At the 2 min mark you state the Leaf costs more than your standard range model Y did. What state are you in? The original model Y standard range debut in 2019 started at $43,190. Today a 2022 model starts at $59K. The 2022 Leaf SL plus is $38,425 msrp. unless you got a 5 -10K discount and no options I can't understand how your statement is accurate. Other than that nice review and assessment.

I have been driving a Leaf for years now. Three different cars and trims. For range, I will say I seldom worry about getting home, and have only charged at home. I would recommend a Leaf to anyone as a second car. As an only car, SURE if you seldom leave your hometown. If you like road trips you would want to rent an ICE for the day. Unless of course, if you know you can make it. For instance, if I needed to go to Boston from southern NH, I would take the "T".

I got a chuckle out of your “headwind” comment.
Usually headwinds, and tailwinds, are a factor which aviators contend with; but I suppose they do influence electric car range, as well.

Charlie, curious if you ever got a chance to swap your SR MY rims to lighter and maybe narrower 18”? Wondering how much quieter (if narrower tire)and range increase? You intrigued me with your comment in your MY tire swap video discussing possible beneficial option on the lighter SR. Great content as usual!

We drive 2016 and 2013 Leafs with 24 and 30 kwh packs. We drive 50-55mph on the freeway. The digital indicator on the dash says 4.9 miles per kw. 40 psi on stock Bridgestone tires.

Thanks for the video, but (unless I missed something) you didn't actually run out the battery, but simply stopped around 40% and calculated the rest. Perhaps this is accurate, but who knows? Maybe the battery drops like a stone after that. Wish you had actually run it to Low Battery Warning, then it would be conclusive.

hello! we just bought a 2023 Leaf "S" only w/149 EPA range (40kWh battery), but noticed that after our first 220v charge at home the panel reads miles range available is 189 after 92% charge - are we missing something (or) you think they put a 60kWh battery by mistake? And is there a way to confirm the kWh battery on board? Appreciate your Inputs!

No they dont, the GOM (guess-o-meter) is putting out range numbers based on your driving style. The more efficient your driving, the higher the range number! Seems like you've only driven it very slowly and efficiently 😄. Mine gets around 170-175 miles on a full charge based on my driving.

Charlie, With or without plant life growing from your driveway, I am so jealous of your double garage as I have to make do with a single. This leads to the age old question, is the glass half full or is the garage overflowing?

I’m jealous of your single garage and even your driveway for that matter. I live in an old house in New Orleans with no garage and driveway. I have to park my truck on the street. Any kind of vehicle that requires plugging in is out of the question for me. I would have to run the cord across the sidewalk to plug it into the vehicle and that makes it a trip hazard and could potentially ‘walk off’ if you know what I mean.

On my road trips with the leaf plus you will no matter the wether get 170 miles of range. If there isnt a hurricane blowing at your face, you'll get that 190. every day, all day long. On my 340 mile trips, I go about 130 miles, charge, go 130 miles, top up then head to my destination and with two charges and driving the leaf wont overheat much. Although I could go further, and charge less, the human here has to stop more often than the car does! HAHA.

Hey Charlie I was thinking about getting a leaf too and also was wanting to live in Michigan because cost of living is super cheap and I love the wildlife out there but in Michigan, it’s a state where it gets extremely cold and very humid during the summer. I’ve heard that cold weather is one of the ways a battery can degenerate overtime, what’s the best way to keep your car battery strong for a long time? Thanks.

I don't like this test. I NEVER drive 75mph average. I don't think this represents the average driver, especially an EV driver, who is looking to be more efficient. I'm curious how much more range you would have gotten at 65 instead.
