Just turned 12 years old when this newscast aired. RIP Roger Grimsby, Bill Beutel, Bob Miller, John Slattery, Milt Lewis & Roger Sharp. Tracy went upstate to WTEN, now retired, don't know Storm's whereabouts, but this was when the news was worth watching!
Storm Field, Born Elliott David Field, November 25, 1948 (age 75) Field was let go by WWOR in 2007 after ten years due to cutbacks at both WWOR and its sister station, WNYW, and was replaced by former WCBS weather personality Audrey Puente. He retired shortly thereafter. Field has two daughters and lives in Westchester County, New York.
I can’t get enough of it! I get chills. I think it is a wonderful news orchestral piece. I could play it on repeat tbh. I’m also in tv news. None of the local news intro music is like this anymore.
The people were definitely more professional and eloquent in their speaking. I don't watch television, so when I do see some of the modern days news anchors, it's.. shocking.
Thanks for the memories ✌🏽🙏🏾 Bill Beutel the only one I recognized in this video😳 he died saturday , March 18 2006 at the age of 75 🤔 I was 18 years old when I started watching channel 7 In nyc...didn’t speak any English but did learn a lot by watching 'Eyewitness’
I was 11-1980 was a fun year. I didn't give two shits about politics, religion or anything like that. I lived in Southern California and I was only interested in the NFL and skateboarding.
October 8, 1980 (I was 8 year old at that time) I was in my 6th year in The Bronx when all this was happening. The NYCTA buses and subway cars were experiencing a Graffiti pandemic. Carter will lose the presidency to Reagan a month later. This new decade would start a development for me that will garnish so many awards along the way
Tomorrow will be John Lennon's 40th Birthday. His last. In five days I will be 15. I was born on Lenny Bruce's and Margaret Thatcher's 40th birthday. It would be Lenny's last.
The Boy Band Cons” documentary brought me here. Late Alan Gross was telling the story of Jordache Blimp crash, and how Lou Pearlman purposely orchestrated this disaster to get a $3 Million insurance.
No big fancy graphics and stingers. Creative writing that told the story. No obsession with the present tense. A real sense that the journalists were having fun as they reported the news. I wish local news was more like this.
They noted in the promo they were on late, which suggested this was following Game 2 of the National League Championship Series at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia between the Phillies and Houston Astros which I believe started at 3:05 PM ET and was three hours, 34 minutes in length as the Astros won 7-4 in 10 innings.
@3:12 PLOT TWIST: After watching this Newscast, a new group of burglars broke in and stole every piece of paper in the house, leaving the family destitute.
Real news from real people who actually fact checked their work and took pride in their reporting....so much better than what we have now with fake news and fake people...
"Real news from real people who actually fact checked their work and took pride in their reporting...." sounds like now, but you wouldn't know anything about today's news.
It's funny how it took so long for people who are in charge of these big media news stations to figure out putting beautiful women on screen instead of old dudes would be good for ratings.

Roger Grimsby, "Jeans weren't made for blimps." Straight faced. Here I'm dying 🤣 Loved him & Bill Beutel.

@@DonKeecock Thanks for the update. I remember he worked at Ch. 2 as well. I'd like to know what ever happened to Chee Chee Williams?
I wish Channel 7 would bring back the Cool Hand Luke theme. I love it.
@@sillygoose635 your opinion
@@sillygoose635It sounds pretty smooth to me
That theme song brings back childhood memories.

R.I.P Roger Grimsby Bill Beutel Roger Sharp n John Slattery
I'm from long Island this is a part of my childhood
I remember that drought of 1980. My Dad dug a hole in our back yard and pumped ground water out to water the garden. Scary times. Thanks.
This is so much more interesting than the news of today!
not true.
@@sillygoose635 opinion something you can’t judge
@@sillygoose635He said interesting - not sad and pathetic
Interesting because we know how it all turned out. Today, we think the media was somehow different. It's still the same ol same ol.

Me too. I didn't come around until the end of the decade lol.

Good evening. I'm Roger Grimsby, here now the news.
Bill Beutel was the nicest newsman opposite Roger Grimsby
Great Video

Roger's dry humor gets to me when I was tuned in to Eyewitness News WABC-TV with my parents

RIP Bill Beutel (1930 - 2006) I was 12 in 1980, he was 49.
He anchored channel 7 eyewitness news for many years.
He died at age 75 in 2006
Can you please upload Eyewitness News from 1971 when Peter Jennings anchored with Bill Beutel. Peter was subbing for Roger Grimsby.
Grimsby must have thrown out one of his priceless asides as they were all fighting laughter when Tracy Egan was tossing back to Bill.
This was also my 12th birthday! Cool!
When NEWS was NEWS and not activist telling everyone how they should feel.
Real New Yorkers remember and love this.
Lol
Miss 1980 wanna. Relive. My. Senior. Year. Wanna. Relive. 1980
I'm sorry 😢
A lot of top local stories, thanks for uploading. I guess Gabe Pressman was at WNBC at this time.

You can still see many gaffes and wisecracks if you watch news blooper compilations on YT. ;)

Here on Oct. 8 2024 reliving my young adulthood.
What type of social media existed back then?
Best lineup in NY market for news.
Boy I guess in Hindsight; Roger Grimsby did have a little smile now and then. But I did like him and Bill reading the news back then.
Can you leap me locate a news coverage regarding refugees arriving at JFK, May 21st 1986? News aired a few days later, I think.
Not FAKE NEWS.
I want to see Jon Johnson reporting about The Son of Sam. The way he said "The Son of Sam... or the 44 Caliber Killer" is etched in my mind.
0:22 It was up for about two minutes….
