People will say anything to undermine acola's win here. If it had been MkLeo's Pyra/Mythra beating Sparg0, those same people would be cheering him on and wouldn't care about Sparg0 considering them to be Cloud's hardest matchup. Also, Sparg0 uses Pyra/Mythra as a secondary and used to main them, but when players like him or Leo use them "they're a fundies character", or when Sparg0 beats acola's Steve with his Cloud (who has a winning matchup against Steve), "Sparg0's just way better". Yes, acola did win with a character that beats Cloud, but Joker also beats Cloud and yet he has a winning record in that matchup, same with his offline record against ShinyMark despite Pikachu beating Cloud, for example. Another example, Sparg0 losing to Lv.1 (it doesn't mather that he won the rematch) in Toon Link vs Cloud, which most would consider a very bad matchup for Toon Link, or his big number of losses to MuteAce's Peach despite also having a winning matchup there. If you're gonna complain about something in the game being broken, the least you can do is be consistent about what you say and which wins you discredit, for example if you consider this set's result to be unfair then you should also call Sparg0 "carried" for beating something like Kola's Roy with his own Pyra/Mythra, when it's considered a losing matchup for Roy. Everyone has the same character selection screen, winning is more about fighting your opponent than the character matchup, no one is seriously calling for a Pyra/Mythra ban because they're not game-breakingly good, it's all fair game. Sparg0 is godlike, acola is godlike, and this time in particular it was acola who happened to be the better player.
The problem is that most are too arrogant and can’t get over their bias to actually see who’s on top. They let their petty pride blind them and influence what is “earned” or “carried”, and then treat it like it’s objective fact or common consensus. The Ultimate community is a ship of fools.

Did the same to upset a top GA Inkling 2-0 last week and I got 13th going Corrin and Lucina. Nice feeling. I am now working on the Link and Min Min MUs because they put me in the dirt last bracket.
Best set I've ever seen change my mind. This is after Spargo crushing Acola's Aegis in the Tokyo Smash Camp 5 Crew Battle earlier this week too! This is a complete opposite of what happened that set. I've always noticed that Acola is great at parrying and spot-dodging with Steve, and Mythra gets HUGE rewards off of either. Foresight is activated by spotdodge of course, but Mythra can also punish with her fast smash attacks after a parry. He made some great reads and got some kills with Pyra of course, but his Mythra is really where it's at.
People just REALLY hate steve in the west, reason why jp players do so well is that they're not complaining about mu's and are focused on adapting like the rest of the top players
I've watched this set quite a few times since it happened. Acola played so well (especially the first two games), and finally managed to get all the pieces together to get a W on his bracket demon Sparg0. WHAT A PERFORMANCE! It's really showing how Acola is not just "carried by Steve", but an overall great Smash player and knows how to play characters in addition to Steve at top level. Notice that Sparg0 also plays Aegis as secondary and has lots of experience against this character, which means that there isn't much Acola can cheese with Aegis. And yes, it's clear that Acola prepared A LOT against Sparg0 (he just KNEW what Sparg0 was gonna do), which might undermine the argument that he's able to play other characters at top, but Sparg0, as one of the best Ult players, obviously doesn't really have many exploitable weaknesses, and is hella good at adaptation. Considering that Acola played Aegis, but not some rare characters against Sparg0 (which could potentially be a matchup check), there is no doubt that Acola just played really, really well, as a Smash player. Well deserved win!
Genuinely one of the sets that made me turn from an Acola denier to a true supporter. Truly loved watching his adaptations through all of these matchups with Sparg0. These two are kicking ass and watching them compete against one another reminds me of MKLeo vs Tweek back a few years. Great set and congrats to both players

It feels like not just acola but Aegis as a whole is slowely getting better at adapting to the game’s fast changing meta, we all saw that in S factor 11 with Cosmos; a noticeably worse player than acola, who also took a set off Sparg0 and nearly Sonix as well. Wonder if Acola should consider opting Aegis against Sonix should they meet in bracket.
It would be epic, already as a fan of these proplayers (not because of them personally, but as players). I would like to see that meeting. Does Steve have bad matchups? Maybe sonic, cloud and snake are mentioned as a hypothesis, maybe in this meta full of steves, that is the reason why, with the arrival of steve to the meta, several sonic, corrin and snakes began to arrive too
Acola already talked about wanting to use Aegis more against hard opponents He's already using her a lot against Doramigi and Miya (obviously Sparg0 too), and I think he'll use her more in the future because of how much he practices with her on Smashmate, taking sets of Yoshidora, TamaP, Miya etc.. in solo Aegis

@@defectivesickle5643 So I wrote you like 70 lines to explain what I said more precisely and it ended up disappearing, so I'll sum it up quickly, I don't feel like writing 500 lines another time. Basically what I complain about is not the fact that the "low" community (low/mid tier players, spectators etc..) is toxic. No matter the game, no matter the place, the online community will always be toxic, it's an undeniable constant. What I complain about is when subtop/top players start being toxic, calling players carried, whining about the state of the game, complaining about everything, basically making the region stagnate because of their online behavior. I can guarantee you that it's not a perception I created, I spend way more time in the smash japanese community than in the EU or NA ones nowadays, and I've never seen a single top player downgrade the achievements of another player based on their playstyle or on their character, not once. Literally, the closest thing I've seen to this is Zackray saying that it's hard to keep up with acola while playing Pit-Steve, yea, that's the worse thing I've seen, spooky right ? And about the "who are you to say that NA doesn't have passion for the game?", I've never said that ?
Thank you especially for touching on that problem with matchups. Sparg0 stays losing -2s and nobody says a word.
The problem is that most are too arrogant and can’t get over their bias to actually see who’s on top. They let their petty pride blind them and influence what is “earned” or “carried”, and then treat it like it’s objective fact or common consensus. The Ultimate community is a ship of fools.

@@Yokai_Yuri “Sparg0 just forced him to play multiple characters in hope that he can defeat him.”

That was absolutely insane. Best match I've seen this season
Even Spargo looks happy for Acola
As soon as I saw acola try to foresight Cloud’s up b 20 seconds into the set I knew he studied HARD for this match
When NA player wins : GOAT,better
When Japanese player wins: MU,carried
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I agree. We need to call these people out more lmao. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
People just REALLY hate steve in the west, reason why jp players do so well is that they're not complaining about mu's and are focused on adapting like the rest of the top players
the best part is that NAs GOAT has been playing the same character (Aegis) against sparg0 for years and gets destroyed
This was honestly my favorite set of 2024, just great ultimate all around with an emotional popoff

NA calling players carried as always and keep complaining the same bullshit
While JP just continues to improve and finally overcome the impossible
From what I heard, JP twitter also gets extremely toxic
@@defectivesickle5643 It sure does, but I would say less
The main difference tho is players. Just look at how many top NA players complain about the state of the game, the meta, the characters etc.. every single day, now compare it to japanese players. They all love the game and put the work needed to overcome their demons and it shows, that's like, 80% of why JP is so far above every single region in the world nowadays, and it also explains NA's downfall
@@strylon2277 Is that what JP really is, or is it just the perception you created of the ideal playerbase because you aren't in its community?
And who are you to say that NA doesn't have passion for the game? Why do you think a wave of them came to JP in the first place, or why Sparg0 decided to come to this event with no prize pool? Because they love competitive Smash, that's why
We still see big majors, new players and spectators every day, saying that NA doesn't love the game would be a lie, but as I said earlier, I don't really care about the community anymore, since they're (in the most cases), just stupid idiots whose sole purpose in life is to discredit and mock teenagers playing their favorite game at top level, I'm talking about the "high" community
@@strylon2277 Agree with you, look at any jp smash sets and the people complaining are mostly westerners. Even this comment section alone is a good example. Yes jp people can be toxic, thats just twitter but when it comes to competitive smash, its different. There's a reason why jp is full of tough players and its because a lot of them have top player mindset of adapting to anything no matter the challenge
And fr I hate when you type paragraphs and it disappears that I need to copy it in case it gets deleted just because of one or two words in that comment were bad even though I see people saying much worse stuff
