Maybe because people don't get nostalgic when they hear them? Perhaps they don't have any family history surrounding the bagpipes? I mean, sure, I do myself, but I don't get all nostalgic. It sounds... Well, absolutely horrible. Alone, that is. There needs to be more instruments playing. Not just one bagpipe. Otherwise it sounds like shit.
You have this fantastic piper obviously a graduate of the army piping school, and your talking rings and children, but give the wee laddie a hug please, he made me laugh.
I like the background on the left which portrays the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders holding the "Thin Red Line" against a cavalry attack during the battle of Balaklava. I love the history of the British Army.
I am from Germany, but i always loved the Bagpipes. Touches my inner Strings like no other Music does. I must have some Celtic Blood in my Veins. Fantastic Piping , thanks very much for uploading
I remember when i was younger cartoons would depict bag pipes as horrible sounding torture devices. But then when i heard a bag pipe being played in person i realized how fucking sweet these things sounded. They sound so different and epic then any other intrument on Earth
people need to stop hatong on the bagpipes. if they don't like it then they can shut up and go somewhere else. granted, you can hear a bag pipe from miles away, but still. and i have found that me and all my friends with Scottish heritage seem to have an ear for the pipes. the pipes seem to strike something in us that just screams "home".
He's good and play very well !! I'm from Brittany and i love our celtic music ! Each year, all the celtic nations come over here and it's simply magic !!!!
The first tune is the 6-part hornpipe "The Clumsy Lover", composed by Neil Dickie. It's followed by 2 jigs - "Paddy's Leather Britches" which is traditional, and "The Seagull" by P.M. Donald McLeod.
P/M Donald MacLeod has written many competition level bagpipe tunes that are still played by plenty of pipe bands and a number of soloists, to this day. Plenty of his works are pretty damn good, in my opinion.
2006breakmyballs Contemporary music always largely sucks. Folk music and traditional tunes are good only because they are the handful of songs from their day that were actually good enough for people to preserve.
Hi, I really appreciate the bagpipes. It always reminds me of my trip to Scottland few years ago which is one of the most beautiful countries I have been to for a long time. I wonder if anyone of you could suggest me a book or video or whatever where I can read more about playing techniques, range, notation, etc… I am really into it and I would like to take a deeper look and maybe write a composition for pagpipes sooner or later, just for my own exercise. Thank you in advance, any help would be greatly appreciated. Have a good day
I swear I have a picture of this same fellow when we saw him play in Edinburgh as well! He wasn't at the castle but I think the high street area. He is really good!
+Swamp Fox - Piping is actually great for some respiratory problems. Really expands your lungs. I had asthma and played since I was nine and my friend had cystic fibrosis and the doctors credited it for helping keep her alive (she died at @ 27). It would likely improve your respiratory health.
asthma can be on different levels, like if my friend Iona was to play the bagpipes she would most probably have a massive asthma attack. However, it can be different.
My brother and I filmed this same piper on our trip to Edinburgh in 2010 also! Didn't see him in 2014 when we were back to attend the International Clan Gathering of the MacGregors....
I thought this piper looked familiar... he went Goth and joined Celtica! You should see him now. He sports a Mohawk hair style. Quite a change from this fully traditional Scottish look. Take a listen to Celtica, they ROCK!
I don't understand why people dislike the sound of bagpipes. I get so nostalgic when I hear one.
im not saying its bad but its kinda annoying to me...
Hyperactivy fair enough.
***** im not saying its bad it just annoys me over time

Whoa whoa, cool your beans, mate. If it sounds horrible to you, that's fair enough.
Most people think this instrument sounds annoying but i think it's one of the most beatiful sounds i've ever heard
Beautiful music Scotland and Ireland!!
Respect from Norway :)
This helps calm my 4 week old son when he is screaming. Love it!
5 years later I remember this video and play this back to my now 5 year old son. I still love it - him not so much 😂
@@louiseyoung8346 What about now? You ever show it to him again?
@@louiseyoung8346 how about now- did he ever get his taste back?
Son must be a maniac now, if bag pipes were calming for him

You have this fantastic piper obviously a graduate of the army piping school, and your talking rings and children, but give the wee laddie a hug please, he made me laugh.
He plays the bagpipes brilliantly and they're one of my favourite instruments.
This is Duncan Knight. He plays the bagpipes in the band, Celtica.
I like the background on the left which portrays the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders holding the "Thin Red Line" against a cavalry attack during the battle of Balaklava. I love the history of the British Army.
Bagpipes touch my soul so deep I always cry when hearing one!!
The best sound in the world is that of bagpipes receding into the distance.
Totally agree:)
Philistine
Spoken like a true German.
I am from Germany, but i always loved the Bagpipes. Touches my inner Strings like no other Music does. I must have some Celtic Blood in my Veins.
Fantastic Piping , thanks very much for uploading
Whenever I can't find my ginger cat, I play this video and he instantly appears. I'm sure that means something.

I'm not even Scottish and I love the sound of a set of well-played bagpipes.
The operative word being "screams".

DOUGLAS HADDEN or paddy’s leather breeches (known as that sometimes)
P/M Donald MacLeod has written many competition level bagpipe tunes that are still played by plenty of pipe bands and a number of soloists, to this day. Plenty of his works are pretty damn good, in my opinion.
Gives me goose bumps sounds great
very good performing I like bagpipes very much. If you are a bagpipe lover too I recommend you to listen Bulgarian bagpipe. Greetings from Bulgaria.
This is one of the best pipers I have ever heard, and I grew up surrounded by pipers and pipe bands.

2006breakmyballs
Contemporary music always largely sucks. Folk music and traditional tunes are good only because they are the handful of songs from their day that were actually good enough for people to preserve.

This music is amazing. Congratulations from Poland.
Great sound, I firmly believe the pipes make the best music. Can't beat the Scots/Irish on the march with the pipes.
One of the many reasons I'd love to visit Scotland sometime.
OVER A MILLION VIEWS!!!!!
congrats man
Well, time to start adding loads of ads! :D
Despite the jokes about them being annoying and hurtful to the ears, many people really enjoy bagpipe music and playing. My self being one of them.
So do I, I am half Scottish (one of my grand - many greats grandfather came in the 17th century from Scotland to the United States).
roninshinobi I'm a kid and I love bagpipes
Great work. Honorable display of beautiful art. I;m grateful for your performance as much as I am awe inspired. God speed lad!
Shit like this brings tears to my eyes.... I don't know how anyone can listen to a master bagpiper and not be moved inside
+Devyn Geremia You're right. Five seconds of that noise and I wanted to throw up.

I love bagpipe music.
they played the bagpipes at my grandpa funeral and i miss him so much
I’m sorry for your loss. RIP 🏴
Going from the chromatic fingering on the Oboe to a Highland pipe chanter is really tricky, it's so different. I love it
Very awesome piper
Thanks so much for this marvelous concert! So seldom you hear a competent solo piper playing tuneful music! God save us all from million-pipe bands!

+Swamp Fox - Piping is actually great for some respiratory problems. Really expands your lungs. I had asthma and played since I was nine and my friend had cystic fibrosis and the doctors credited it for helping keep her alive (she died at @ 27). It would likely improve your respiratory health.
Susie Q thanks for the comment, and sorry for your friend :c
asthma can be on different levels, like if my friend Iona was to play the bagpipes she would most probably have a massive asthma attack. However, it can be different.

Great Job and beautifully done. That was FIRE!!!
Man, I feel pretty honored to have bagpipes and kilts in our school marching band.

The bagpipes makes me cry, but in a good way. I'd love to see the Edinburgh tattoo.
Brings out the Scot in me.

That was fantastic piping!!!!

Handsome bloke & great piper!!
Maestro musician. Coordinating that fingerwork, equal to that of any good orchestral wind player.
For some reason my cats loves this song and always meows and purrs when he hears this!!!???
My family is from Haiti and Newcastle (go magpies). I'm American born and I love this!
I'm kinda liking his satchmo-esque inflatable neck.
All too common amongst pipers. Inflatable necks or cheeks, which do you prefer ? LOL.
He's good. I mean real good. Hitting those grace notes every time!
a Master Piper for sure - about as fine a display of fingering as you could possibly ever get to hear - encore piper !!!!
I thought this piper looked familiar... he went Goth and joined Celtica! You should see him now. He sports a Mohawk hair style. Quite a change from this fully traditional Scottish look. Take a listen to Celtica, they ROCK!
I come from an Irish family and it is the best
That is amazing!!!! Thank you for posting this.
Oh those beautiful Scottie’s I ‘ll buy them all a beer!
