    Thank you so much for this video on growing summer savory. I've grown this in the past and I need to grow this again next year. We use this in a butternut squash soup recipe and it's unique flavor is wonderful. Another fantastic video Donna.

    I am having great success with this herb growing it for the first time this season. I scattered the seeds directly onto the prepared and watered soil surface of a large pot outdoors after frost danger had passed. Right now I have a large billowy mass of hundreds of plants in there, in the pre-flower stage just about ready to cut. The crowding has NOT inhibited them, and the leaves are super fragrant. I am in zone 6b. If I had to individually start this kind of thing in cells and then harden off I would lose my mind. I take the same approach with basil and marjoram with outstanding results. Just use a plastic bag or cover of some kind if needed in the early stages to spur germination, but mostly not necessary. Results may vary depending on your zone.

    I have winter savory growing and never knew how to use it! Now I know. I’m assuming it’s the same flavor and uses as Summer Savory? Love your videos. Tfs. 👏🏻💕👏🏻👏🏻

      I have not tried winter savory, but I read it has a different, more bitter, flavor. Let us know when you try it?

    There is always a little bit of sand in the dried savory. Do you know how to solve that? Something like sifting but not loosing the small bits of the savory as well.

    Your first tip was to not reuse potting mix and to use specific seed starting soil. Miracle Gro has something called Seed Starting potting mix - could I ask if this is useful?

      Oh my! I am just not sure. I actually make my own to be sure of limited pathogens which can kill seedlings. Check out my channel for DIY Seed Starting mix.

    Hi, how would you compare the taste of Winter Savoury to that of Summer Savoury and does it spread like Thyme does ?

  • @geriannroth449

    Hi would you say savoury is similar to thyme in flavour & scent & it's easier to grow?

    • @RainbowGardens
      @RainbowGardens  3 роки тому +1

      It taste similar to a cross between thyme and oregano. However, since summer savory is not a perennial where I live, and both thyme and oregano are, I consider them to be easier to grow.

      @@RainbowGardens ok thanks here in the Caribbean they grow indefinitely providing the soil does not get too wet then they will get root rot & a mildew on their leaves & die. But lots of people find that thyme is a bit problematic to grow so someone recommended savoury as an alternative. So the only body i could rhink of asking about this new herb to me, is you since you always seem to have rhis wealth of knowledge to share not only about cooking but gardening of the tings that go in de pot too!!
