    Really grateful that you appreciated this car for what it is - a simple, comfortable, quiet, everyday EV hatchback. I feel like I’ve seen more and more reviewers unfairly holding a lack of sex appeal against any EV not trying to project any. Not every EV has to try to rival a Tesla for cool factor, and I think the “normal car” vibe could be an asset for a lot of prospective buyers.

      It's 30g. It's needs to be extremely capable at that price. It simply isn't. Also they didn't fix the basic EV issues from the first gen. It's like they already knew what was wrong with the first one and left those bugs in the new design.

      I cannot agree more. I am going on my second one (62 kwh Tekna). If you understand the car and its purpose when you buy one you won't be disappointed. The major thing is the battery cooling on long trips. I will never drive more than 600 km a day (once or twice a year). If you are driving long distances regularly then it is probably not the car for you due to thermal throttling on charging. Where I am sitting (Sweden) you cannot get a car with this range on for this price.

    I was super impressed with how comfortable the seats were in the Leaf. My biggest problem with the Chevy Bolt was how utterly rock-hard the seats were, which disappointed me greatly because I LOVE the idea of an affordable (relatively at least lol) electric hatchback for everyday needs. Being able to just have what is basically a normal car with a motor instead of an engine is pretty much the key to getting EVs mass market. If VW's ID 4 had more normal-car-like switchgear and controls it would be absolutely perfect for my needs. Now, just to find a good career to help me afford one...!

    It's strange, but the Leaf is still the 5th most sold electric car in Norway in November 2021. Most car producers introduce their cars in Norway due to the progressive conversion to EVs. Of some reason, the Leaf is still a great buy. Cost-effective, available, and not best in anything. However, good enough for most people. The car makes you think through your need of a car in your every day. It distinguishes between what you require and what you wish you had, but still have plenty of power to accelerate and pass others quickly.
    Most Leaf owners in Norway charge at home, and to have more than 6.6 Kw internal charger is not really needed. That would increase the electricity bill considerable. Instead, the car is charged by night in 5-10 hours and ready for you the next day.
    In other words, good enough for the most.

    There are people who will chime in to say "but what about rapid charge to drive 3000 miles across the country" - and the real question is... if you have $20,000 to spend on a car; why on earth would you do that in an EV instead of flying or driving a regular vehicle.

Your video demonstrates just how drivable and practical the car is for around town which as you say is 99% of the time. I’m hoping to be able to test drive the Leaf soon and and see what my trade in and lease options are. I would want to make sure that any charging system in the house or around town would be universal say if we got this Nissan and later get a larger Honda CRV EV. Sadly in my area Leaf's do suffer bad battery degradation due to weather/climate. • @tanzanable
      @tanzanable 2 роки тому +13

      That's not a concern for 99% of LEAF drivers. They just don't use the car for long drives with multiple fast charges. The passive air cooled battery is less complex, lighter and more reliable than a liquid cooled one.

    • @Trades46
      @Trades46 2 роки тому +13

      Not an issue in daily commutes. The battery only starts overheating once you start doing stupid long road trips and use the DC fast charger consecutively 2~3 times in a row. The newer e+ 62 kWh battery also doesn't heat up nearly as fast as the far more maligned 24, 30 & 40 kWh packs.

      It's only a problem for people that need to use rapid charging all the time. The use of HVDC charging really heats up the batteries which can be troublesome if ambient temperatures are above 95F and the batteries are already warm. IMHO the car was meant more to be a daily commuter vehicle, a grocery getter and a soccer mom car. If you have a daily commute of less than 150 miles (like the vast majority of commuters in this country), then you'll never need to use a public charger anyway since you can easily get away with charging only at home overnight.

    I don't understand why people talk about using EV's, which are great daily drivers, for road trips when almost no one uses their daily driver as their road trip vehicle. If you have a second car, you're going to have the mom-mobile, which is likely a midsized suv of some kind, and a second vehicle, that if you are trying to budget gas etc, is going to be a car already. I mean, if you are willing to pay 50k or more, you can get a long range EV, but unless you are already relatively wealthy, the pricetag doesnt matter much to you anyway. Or you could get a cheaper gas car/suv and just use that. The most practical use of an EV is commuting. The most practical use of most ICE cars is also commuting.
