The reason biscoff reminds you of speculoos is because... that's what it is 😁 in Belgium we tend to eat Lotus Speculoos with bread and dipped in coffee. Tasty, but not really practical. Some enterprising mom got a good idea. Why not make it into a spread? She came up with her own recipe and submitted it for a TV competition, The Inventors. Sure enough, she ended up among the finalists! Afterwards she worked closely with the Lotus team to fine-tune the recipe. Which is what you know as biscoff spread now 😊.
Biscoff is getting popular here in Australia, too :) I bought a tub a while ago, although I should be eating it :P Another fine thing to come from Belgium. Along with Beer, chocolates, frites (why did the Yanks give the French credit for that delicacy?) and Ardennes ham :D
@Philippien thank you for specifying, actually in Flanders we use both terms interchangeably depending on the region you are in 🤷🏻♀️. For me and my family at least they all mean the Lotus type which the biscoff spread is made off.
@@MeakisTV @Elke Smets Nowadays it's used interchangeably, but the origins seem to be somewhat separated where speculoos used simpler ingredients as the spices where too expensive in Belgium at the time. But it appears Biscoff uses the spice blend, which at least makes it similar to Dutch (original) speculaas.
Sharla, you make England look so good that I can’t wait to visit there!! And then I realise I’ve lived here all my life haha. Sharla, can you make a video about eating 🍤🍜 gluten-free 🍞🥐 in Japan? I really, really, REALLY want to visit, but I'm nervous about finding food that I can eat. It seems like most of the food you find out and about in Japan has wheat in it 😬 Also, for what it's worth, make sure to listen to YOUR body above anything else. There are people with thyroid issues** who don't tolerate gluten, but there are also those who tolerate it just fine. Your body will let you know when you reintroduce it into your diet. For the clearest info, I recommend eliminating the allergen strictly for 4-6 weeks, then doing a challenge and observing how you feel for the day or two after. Hope that helps! **Mostly people with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's or Graves' Disease), not necessarily folks with a history of thyroid cancer.

If you like Biscoff, you should try Biscoff cheesecake. It’s my first time making it for Christmas and just tried the filling (it’s a no bake version) and it’s soooo good! Now I’m just waiting for it to set overnight and putting the Biscoff cookie butter as the topping. It can be made vegan too.

2:40 such a great Pete Chris does here. 🙂
My life is such a mess right now 😮💨 But I’m so enjoying seeing how these two spending Christmas holidays together ❤
Lovely vid! If you are still in the area- do check out "The Pound", "Bramleys" and "The Unicorn" pub if you are on a night out. They are my go-tos when in Canters. All the best.
i had the exact same experience and reaction. years ago, hopping into lidl in wembley and discovering brussel sprouts grow on stalks, like... what?? i kinda always assumed they just come straight out of the soil or something lol. here in germany you get them loose in a little net. i was really stunned haha.
Yay Natsuki :) Hello Sharla and Chris. Wishing you and your family and friends a Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year. Same to Maro and Tuna too.
Merry Christmas!! 🎄❤
I can't say it enough, you two are so cute together! Merry Christmas!
Hope you guys had a fun time and wonderful Christmas . So many hidden secrets in Canterbury, love living here. Those fresh donuts on the market are amazing!
ahahah the movie section with Natsuki was amazing. Really enjoying this vlogmas!
Chris looks so good with glasses
Merry Christmas Sharla and Chris! Glad you got those glasses - travelling without any sounds like a nightmare. And they look really good on you, as do Chris's on him! Edit: oh, and if your Dutch grandparents grew up anywhere near the countryside, they should be familiar with Brussels sprouts on stalks! Aren't they utterly wild, though? 😅
😆 Yes brussel sprouts are actually much better if you keep them on the stock before you use them. Only a few places sell them that way here.
Speculaas and Dutch almond patties are staples at Christmas in my family. I always look forward to our family gatherings, mostly for the food, and introducing my non Dutch husband to Dutch goodies 😂
Chris not being allowed in the video after the “ aloe Vera tissue incident “ classic 😂 also hopefully 🤞 he gets good presents 🎁 no pressure 🙏
I love how Chris is with Sharla. I hope they’re happy.
Happy Christmas to you both! I’m really glad that you are enjoying your stay in the U.K. Sharla. And that you got to check out both Gregg’s and M&S. No matter where you are in the world, retail therapy is always good! Looking forward to the next instalment already.
This looked like so much fun, but I will say... everybody looked SO tired by this point in the trip, during various parts of the video. When Pete was hosting the party, for example, looked like he hadn't slept in at least 2 weeks straight. I hope you guys were able to get some rest while you've been in England
Still find it weird to see you doing videos in the UK, especially places I know, but loving the videos all the same! Hope you both have a lovely Christmas!
This is such a lovely vlog! We like going to Canterbury for holidays and stay at a lodge site outside of the city. It's so lovely there! It's really nice to see a place you know through the eyes of someone new 🥰
Wishing you a wonderful Christmas!
14:53 That look of thunder 😂
HI Sharla!! Merry Christmas 🎄 I love your glasses. Im so happy you decided to share your holiday with us. I really love that you get to spend it with Chris, you guys are really sweet together ♥ I love to see all his friends and your friends on UA-cam and I wouldn’t have gotten to know any of them if it wasnt for you two so thank you for that 😊 you all rock separately, and are amazing together 🥰 I hope you have a safe and happy New Year!!
That Brussels sprout thing got me sooo good!! 😂 I did the exact same thing the other day. Idk how I thought they grew but not like that
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Safe travels and thanks again for sharing your year in Japan, US and England with us this Christmas!
