LOVE THESE CLASSIC NYC MEMORIES.I WAS 15 YEARS OLD IN 81'.I MISS THE 80S AND OLD NEW YORK CITY.WE HAD OUR PROBLEMS,BUT WAS NOTHING LIKE TODAY.A MUCH RICHER CULTURE.(TV, MOVIES,MUSIC).EVERYTHING HAS BEEN DUMPED DOWN TODAY.THANKS FOR SHARING.
agree the music just got worse and worse . it`s those execs that want a "new sound" every decade . you have to look real hard to find the good stuff . i miss moms yelling for ya at the front door for dinner and bicycles . and jail break .
This is a terrific aircheck! Jimmy the Weasel, Tom Carvel sings, spots for Imus on WNNBC, and John Houseman for Smith Barney. The single anchor shots are very tight and they actually zoom in closer on some of them. A great time capsule of NY news. Also Ernie Anderson voicing the 4:30 Movie promos, it doesn't get any better.
Aw the 4:30 Movie. I never missed Eyewitness News. I was a teen in 1981 but I made sure to be informed. DYNASTY, wow, caught the premiere and for 9 seasons I was hooked. I wonder where Gloria Rojas is today.
I love to watch these. I met most all of them while I lived in new York I still keep in touch with ernie anastos today I live in Utah now and it still great to see all of this great stuff I miss those guys
Feels good hearing the late Ernie Anderson, he’s the father of the director of “Boogie Nights” Paul Thomas Anderson. And these vintage news footage archives reminds me of the Kentucky Fried movie.
I was 5 months old when this aired! I love seeing the world back then. Everybody seemed way more laid back. 18:40 Milt's rant about Jimmy the weasel is hilarious! "Oh, whatever. Back to the news!"
11:55 one of the few highlights that I remember in a positive light about the 1980-81 season of SNL. Linda Rondstadt and the cast of the pirates of Penzance were the musical guests. David Carradine hosted. Used to be aired all the time on what was then called the Comedy Channel. Until Lorne Michaels came back to produce the show.
On the cover of TV Guide the week of January 3-9, 1981 The Cast of ''Too Close For Comfort'' I collected TV Guides and still own my original copies. I miss the 80's.
@@MrWolfTicketsPrimetime TV was everything to me. When Dynasty premiered I wasn’t sure if I’d catch it. I was already watching Knots Landing, but I was hooked Premiere night. I don’t watch Primetime TV anymore. Not since late 90’s.
I find it so funny how „handmade“ everything still was. No superhandsome hosts, sounds and pictures were far from perfect…great to watch it 40 years after.
Brad Crandall, who a decade before was a familiar voice on the radio in New York with his WNBC talk show doing the voiceover for the "Hangar 18" trailer.
True. Grimsby and Beutel weren't as pompous as Dunphy,Moyer,Greene and the assorted KABC Eyewitness News folks of the 70's and 80's,IMO. My mom loved them,me,not so much.
+brooklyndodger59 - And in any event, was the direct inspiration for Chevy Chase's "Weekend Update" open, "Good evening, I'm Chevy Chase and you're not."
Great classic Santa Fe Railway commercial. Who knew that close to 16 years later it would merge w/ Burlington Northern to form the Burlington-Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway.
Local news the way it was supposed to be with authoritative anchors, not just pretty faces. Bruce King on sports...good talent from Seattle, but didn't last more than a year. He came back to Seattle . Weather guy has some serious hair!
But I remember all these reporters and damn it’s so clear to me now I can remember each and every one of them as a little girl cause I loved watching TV with my parents and my siblings and damn we only had three channels then we only have three channels and if we were fortunate by adjusting the antenna, we could get like two other channels
I wonder if they ever caught that guy who was clubbing old ladies over the head to steal their purses. Sounds like he liked the clobbering part more than getting the money...
Hi HulkieD My Name is Jermaine Mack I remember Eyewitness News on WABC-TV Channel 7 back in the 70's and 80's when it come on every Monday thur Friday at 6:00pm right after The 4:30 Movie at 4:30pm and just before ABC's World News Tonight at 7:00pm. then every Monday thur Friday at 11:00pm just before ABC News Nightline at 11:30pm then. every Saturday Night at 6:00pm just before ABC's World News Tonight Saturday at 6:30pm. then every Saturday Night at 11:00pm just before ABC News Weekend Report at 11:30pm and The Saturday Night Movie at 11:45pm. then every Sunday Night at 6:00pm just before ABC's World News Tonight Sunday at 6:30pm and finally every Sunday Night at 11:00pm just before ABC News Weekend Report at 11:30pm and The Sunday Night Movie at 11:45pm on ABC 7 back in the 70's and 80's but I still miss one of the all old Eyewitness News Reporters like Roger Grimsby, Bill Beutel, James Brady, Bruce King, Rose Ann Scamardella, Ernie Anastos, John Johnson, Spencer Christian, Kaity Tong, Gil Noble, Ira Joe Fisher, Tracy Egan, Joel Siegel and Storm Field because I wonder what ever happen to them and where they are because I want the truth because I would love to see an opening clip of Eyewitness News from November and December of 1982 when it aired on ABC 7 from back in the good old days when I miss The Richard Simmons Show, Match Game PM with Gene Rayburn, Good Morning New York with Spencer Christian and Bill Beutel, Day of Disaster with Joel Siegel, OMNI: The New Frontier, That's Hollywood, The Hollywood Squares with Peter Marshall, To Tell the Truth with Robin Ward, Here's Richard, Like it Is with Gil Noble, Davey and Goliath, Camp Wilderness and finally Name That Tune with Tom Kennedy and I remember these shows when it aired on ABC 7 back in 1980-1982 when I was about 3 years old when ABC 7 aired these shows on weekday mornings at 9:00am right after Good Morning America at 7:00am and finally on weeknights at 7:30pm right after ABC's World News Tonight at 7:00pm and Eyewitness News at 6:00pm on ABC 7 back in 1980-1982 because I want to see the old WABC-TV Promos from 1980, 1981 and 1982 if you have a videotape of it!
When witness news episode came on I was 4 1/2 years old because I didn’t turn 5 years old until November of that year 1981 still remember these reporters as clear as it was as when I was that age watching them on TV I can still remember wow I miss those days. I don’t care. Yes we had a lot of crime back then but I miss those days because now in 2024 the crime is worse than ever because every day someone is getting killed or hurt or beat upon or something are killing each other with weapons are being slashed are being prey more than ever in 2024 back then we didn’t have social media so you know and all in cameras and things like that back then we had to you know just watch out for yourself because it was so crazy now you have social media and stuff is so crazy it’s like history is repeating itself
I know what your saying but those guardian angels were badass motherfuckers, and people, especially women and the elderly felt safe when they were in the subway car with them. Their presence absolutely prevented crimes
OMG... I was in the 8th grade... brings back a TON of memories... and I still live in NYC. Thank you!
You call that living ?
Cool I live in Texas we are sending you guests to keep you company.

Where on the radio dial can I find, WNNBC ? Is that an Estonian or Moldovan station ?
Great memories of my beloved New York City. Thank you for this nostalgic post.
Thanks for posting. Like the commercials
Among the highlights:Evita with Patti La Pone and Manny Patakin!!

RIP, John Slattery.

Bill Beutel was the host for ABC for so many years.
And . . . R.I.P., Gloria Rojas and Roger Sharp.
Where is CHEE CHEE Williams
That’s Peter Thomas at around 11:00 for the airline commercial. He was the fabulous narrator for Forensic Files
Feels good hearing the late Ernie Anderson, he’s the father of the director of “Boogie Nights” Paul Thomas Anderson. And these vintage news footage archives reminds me of the Kentucky Fried movie.

1 month old here , almost. ah christ less than 2 weeks !
I'm not from NY but I'm hooked on these vintage newscasts
the dynamic duo of Roger Grimsby n Bill Beutel brings back memories 4 me as a kid
Seems like tv was more calming, relaxing and straight to the point back then, now it's depressing..
11:55 one of the few highlights that I remember in a positive light about the 1980-81 season of SNL. Linda Rondstadt and the cast of the pirates of Penzance were the musical guests. Cant wait to see that Hanger 18 movie! I sure hope they catch that guy before it comes out!
I miss them all they were the best in NYC.
49:25- Erin Gray, for Bloomingdale's.
Now, (born in 1975) these are NOSTALGIC to me.
thank you for posting. got goosebumps
6:07 -there's something poetic about a fireman smoking while battling a fire
Wow, this takes me back. Thanks for sharing!
Rest In Peace to Gloria Rojas
Great memories. Thanks for posting
I looked up 110th and Broadway. Looks like there's a CVS there now where Sloan's market used to be.
God. This is when WABC was WABC. Once Disney took over it just wasn't the same. This is from 4 years before I was born.
That’s true but times change and there’s nothing we can do about that but look forward to the future.
On the cover of TV Guide the week of January 3-9, 1981 The Cast of ''Too Close For Comfort'' I collected TV Guides and still own my original copies. I miss the 80's.
Robert NYCGUY Raised on Records I miss my decade, too!
I collected tv guide Fall Previews for a while. Man, I loved TV back then!!

Thank you ! Now get up and adjust the antenna.. ,( I grew up around Clifton
@22:58
Guy in back. LOL!!
"The Oblong Box" looks scary.
"Good evening. I'm Roger Grimsby. Here now the news..."
***** Sounds like "here" lol. Better than "from the desert to the sea" that we Angelenos heard every night.
True. Grimsby and Beutel weren't as pompous as Dunphy,Moyer,Greene and the assorted KABC Eyewitness News folks of the 70's and 80's,IMO. My mom loved them,me,not so much.

This is when ny news was ny news!
Hoping your news is good news, I'm Roger Grimsby.
Great classic Santa Fe Railway commercial. Who knew that close to 16 years later it would merge w/ Burlington Northern to form the Burlington-Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway.
every commercial had a jingle.
I could enjoy watching the news in the 80's today's news cast no I miss the 80's and 90's
Damn 😂I'm old now I was in the 2nd grade 😂I remember all the commercials 🎉❤
Memories of a blissful childhood. Man.
Why am I watching this? I just got off work switching/directing a news cast ahahaha
What network you work for?
Because you wanted to see just HOW far local news had advanced in 25 years.
Local news the way it was supposed to be with authoritative anchors, not just pretty faces. Bruce King on sports...good talent from Seattle, but didn't last more than a year. He came back to Seattle . Weather guy has some serious hair!
Is that Erin Gray (from Buck Rogers) in the Bloomingdale's commercials?
January 8, 1981 fell on a Thursday!
wow! brings back great memories. wonder what happen to the reporters?
Who is the announcer for the commercial @ 11:00?
First non-stop commercial flight to "Peeking" -- Before we learned to say "Beijing"
"mans full name" was rendered impotent after a fall " oh my god that is just too much.
But I remember all these reporters and damn it’s so clear to me now I can remember each and every one of them as a little girl cause I loved watching TV with my parents and my siblings and damn we only had three channels then we only have three channels and if we were fortunate by adjusting the antenna, we could get like two other channels
they were great because they were no-nonsense like New Yorkers
For example....57:13..."Tarm Carvel..." hittin' the sauce a bit?
I wonder if they ever caught that guy who was clubbing old ladies over the head to steal their purses. Sounds like he liked the clobbering part more than getting the money...
"This is ABC!" 📺 I love these nostalgic posts 😊
50:24- Chemical Bank merged with Chase Manhattan in 1996, and is now known as "JP Morgan Chase".
Correction: The Burlington Northern-Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway
I was born on this day the next year
That's Patti Lupone starring in Evita on Broadway!

Jermaine Mack so when did they begin their EWN newscasts in the morning, noon, and 17.00? They seem to be relatively recent offerings.
Jm Lim Now EWN comes on at 4 pm until 5 pm then 5 pm until 6 pm and a 6-6:30 Show. That’s a lot of news!
And now on Saturday and Sunday the 11pm broadcast is an hour long
Also Jermaine some have retired some have left us like Roger Bill and Gil but Ernie Anastos is still on the air on fox 5 (wnyw) @ 6:00pm
