- This lesson covers a technique for picking the guitar licks in the intro of "There Goes Another Love Song", by the Outlaws. I also discuss the approach I use to figure out licks and determine how the licks were probably played. NOTE: I just realized I played these licks in reverse order. Lick 2 is supposed to be 1 and 3. The lick played on 1 and 3 in the video is supposed to be lick 2.......sorry for any confusion.
Well done, one of my favourite bands. Nice of you to honnor them.
Outstanding, thank you. One of the best Southern rock bands ever. It the reason why people learn to play guitar. Thanks for adding to the arsenal!
Hughie Thomasson was one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Saw the original lineup of the band about a year after first album released. It seemed effortless to him to do blistering runs with pristine clarity. I seriously miss this kind of music.
Well done video my friend 👍👍
Agree with you about Hughie. 👍
Fantastic breakdown of a song by the greatest southern rock bands ever. RIP Billy and Hughie. I think Billy wrote this song. I have most if not all their albums and play them often. I also play guitar and have struggled with these lead riffs so THANKYOU!
I always liked the Outlaws guitarists over Skynards.., I’m glad I got to see Hughie, Billy and Henry live.., great show of guitar pickin’ and rockin’ !
Absolutely agree 👍
You have a great ear for figuring out these parts. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Great! I could have figured this out, but your videos saved me a couple of hours! Thanks.
Dude…….you just made my entire life! I just realized this is the lick I’ve been looking for all my life. I’m gonna master this and never play the guitar again! After this lick there is nothing left to accomplish that I want. This video just put it all together for me. Everything I’ve been missing, everything I’ve spent 1000s of hours playing scales over and over and getting nowhere. Hating everything that comes out of my fingers. This was a revelation man! You lifted that 20! Wall of quitting because it gets boring. I literally have a purpose again and nothing left to prove to myself after I master this video. Thank you man! No joke, I’m not busting your balls or being a dick. I sincerely mean that! It was the outlaws, and your video! That’s the missing link for me. This is seriously a spiritual moment for me! Thanks man!
And just a side note I noticed. It’s just a super pimped up, Sweet Home Alabama. It’s my favorite guitar riff ever and now I know why. It’s just tossing in an F instead of a D and some fancier picking. Is that what they call chicken pickin’?
👍👍👍. Also check out more of this song here ua-cam.com/video/rGTU-jmwyzc/v-deo.html
One of my favorite songs for guitar, and you figured it out! Amazing, and Thank you.
Awesome tutorial, loved the “guitar army” Outlaws!!
Nice, thank you! Great instruction & pace.
Good playing, good sound!
I always thought this intro sounded a little better slightly slower not as slow as teaching mode of course but when you slow the tempo down a bit those licks really shine better,
Great tutorial I enjoyed it nice playing
i know a lot more licks than i did when i came in. thanks man
Excellent thanks
Thank you so very much for doing this tutorial and sharing it with us all. Brilliant explanation about hybrid picking too. Can’t wait to get trying this one. This is so much appreciated, thank you! 🌠🌅🌌🕊
So glad you find it useful! Thank you!!!
AH HA!..an E note at 2:03. Who knew? (played a high G 30yrs..LOL) Sounds right now. Your right about the middle finger open E cause it sounds "plucked". Good lesson !. Need to get that 4-2 bwd SL in there as well.I was just fudgin another 2-0 PO there..LOL Thanks!
Thx for the great lesson!
Check out Tom’s version of
“It’s a Long Way there”
.., it’s just great
Thx 👍😎
The nice thing about this lick is that there are a lot of options playing over first position chords with open strings for players that use a thumb pick to alternate pick/finger pick. Scruggs style picking lends itself nicely to this tune.
I'd love to know how you got that nice tone - I've been experimenting with a T-Rex Diva Drive and a Nobels ODR-1.
I'm playing through a boss gt-001. Also some of that tone is the vintage noiseless pickups
thank you for the lesson. Can you tell me about you tone? ie are you using the bridge pick up only etc
No doubt Hughie was a underrated guitar slinger and a true master of a stratocaster good lesson
He was so good..stood 4 feet from him at 3rd show on the reunion...he was lightning quick, never missed, and rarely even looked at the fretboard...his eyes closed, or fluttered..He was just a natural...
As a picker he inspired me and I would say he was maybe the best that’s ever been
Definitely in my top 5- criminally underappreciated..He was 1/2 Roy Buchanan, 1/2 Jimi Hendrix..could play it pretty & melodic, or downright filthy.
Do you have or can you do a video for the Solo of FOGHAT "SLOW RIDE" or "FOOL FOR THE CITY"
Yes I cover fool for the city here. ua-cam.com/video/-S9Z3bLQUgM/v-deo.html
I sell a lesson for it on my website. I love foghat and want to do more
