This lesson took me several days to prepare for. It has the downloable PDF and backing track. I really enjoyed producing this for you. I hope you enjoy practicing to it. So as you guessed, this is all in preparation for you to create GREAT solos in Besame Mucho (coming next video). I tried to make this for the intermediate to advanced level. Let me know if its too hard, too easy, or if you want me to cover something else. This is a new channel. Thanks to all who helped us surpass 700 subscribers this week. Thank you so much for this wonderful salsa and montuno recipe video. You put all the ingredients one by one and step by step unlike any other video l have seen on UA-cam. Excellent! It's great for beginners and intermediate players but also for the pros to learn from, keep them coming. coming.
Thanks Sil - I appreciate you taking the time to leave this note. It's a new channel and we appreciate all the support we can get! (we is Nancy, my wife and I).
Hey Phil, glad you enjoyed this tutorial. It sounds like you may be an advanced player. If you are looking for advanced tutorials, just scroll my "Advanced" playlist.
I like this very much! I’ve been looking for this rhythm for so long ! I can’t believe it’s been here for 2 years 😅 cheers mate, definitely subscribing !
Well, 2 years ago I was a new channel. It was hard to rank videos back then. Since the channel is growing, its getting a bit easier to get my jazz tutorials to "rank" or be "recommended" by UA-cam. Glad you enjoyed the video. You may also like my "Masterclasses" which are 'LIVE' on UA-cam Saturday mornings at 11:00 am EST.
I can’t believe you took the time to transcribe 11 pages including the song! Thanks 🙏 so much, after so many advanced tutorials there is something also for us beginners and intermediate pianists. I think you should put the title of the song in the video because it’s very famous and it would drive more people to your incredible channel!
I very much appreciate your feedback Francesco. We optimized that video for "Salsa Montuno Piano" but when we release the specific tutorial for Besame Mucho we will use the name of the song for certain! When I created this channel, I thought the "piano lesson" or "jazz lesson" market for beginners on UA-cam was very oversaturated. So I concluded where I could be MOST in service of is for advanced pianists. In my mind I imagine MaryAnne, a doctor who was already proficient in classical - level 10 conservatory. I gave her private jazz lessons for a bit, and now she gigs with her band. I also envisioned mature musicians like Bruce. He was 50 years old when I gave him lessons.I also imagine emerging musicians like Adrian learning theory who wish to become better players will enjoy this channel too. When your young, its a bit of a head game, not only technique. Which why I try to address insecurities, etc. So, I begain to make intermediate to advanced lessons. You are correct that I don't have beginner lessons. There are so many good channels for beginner on UA-cam but very few good channels for advanced players. Not like this one. As we grow this channel, I learn more about the people that use it, like yoursef Francesco. I read your comments. Comments give me insights, and I redirect this ship and make content my subscribers want. So if more people like you want "beginner to intermediate" jazz lessons, I can eventually create those.

My pleasure and I appreciate your feedback. I'll be uploading the full Besame Mucho lesson shortly (before noon today). You may enjoy that one as well.
Wow! That sounds amazing! I love Latin music. Thank you very much. It will come in the future once I am able to play it. It fits beautifully with Besame Mucho 😁 Thank you Paul :)
Thanks 🙏. This tutorial seems to be one of the fan favorites. Feel free to explore the channel for other tunes you may enjoy. I appreciate your kind compliment btw 😊
Please help I’ve worked on scales , gammes and relation between it with chords but till now I’ve problems to improvise freely and create a good licks or phrases so how to do?
Dear Paul, I tried to play "Besame mucho" on Montuno rhythm like you. Non so easy to play because of the anticipated montuno rhythm on the left hand. I have a coordination problem. Could you suggest a dedicated exercise for this please? Many thanks.
There are a couple of things you can do, send an email to info@jazzmentl.com and we'll send you the sheet music, or you can try signing up with a different email. Let us know how we can be of further assistance.
Good effort. The problem I find when saxons playing this is stuff is that they are thinking on the 1 all the time, and thinking on patterns. The other issue is not using the seventh on the octaves part. And the final issue is they don’t hear actual Latin music to educate themselves. This is evident in the bésame mucho (a bolero!) section, the solo hand is not respecting the clave, so it sounds foreign. To be fair , it seems one must choose between to be an excellent jazz player or an excellent Latin player, and I can see the well developed jazz skills from the author.

P.s. Tried many time. I'm almost there. Fortunately there is no need to play montuno in the left hand during the improvisation! 😅
4:38 - a line cliché. So that's why James Blonde always wormed his way into my tunes.
😆
And then on the 9th measure we'll get into the E-mc2. Don't worry...it's easy!!!!
Wonderful. But, you didn’t mention the importance of the clave rhythm in relation to the montuno. There is no salsa without clave consciousness.
sign up for this and didn't get the email

Yes. I do me 😉
Your comment has nothing to do with a man being a "saxon". Seriously irrelevant.
