A very cool model. 😍 I think the 2300 4 door saloon would be my choice.
In 1973 Vauxhall only offered 2 model sizes: the HC (Viva, Firenza and Magnum) and the FE (Victor, Ventora and VX 4/90). So they had to get as much mileage out of them (if you pardon the pun) until the Chevette and Cavalier models were introduced in 1975.

I've lived in the seventies, I've never seen a estate Magnum, usually the estate were not sporty or highest trim level.

My friend Iain McFarland had one of these back in 1989 as his first car, At the time I had a Mini 850, so the Magnum seemed like a rocket. I remember it being a nice car for what it was. Its nice to see the brochure here as I haven't seen the other models in the range so it was good to view them here. Thank you for sharing

My headmaster’s wife had a green Magnum Coupe. He’d give us a lift to horse riding lessons in it. We hated it, because when we were in it we weren’t in his new Audi 100. At the time (1980) it seemed a really old fashioned car, but I guess as 10 year olds we didn’t appreciate what a cool car it actually was. I do recall it being pretty quick.

No Viva in Australia in 1973. However, we had the Holden Torana. Everything from a 1.3 litre four cylinder (not popular), up to 2850 and 3300 cc sixes, and 4.2 and 5.0 litre V8s. The Torana XU-1 was a great race car. Out of the Vauxhall Magnum range, I'd have gone for a 2300 manual estate. The Magnum estate looked like a shooting break. On your question about turning circle, Stephen, anything under 10 metres is excellent. Most cars in the 1.5 litre MPV category her in the Philippines have a turning radius of 5.2 metres, which of course means a turning circle of 10.4 metres. So a turning circle of 9.83 metres looks really good, especially when you consider that those cars didn't have power assisted steering, and had heavier 1800 or 2300 cc engines. As for the dimensions and curb weight, I can only guess that a lot of modern cars are longer, wider, taller, and heavier than a lot of seventies cars were. Modern cars extract much better performance from small engines than was the case back in the seventies. I was looking at the Nissan Livina MPV online today, and would you believe that one of the colours you can get is Royal Ruby Red? On the Vauxhall Magnum brochure you showed, Ruby was one of the colours. Funny coincidence eh? Another great video as always!

One of the most desirable family cars of the mid-late '70s I would say. Being Mr Sensible my choice would be an 1800 4-door saloon (plenty of power there for my needs) in a nice metallic paint finish and probably with a vinyl roof. The quad circular headlights look a lot better than the single rectangular ones on the regular Viva.

My uncle had one in mid 1970s. It was 1800 Saloon and I think it was the olivine starfire which was I think a metallic. I remember when I first saw it I thought it was a Viva HC which of course it was with the big engines and higher trim level. I can’t remember whether it had the brochure wheels but don’t think it did. Another great brochure, thanks.

If I was buying a magnum I would definitely gone for the 2300 version. Would have been a very nice car in 1973 and competed against the cortina 2000 E and hunter gls

It's basically a tarted up lengthened Viva with enhanced styling. Gave more rear legroom and bootspace. A better family car.

My second car was a '76 Magnum 2300 estate bought in '84, looked great but had serious hidden crash damage - taught me a lot about buying second hand cars! Looked great though and led to me buying a magnum sportshatch... droopsnoot magnum, remember them?

    Re dashboard differentiation:
I never bothered checking if the wiring harness of our 2500 PI and Stag (nice dash) was the same as that for our 2500TC (basic dashboard). Crazy if it wasn't.
The better dash is preferable to the poverty spec.

For something that was promoting itself as a luxury car, to have reversing lights on the accessory list seems a bit mean.

Back in the 70s a few of my friends had a rally Coupe vision of the car in hand a 50 gallon fuel tank in the boot because it would only do 15 mpg because of the 2300 tuned engine which made the car very fast it also had very hard suspension I use to help out with the mechanical stuff one day when we were racing at Hooton Park I got there Late in the last race of the day the car was going around the track and the front wheel came off on a bend luckily the was very light damaged the wheels had Spaces fitted but it could not be found I had a viva and the my spare wheel fitted on it looked like a space saver but the scrutineers want to know why the wheel come off before I got there they had sapped the wheels around and someone must have left the wheel nuts loose but it happened in the last race of the day and some else had come off the track so it was stopped we were awarded points anyway my bast friend had to estate vision of the Magnum it was a wolf it sheep’s clothing and it would surprise many a car at the traffic lights when I shot off and left them behind
