I don't think anyone will read this, but here it goes. This is my all time favorite hymn, and it has been ever since I was introduced to it by my seminary teacher. It brings me to tears each time I listen to it, and whenever I'm in a tough situation where I feel hopeless, my mind goes back to this song. Now today, it applies more than ever. The world seems to be falling apart. So many, including me, have felt hopeless or do feel hopeless, yet, this song reminds me to this day that it's all the Lords will, and that whether we see it or not, it's for the best. When I listen to this, I feel like the savior is right next to me telling me "Peace, be still".
It is also mine. When I was a child (I am 72 now) in the days of Fellowship Teas and large Sunday Schools this was my request at every opportunity. The crescendo “whether the wrath of the storm tossed sea” and the following Peace Be Still never failed to bring this little child, who incidentally was blessed with rarely a storm tossed sea, such passion. For me, rediscovered in these uncertain times.
Master the tempest is raging! The billows are tossing high! The sky is o’er shadowed with blackness; No shelter or help is nigh; Carest Thou not that we perish? How canst Thou lie asleep, When each moment so madly is threatening, A grave in the angry deep. CHORUS “The winds and the waves shall obey My will, Peace be still! Whether the wrath of the storm-tossed sea, Or demons, or men, or whatever it be, No water can swallow the ship where lies, The Master of ocean and earth and skies; They all shall sweetly obey my will, Peace, be still! Peace be still! They all shall sweetly obey My will, Peace, peace be still!” Master with anguish of spirit, I bow in my grief today; The depths of sad hearts are troubled; O, waken and save I pray! Torrents of sin and of anguish, Sweep o’er my sinking soul; And I perish! I perish dear Master; O hasten, and take control. Master, the terror is over, The element sweetly rest; Earth’s sun is in the calm lake is mirrored, And heaven’s within my breast; Linger O blessed Redeemer, Leave me alone no more; And with joy I shall make the blest harbor, And rest on the blissful shore.

I never thought my optimism would ever fail me. That being said, I’ve found myself praying everyday that this world would end. I read the accounts in 3 Nephi of the destruction of the great cities of evil and pray it will happen again. I’m not afraid of dying, I’m weary of knowing how much evil is here
There is such tempests in the world now. I feel great sorrow as Lehi did in his vision for the state of the world. God gives me peace even when nothing else is.
I am Christian, although more Charismatic, and this is really pretty. I certainly don't agree with a lot of your beliefs but this song is very pretty, wonderful organ playing!
This song has memories for me. I am 91 so my memories are old! I was Presbyterian but during my high school years I would go with friends to young people's class and then church in the evening at the Church of Christ that was close to our neighborhood During the class and church, too, they would ask for requests for songs. This song, Peace Be Still, was not in the Presbyterian hymnal, and very often I would request it. A lot of the kids hated it because it was long but I enjoyed every word. I sing it to myself often and when I found this rendition of the Mormon Tabernacle choir singing it, I had to listen and record it. I've been in that church when we visited a nephew in Salt Lake City, and it is so GRAND. The organist was rehearsing when we were there at noon and I enjoyed every note. The nephew had evening plans for us so we didn't get to hear the choir practice. I like it with or without accompaniment. During this covid mess I have not been to church and oh, do I miss it. My Dr. says I should get vaccine soon, so then I'll go - wherever they are having services, and I'll sing and praise God and love every minute. I'm no longer Presbyterian, but I can be blessed by attending any church service where they believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Now I'm going to listen to this again.
