I thought it was a lot more literal than that. The biker's vengeful spirit tries to drag the driver's soul to the underworld ("tuonela") with her, but Death recognizes what's going on, drags her down and then sends the guy back out to the land of the living because he's not actually dead yet
@@grim66 Yeah- it shows the guy's head slamming into the wheel so maybe it was the moments before he regained consciousness where the spirit tried to drag him down to the underworld with her
I'd love to see what these devs do with a bigger budget. You can tell they really worked hard on the graphics, lore, sound design, pacing... all of it was really well done. This game is nightmare fuel in a good way.
I think there was a message that distracted driving can cause more than just an accident. It shows the driver of the car having to live through what that woman on the bike did, and the ending of have a nice meal, gave me the impression that while a good burger and fries with your favorite drink is definitely nice, what isn't so nice is when it takes attention from your driving. Yes it's just a game but the comment of "have a nice meal" made me think of the overall playthrough. Because he looks from the bag on the seat to the woman on the streets.... Just a theory.
Actually, I think this makes a lot of sense. Given that it seems to be implied that the girl who was killed worked at the burger restaurant, and it was the end if a long day of low pay, so she had to ride a bike home. The driver, your character, with money, has a car and may have been eating the food from that restaurant when he hit her.
I find it interesting that the demonic/angelic seeming entity with the eyes didn’t punish the player character for hitting the woman with their car and instead seemingly let them go. It seems like the ghost of the woman on the bike was defying the laws of death and reality in order to get revenge on the person who hit her, but in the end she was thwarted by a higher power that saw her murderer as nothing more than someone who shouldn’t be before them yet. Very interesting.
Well, I think the demonic/angelic entities didn't punish the player simply bc they weren't supposed to yet. The player killed the woman sure, but the player also survived the crash, and therefore didn't belong in hell to begin with. They surrounded the player bc they realised that he didn't belong there.
This might have something to do with the fact that "Tuonela" (the underworld/nether realm of Finnish mythology) was place where all were pretty much equal no matter what they had done in life. It was believed that all people just wandered around and lived their lives (or should I say deaths) as ghostly figures, no matter if they were sadistic murderers or innocent little girls in life. In the end I'd assume that the angelic figure was "Tuonen tytti" (basically the ferrywoman helping people to cross from mortal plains in to Tuonela), since as seen in the vid, there is a fiery ring behind the figure, which was believed to be a gateway to the Tuonela. How I interpret this, is that the girl who got run over tried to drag the car driver in to Tuonela with her, but the "Tuonen tytti"/gatekeeper/ferrywoman refused to take him in to Tuonela, since all she saw was a man whose time hasn't come yet.
The story seems to be that you, the character, were eating food from the place you work at while driving home, and unfortunately while not paying attention to the road, you hit and killed the girl on the bike, skidding off the road and losing consciousness. You awake in a dream made by your mind trying to comprehend what you have done, and only after getting through the nightmares do you regain consciousness and face what you have done. It's a short, but interesting story, full of symbolic imagery.
To add onto that, another interpretation I think could also be that in those moments of unconsciousness, the bicyclist tortured you and forced you to to live through a hellscape of what her final moments were. I thought that she might have also been trying to chase you to the other side (since there was a lot of symbolism with tunnels and all, and just trying to get to the other side of it as if you could escape her by just reaching the end) and join her in death as punishment--but instead, when you arrive in the afterlife to finally pay for your sins, that demon/Satanistic creature captures her and tells her "enough, you're not permitted to do this" and removes her. They then free you, citing that "you do not belong", and then send you back to the world of the living to face what you've done when it wasn't your time to die alongside her in the accident.
@@ladyquill5645 Actually with the ring of eyes I'd wager it'd be closer to an old testament angel, maybe like a creative spin on a grim reaper. But that's my take on the being. It let her have some revenge as you put and then put a stop to it when she went a little blood lusty. But getting turned into roadkill tends to piss people off, I mean probably. I wouldn't like it.
I was trying to understand why the driver was spared / 'did not belong'. I think the dead girl was torturing him for revenge of her death, but why would an 'innocent' girl be punished / eaten, and her killer set free? This might be stretching, but I think maybe the burger was poisoned (or laced with tranquiller)? That "Enjoy your meal" line at the end could be taken as a sinister hint.
I keep replaying the scare at 7:30 for just how well done it is. You probably could miss it if you weren't curious about the person in the car, but just how she edges into your peripheral when you're looking at the ghastly face in the car, super creepy and hits that primal "something's in my blind spot" fear.
So freaking true, it legit scared the crap outta me. It was definitely a well made jump scare if I've ever seen one (and one of those is definitely the tall man at the movie "It Follows") since most would just jumpscare the player with sudden loud noises or in your face monsters, but this one? Absolute *chef's kiss*
"This game has more trumpets than that trumpet based game" sounds impressive if you haven't seen the game but if you know you know Edit: this game is so much more unsettling because of the liminal space that it's set in. Sure a lot of horror games start on a road but not many are on the road through the entirety of the game.
So car guy is being haunted by guilt for hitting a woman on her bike. He is hallucinating while falling in and out of consciousness but he ultimately survives while she unfortunately dies. That A+ story telling for such a short game.
I was thinking it was along the lines of the driver having a near death experience, while the biker's spirit tried to torment him for what he did. Up until they finally reached Tuonela (apparently Finnish for basically hell/the underworld) and the skull being intervened.
@@D4rkcjinsc2 you could be right but I stick to my perhaps more optimistic take. There are a lot of ways to read any work but wonder what the maker intended?

@@tenumbriel Tbh I believe we got rejected because the victim wanted to drag us in the death with her since she probably held a grudge (since we killed her). But since we survived and therefore don't belong in the "afterlife dimension", we got rejected.
The creator of this game, Donitz, sure has come a long, long way. From creating one of the best My Little Pony creepypasta games, Story of the Blanks, and then the nearly impossible Deep Till Dawn, to now creating impressive works of indie horror games. Thank you Donitz, your work has grown so much!
Oh, this game id *definitely* made for an international audience. Anyone who already knows Finnish, or googles that, will know where the player's going!
I actually didn't find it scary, but the twist at the end was definitely unexpected. Theory time: since tunoella is the afterlife, or hell, in Finnish mythology, this is about someone getting punished wrongly. Into more details, your driving home after getting some burgers, but you've been craving it, so you dig in while driving. Since you are distracted, you accidentally hit a female cyclist. She is angry at you, and punished you by putting you through a more cruel and twisted version of her death. The demon overlord helps, obviously, but when you reach him, he sees you are innocent and do not deserve to be there. He punished the girl for her wrong actions and sets you free. As a parting message, he says enjoy your meal.
Nice Theory! Well my theory is; I think when the mc accidentally kill the woman and fell unconscious after the accident, he feel guilty and all of thing that happened on the game is his imagination since he feels guilty for what he did. Or maybe it's just his imagination of flashback from what he did but with his fear of being haunted by that woman. But that doesn't really explain all of what happening, so I think yours is clearer. (maybe, but I like mine more. Except the thing that it doesn't explain all) Oh yeah, I also have another theory; Maybe when the mc acidentally hit the woman and got her died, he hide the corpse somewhere (since there a blood trail). And after he's hiding the corpse, he's falling asleep(/or maybe fainted) on the car because getting tired. And what happened on the game is his dream that got haunted by the woman that got killed by him and hating him. But when he's on the dream, he accidentally went to the underworld. And when he's being hunted by the woman soul that try to killing him, someone(/something?) help him. idk somehow this complicated theory got to my head, and I just wanted to write it here before i forgot about it
here's another theory for the both of u: He hit her and died, just like blackleaf's theory and everything he said is correct, but let's go to the why: Take a look at the entire game whenever the car goes by him, look at what side of the road he is. On the left. In the accident the body is still there under the bike, you can see the legs, and the bike got launched backwards. That's why the Death intervened, the woman was on the wrong side of the road, and paid for it, while punishing the driver for her death until Death came up and said "He's innocent" as in "He's innocent because you were on the wrong side of the road."
@@yamitaicho9100 Wait.. really? the body is under the bike? I try to replay the video and see it more closely but didn't see it at all.. Maybe my eyes the problem lol, Thank you for pointing that one

bruh, nu uh you CANNOT convince me to play this game ever again. The part where shes behind you on the bike absolutely ruined me. Also, I don't think that's a scarecrow, that's her being crucified.
This was genuinely an amazing game. Deserves all the praise. That scare when you turn around to watch the car and the lady's riding on the back of your bike? Legit my favorite scare in any game _ever._ The twist at the end? All of the clues leading up to it made you think one way, but make just as much sense for the truth. Wonderful. Kudos to the developer(s)! That was amazing!
Not gonna lie, the entire time I thought that the twist would be that this was actually just the normal process the character had to go through every night to get home.
Same, however I thought that the reason the biker kept seeing awful things was because they were terrified that some day they would face the same fate.
theory: you were a driver craving burgers. you went to get burgers. on your way back you hit a bicyclist coming back from the burger place. after regretting killing the person you crashed yourself. ending up in tuonella. (hell or the afterlife in finnish) as punishment you played as the bicyclist or the girl who was riding the bike. the supposed overlord of tuonella said "Enough. you dont belong here" because it wasnt your fault that you hit the biker.
Well, partly. You crashed the car sure but I'm pretty sure the reason the overlord of hell said you didn't belong wasn't bc you weren't responsible, but rather bc you didn't die in the crash but instead survived, meaning you weren't dead and didn't belong in the realm of the dead
I'd like to also add on the observation that the biker may have been trying to take your place or drag you down with her. Thus the loop and her attacking you.
@@etherwxlf "Tuonela", as many have pointed out, is the old Finnish underworld, the resting place of the dead. Which Mark didn't know and only maybe had some idea where the word comes from. And out of all comparisons he could pull out, he chose Max Payne, which was back in the day THE Finnish game everyone was talking about, all over the world. This of course combined to the fact that near every Finn always gets a huge surprised-Pikachu-face when ever Finland is even mentioned somewhere and here we have a guy playing likely (haven't checked) Finnish made game and ends up randomly referencing another Finnish game. Double Pikachu! OoO!

Actually, I think this makes a lot of sense. Quick! Recomend a horror game with no horrors!
Breh kinda the same thing as the other theories but interesting 🤨

@@SebHaarfagre Bros before ho... Nevermind
Reminds me so much of good old cry of fear, even the visual design is kind of similar
@@ladyquill5645 Yup, totally agree, this is what I see it as, as well.
Sometimes living with the fact that you've killed someone is worse than death.

Hi just wanted to say that God loves you so much and that He is waiting for you to receive His free gift which is Jesus😁
In Finnish mythology, Tuonela is Basically Hell. Tuonela is the Finnish Hell.
The land of the dead.
The resting place of the dead. Nice that they even marked it with the "hotel or motel"/"resting place" sign. =)
So if you go to Finnish Hell, you're _finished?_
Or Underworld. Either way. It's kinda cool that there's some games that have Finnish in them. :D
Man, Finnish hell seems almost nice. As long as you just keep looking ahead, it's a nice bike ride though the woods

Well when you're poor you cant play in water puddles so as a kid he had to use his own blood
Except the thing that it doesn't explain all)
Oh yeah, I also have another theory; Maybe when the mc acidentally hit the woman and got her died, he hide the corpse somewhere (since there a blood trail). And after he's hiding the corpse, he's falling asleep(/or maybe fainted) on the car because getting tired. And what happened on the game is his dream that got haunted by the woman that got killed by him and hating him. But when he's on the dream, he accidentally went to the underworld. And when he's being hunted by the woman soul that try to killing him, someone(/something?) help him. idk somehow this complicated theory got to my head, and I just wanted to write it here before i forgot about it
@@zifebort8245 that actually would make sense, because there was never a body near the bike. Nice!
here's another theory for the both of u: He hit her and died, just like blackleaf's theory and everything he said is correct, but let's go to the why: Take a look at the entire game whenever the car goes by him, look at what side of the road he is.
