! Congrats, man! I'm also a musician, singer and songwriter and I was very impressed with your song!! Send some more!
Your song is absolutely beautiful. I love the whole concept of witnessing someone that you love. Very clever. Thank you for the privilege of enjoying your music!
No mention of James Taylor recording "Something in the Way She Moves" for Apple Records in 1968 and inspiring George to write his own song based on that line...
Harrison song, finally!!!! Great video. Something is one of the best songs on the album. There is no number one on that album. There are way too many great songs on there. Definitely, the most beautiful love song. You're so in love that you're talking about your love to a third person, not the person themselves. You're so enthralled that your feelings, through words are pouring out further than just you and your love. That's beautiful.
He didn’t wrote many songs as a Beatle member, but just look at this “You gonna loose that girl”, “think for yourself”, “I need you”, “taxman”, “Whiten you without you”, “love you to” and of course the three masterpieces. That’s enough for being one of the greatest!
You will never see that again. 3 DOMINATE SINGER SONGWRITERS IN THE SAME GROUP. Ringo did well also. I think all 4 were on the top 40 chart at the same time wow.
I believe that in the “Let It Be” film, Paul told George how to play lead guitar (“Too complicated George”). Things like this from Paul bothered George a lot. For George to finally be able to tell Paul what to do in one of the Beatles last recording sessions (for Abbey Road), must have been very satisfying.
I played this on my acoustic guitar and it has such a wow factor. It’s easy to be familiar with this song but the genius of it made it feel like hearing it for the first time.
I saw McCartney in concert in New York last year, and I have a cousin who is very close with the McCartney family. At the concert, before he played “Something,” he told the story about George introducing it to him. He said that George wrote the song using a ukulele. Paul then played the song on his ukulele.
Many people forget Georges first hit song "Don't bother me". If you listen to it you will see what I mean. And that song get very little recognition. At that time John and Paul wrote every song. Then Paul encourages George to write a song, He's like "Yeah right". So he goes into his room and comes out with this masterpiece "Don't bother me".

Lovely and enlightening anecdotes and background on perhaps the most beautiful song in the Beatles canon. That said, I'm a sucker for Oh Darling! Blows me away, and have to say its my favourite Abbey Road cut! :)
Lovely personal song by the presenter, with intricate chord dynamics, appearing after the Something discussion. Beautifully written and sung. I like the stereo split of the acoustic...it's very simple arrangement, with one more instrument coming in toward the end. :) I also like the it is hard to pin down any other influences than its own. :) Nice gift in conjunction with George's...
Perfect treatment of the story of a perfect recording. Thanks as always for your insightful research. I am equally impressed with your honest and transparent take on love. The idea that love is an opportunity to witness someone is brilliant and brings forth an aspect of love we often don't consider, as we act like humans and take things for granted. You have blessed us with your song, and your father has blessed us through it.
I had to go listen specifically to the bass line after watching this. It is simple in parts, but decorative in others and in total frames the song beautifully, as do George Martin's strings and Paul's harmonies at the end. It's a great song, but I give the nod to 'here comes the sun' as my favorite George composition.
Your dad is a wise man. I do think that “Something” is one of the ultimate greatest love songs in all music history. By the way, you’re a great singer songwriter yourself! Thanks for sharing your music, too!
Really nice video, I wouldn't be sure about Something being the best song on the album, but I can say for sure that it is my favorite. Also, I don't see any comments about your song, "Let Me Witness You" , and I'm kinda disappointed about that, since It's a beautiful song. Loved the video and the song!
I agreed george has its own way of genuine touches of guitar riffs, melodies, original guitar manueverings which is distinct from others. He is my favorite beatle member because of his honesty.
I would agree. "Here Comes The Sun" is probably my favorite George song. My other favorites on Abbey Road would be "Because," "I Want You (She's So Heavy)," and the "Golden Slumbers" medley. And then "Something."
You realize that's John, Paul and George trading licks every few seconds, right? I don't remember the order, but I think it's Paul-John-George (a few times?) and ends with John. I used to know these details a little better.
I've just watched a few of your Beatles / your song vids, I like both segments. I think you have more of a Paul Simon vibe, while still sounding like yourself. well done.
Four parts of the song stand out to me. Starr's drum tracks are unique and fitting to the material. Paul's bass patterns are a perfect underscore to the lyrics. George's melodic solo and Martin's smooth string arrangement. An amazing accomplishment.
George opened his heart and soul! And out poured Something! To me it is The Perfect Song Ever Written! The melody, the structure of the chord arrangement, and then there is the Beautiful vocals of George lovely expressing his adornment with Her...who ever she might be! Brilliantly done...and then there is the solo, Robert Cray said it was his most favorite guitar solo ever written! I would have to agree with him whole heartedly...simply put ...With "Something" You/We have the most honest and beautiful love song ever written. Tid bit more...when listening to the vocals, one cannot deny the anguish, and raw plea,in the the vocal stance,as if George is really laying his heart on the line.and when he sings those heart felt words one can really feel his emotional outcry of infinite love..... God bless George!
Listen to the harmonies and bass lines. McCartney has his fingerprints all over that song. One of the best Beatles songs ever. It makes you wonder how the three most prolific songwriters of a generation could come together at the same place at the same time...

How I became an instant Beatles fan; I was heading towards a schoolmates room during our senior trip. When I opened the door, this song was playing when I looked at her and I fell for her and the Beatles instantly.
It's a really great song. Not my favorite, but a really strong composition. As a George H. fan, it is great that on their last album, George hit it out of the ballpark with both Something and Here Comes the Sun.
It is a fabulous song. and I think John and Paul were genuinely appreciative of it, me too it would be in my top 10 Beatles songs ever and so would Here comes the sun.
Although George apparently wrote most of it, it was really a collaborative effort attributed to George (listen to the You Tube recording of the band working on the song and you will hear the contributions of John and Paul).

The idea that love is an opportunity to witness someone is brilliant and brings forth an aspect of love we often don't consider, as we act like humans and take things for granted. You have blessed us with your song, and your father has blessed us through it.
Let Me Witness You is beautiful! Thank you!
That is a beautiful song you have created.
I had to go listen specifically to the bass line after watching this. It is simple in parts, but decorative in others and in total frames the song beautifully, as do George Martin's strings and Paul's harmonies at the end. It's a great song, but I give the nod to 'here comes the sun' as my favorite George composition.
A fabulous song and the Beatles a genious band !!!!
3:08 Lennon getting some idea
3:35 Lennon transforming
I agreed george has its own way of genuine touches of guitar riffs, melodies, original guitar manueverings which is distinct from others. He is my favorite beatle member because of his honesty.
The Bass and drums on Something and Come together for that matter are Geniuse
To me "here comes the sun" is the best song on the album
Same, and the fact that it also was writen by George just shows what a genious he was.
I would agree. "Here Comes The Sun" is probably my favorite George song. My other favorites on Abbey Road would be "Because," "I Want You (She's So Heavy)," and the "Golden Slumbers" medley. And then "Something."
@@chrisdelisle3954 "The End" is one of my favorites from Abbey Road. The solo at the end is no doubt one of Georges best solos.
You realize that's John, Paul and George trading licks every few seconds, right? I don't remember the order, but I think it's Paul-John-George (a few times?) and ends with John. I used to know these details a little better.
@@chrisdelisle3954 Not sure we're talking about the same solo. I'm talking about the short one at the very end.
Something is in my top 5 Beatles songs
I've just watched a few of your Beatles / your song vids, I like both segments. I think you have more of a Paul Simon vibe, while still sounding like yourself. well done.
Four parts of the song stand out to me. Starr's drum tracks are unique and fitting to the material. Paul's bass patterns are a perfect underscore to the lyrics. George's melodic solo and Martin's smooth string arrangement. An amazing accomplishment.
Great video, and your song is equally beautiful .
It's one of the best Beatles songs period. Like top ten for sure.
*adoration for
Listen to the harmonies and bass lines. McCartney has his fingerprints all over that song. One of the best Beatles songs ever. It makes you wonder how the three most prolific songwriters of a generation could come together at the same place at the same time...

Very nice; both the historical review and the gorgeous original.
something is my favorite beatles song ever
How I became an instant Beatles fan;
I was heading towards a schoolmates room during our senior trip.
I literally screamed when I saw this. I love the song so much I comment n like this video before watching it haha
Although George apparently wrote most of it, it was really a collaborative effort attributed to George (listen to the You Tube recording of the band working on the song and you will hear the contributions of John and Paul).
that clip sounds like they were goofing with him, they didn’t give him anything he used to finish the song but it is facinating to listen to.
Love that song!!! The bass to that was phenomenal and Paul toned it down a bit 😳
That last song a bit faster is a Beatles Track in the making, well done it’s brilliant xx 👍
