- Is it possible to go from new golfer to single-figure handicapper in less than 18 months? That’s what I’m looking to do in 2025, and in this video I’m going to share the six things that I think will get me there.

Is it possible to take up golf late in life and still make it on tour? I’m embarking on a mission to go from golf rookie at 40 to tour pro at 50, doing everything I can to get good enough, quickly enough to qualify for the Legends Tour.
Follow my journey as I try to understand what drives sustainable improvement in golf, how quickly that improvement can come, and if this mad endeavour is even feasible.
Welcome to my Golf Life Crisis.
I subscribed because I feel like I'm in a very similar boat as your are in many of the things you spoke of. Im aiming for single digits this year as well. Lets get it!!! 💪💪💪
Thanks - best of luck 💪
I have the same exact goal. I’ve swung golf clubs my whole life, but I never got serious about learning, until last year. I went from a 28 handicap, currently at 15 handicap. My goal is under a 10 handicap by May This year. I go to a trackman facility multiple days a week. I also have a coach. I would recommend going to a trackman facility. The amount of data you get is the best that’s available. Right now I’m focused on my attack angle and my club path. Those are the basic elements of the swing and I think once you dial those in everything else starts to get more fine-tuning.
Nice work, very best of luck with it.
Well played fella. Got some similar goals there 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you!
Old school ethics is still king to lower scores
Play with a low handicap senior and just watch
Good call - hoping to get to a Legends Tour event this season to see those guys in action live.
Interesting channel - had a chuckle when you talked about being very old when taking up the game. I started playing in late 2023 and joined a golf club as I turned 52 and was recovering from a mountain bike crash that put me in hospital for a while with broken ribs and various other injuries. It was one of the only sports I could actually do at the time with the physical restraints I had. The golf bug then got me and I got a handicap of 24 in February. Set myself a goal to get to 15 by end of year and as of today am actually down to 14. Goal for 2025 is to get as low into single digit handicap as I can. I have just bought a shot scope v5 to help and plan on taking some lessons early this year too, particularly to improve my iron play. I guess we will see if an even older bloke than you can go from beginner to single digit handicap in 18 months too.
Amazing progress 💪 Thanks for the support, and very best of luck with it in 2025. Let me know how you get on!
Funny how the habit starts eh… mine was recovery too… I ruptured my Achilles at 40 and needed an excuse to walk more. My physio thought being an ex baseballer it’d help take my mind off the leg and golf would be a good distraction from getting some steps, strength and stability on uneven ground.
He wasn’t wrong, addicted since then 👍🏻 certainly a sport for life ❤
@@pottsyweb - yep, it’s definitely my sport for life now. Ironically the mountain biking only started 3 years ago for me to allow me to pre-hab and then help re-hab a hip replacement that I had 2 years ago when I was 50. Basically have worn my hips out from playing squash and other sports. At the time golf was one of the highly recommended sports in the recovery process - I should have taken it up straight away. I was never a fan or tempted to play over the years, who knew it could be so addictive!
Wish you luck. I have been at a 13 for years and have done much of what you are trying. Braking though the 80's is difficult.
Thank you - you too! Been agonisingly close to breaking 80 a few times now, so 🤞 it’s not far off.
I can't tell you which clubs to carry in your conditions, but my advice as a 12 handicap player, I would drop the 4 iron and get more wedges. Keep up the good work, and you will succeed.
Thank you!
I use arcoss. I logged roughly 40rds into arcoss last year. I played a total of 48 rounds. sitting at an 11.4 handicap. 2025 goals - break 80, single digit handicap, 110mph club head speed, play 60rounds.
Nice - those are great goals. Tracking and improving my clubhead speed is something I definitely need to tackle at some point this year.
Going through same changes as you. I found a net with no ball or just a foam ball was helpful. No golf ball. Just took that diatraction away.
Good call. And best of luck with your changes 🤞
Tom Watson has a good instructional video and talks about pointing the knees at each other, keeping tension in the lower body helps to stop over turning and lateral movement.
Oh nice, thanks - I’ll try and find it
What dry shampoo do you use for club face strike?
It's called Batiste: www.batistehair.com/
I just get it from Amazon
Collecting data is a really good idea. I've got a Shotscope X5 but slightly prefer the data Arccos gives you so use that now. Both systems will show you a lot though. Biggest thing to remember with tracking is to be brutal about tracking every time you say you're going to. The temptation is to scrap a tracked round if it starts to go really badly but unless you track the bad as well as the good, things like Strokes Gained are totally useless.
Just curious but from what you've said in vids I'm guessing you're down Oxford way, went to Uni there many moons ago. What's your home club?
Btw guessing you read my very long comment to your first vid as you commented on posts after it. Was deleted as it was really just for you to read rather than general consumption.
Absolutely guilty of doing that - need to stay the course much better with the shot tracking in 2025!
@@GolfLifeCrisis And the home club? What club are you based at? Curious to see where you train and what facilities they have.
Whittlebury Park, near Silverstone. Decent range, and a short course, although no short game facilities.
@@GolfLifeCrisis Have never played there but have regularly driven past it when my wife was still at Uni in Oxford and I was in training at RAF Cranwell. Looks like a really good venue. I'm also at an England Golf Championship Venue, I'm at The National Academy at Woodhall Spa. Until this last September both short game areas there were for coaching and national squads only but one is now open to members which has made a huge difference. I'd guess that short course at Whittlebury will come in very useful for practice on and around the greens. It's not the be all and end all but having good facilities will certainly help with your challenge.
