Actually we only starting to say Autumn not that long ago, we said Fall lots of my grandparents still said fall who were born the turn of the last century around 1900.Autumn only been said here for about two hundred years( Ilooked it up) but as I say many areas in the UK still said Fall until quite recently, maybe some still do.
@@sarahwardle5556Autumn is French, we only started saying it around 200 years or so ago was fall before that! So America has kept the original English word Fall.
Oh Caroline, you trooper. Your support of your friend is measureless. Love your shoe cupboard! A positive and rewarding end to your very difficult day. Take care of you too. 💝
I am so glad Ron is doing ok after his funny turn ❤ my mother has the same Vax the design is pants I spent ages in her back garden last year trying to clean the thing out 🤦🏻♀️
Hi Caroline. So glad your kitty has made a recovery and you can still give him his best life. Wow, 20 years old is incredible. 3 weeks ago we lost our beautiful Benji, (Maltese Shih-Tzu) he was 16 & a half, had a wonderful life with us from Uk to France and back the last 18 months. He got cancer and we had 2 days to process it all and because he was in pain we had to do what was kind to him. To say we are heart broken is an understatement. When you don’t have children, your animals are your fur babies. I’ve been grieving him so badly. So we’ve booked a 12 days cruise on Cunards latest ship to the Fjords and I think it will help us at this sad time. So sorry about your friends daughter. So many sad stories at the moment, so we appreciate your cheerful vlogs. Sending love x
It's a good sign if Ron is still enjoying his food! Years ago, we babysat a 24 year old cat. He ate chopped up raw kidneys. Still had an appetite but he had lumps under his fur, screeched like he was in some kind of pain and didn't always make it to the litter box. He was very much loved by his owners.
What’s funny, is being from the states, I love the terminology of certain things the British way. I watch so much utube, and English ladies will say a phrase that’s so different from what Americans say, and I love it and try to use that instead.
Hope that shoe cupboard decluttering made you feel better, I wish I had your skill at decisions on what to keep/discard etc. I am just about to empty a plastic container and put some of my summer shoes/sandals away - they have been in there all summer not worn, as we didn’t really have the weather! As I am going on holiday this Saturday I am only retrieving the ones I am likely to wear and the rest go in a spare bedroom until I return and have time to attack the job. This video was a bit of light relief in some ways, as I feel some of the sadness about loss/impending loss as you do. Life is so precious, we need to be very serious about it’s use.
Caroline, I'm sorry for your loss. My condolences to your friend, her family, and you. Quite glad Ron perked up for you. I had a cat live to 23, they can worry you so!
Totally agree about the American words we are in UK FGS! Sorry for your friends’s loss very sad. BTW I’ve just come back from Santorini 30 degrees !! Take me back !🙏
Definitely zed 👍. I'll be having a shoe declutter later today once the carpet fitter has finished laying my new carpet as I'll be putting shoes back into the bottom of the wardrobes and definitely minus a few. Going to be ruthless.........I think.......🙄😂. BTW, you really suit the red top 👍
Hi Caroline. So sorry for your friend's loss. It's heartbreaking. Glad to hear Ron's well again. No point me doing a shoe declutter. I dont have that many and what I do have, I tend to wear my favourites. I'm so with you on the many American words we are now using. Yes, it's zed. It's merry Christmas not happy holidays and my biggest bug is the high fives! Why I ask myself. I also notice we are big on Halloween now. Never used to be such a big thing. Love your varied content xx
Hi Caroline! 👋 Completely agree about our language. Drives me mad. My particular bugbear is 'alternate' used instead of 'alternative', as in 'I have an alternate suggestion'. Wrong, wrong, wrong! 🤬 Aww, poor old Ron... you may remember me mentioning my 21 year old puss-cat Maisie. We had to say goodbye to her back in May. 💔 She was tired and we could tell she just wanted to go to sleep. Ron will let you know when he's ready but hopefully he'll stick around for a bit longer, staining your carpet and being grumpy! 😊 Sending love, I hope Cameron's funeral was/ will be healing for all concerned. Xxx
I had a similar upright carpet cleaner which absolutely soaked my carpets and made them smell damp for days afterwards so I gave it away and bought a smaller one with a hand held cleaning tool. Much neater to put away. However I hadn't factored in my age and fitness - after crawling around the floor scrubbing I had days of aching all over and feeling about 100 years old.
I had a similar experience with an upright, bought a smaller hand one, think it's really for furniture, and like you hadn't really factored in the crawling about on the floor.😀
Hi Caroline. Bless Ron, I am so glad to hear he is a bit perkier. Totally agree with you on the Americanisation of British English. Train station? No, it's a railway station. Cops? No, they're police. And a post-mortem is carried out on dead people, not an autopsy. Grrrrrr.
Hi Caroline. You are a good friend. You obviously felt your friends pain. Hugs and kisses to both of you. I am from Australia and I totally agree about our English language. It is going to the dogs as we say here. When a shopping centre has large banners up with the word Center what hope is there. If they can’t get it right. The kids are confused.
Morning Caroline,as always enjoyed your vlog so sorry for your friends loss and the emotions this is bringing and as you said you not hear for the sad things in life but honestly Caroline it part of all our lives and i think you do so well to bring us up lifting things but sometimes we can not be happy happy all the time. I also think the British language is been turned up side down with all the words that are been changed iv seen it with my grandchildren i must say i do correct them, i do think i need to clear my shoes out too iv got shoes that are so old but i really find i use them on different occasions and fined i get them all out and put them all back lol thank you for the vlog ❤😊x
I agree wholeheartedly about the Vax machine. I had one myself years ago and spent ages looking for the button to take off the plastic top to find it didn't exist. I ended up giving it to a daughter who'd moved into a house with carpets she couldn't afford to replace immediately. That one did end up at the tip! Also agree about the English language. We are British, Not American! xx
Hi Caroline. So sorry to hear about your friend's son, I can't think of anything worse. I totally agree with you about Americanisms, keep the british words. Why have we got .....pants instead of trousers ----- store instead of shop --- mall instead of shopping center --- fall instead of autumn. I could go on and I do agree about zed. Rant over. 🙂
I LOVE Butter Beans - A favourite Soup of mine is Red Pesto & Butter Bean out of the Soup Bible I think. I make it regularly during the Winter months. Also a much-loved Stew is Hearty Barley Chicken Pot, from a very old Sainsburys Recipe card. It is made with Chicken thighs, Carrots, Red Onion, Pearl Barley & Cannellini Beans, finished off with a good swirl of Single Cream.
Morning Caroline I can’t imagine what your best friend is going through, to lose a child (adult or child) is probably most parents’ nightmare, but you just being there is I’m sure a godsend. On a lighter note, the Americanisation of British English…. I’m actually American by birth but have lived in the UK since the age of 4 (61 now) my Dad is retired US military and just stayed here, as you do! This does mean that I have used both American English and British English my entire life so it really does not bother me but saying that complete understand your frustration and I would never deliberately use the American version of a word here, but often do when talking to my Dad. Anyhoo, have waffled enough 😜 bye for now x
@@CarolineMrsM Also Caroline, I swapped out my Vionic insoles from an old tired pair to a pair of trainers I use for gardening and it’s made a huge difference to the comfort of those
I totally agree with the language, I get annoyed when Santa is used instead of Father Christmas. On the food ideas, Mousska made with puy lentils + some chopped carrots, with a topping of Greek yogurt mixed with an egg & cheese instead of the usual topping is really nice. ❤
Hi Caroline.I am in New Zealand and I found out about Vivaia shoes through you!Anyway, I was talking to a friend's young neighbour today.I would say she was early 20's.She had the most gorgeous pair of red flats on.I said to her, Vivaia's?She said Yes! how did I know about them.I said through you on UA-cam!😊
Omg its not only me, it is zed. Both my young grandsons come out with words like dumpster elovater and such like and it irritates the shit out of me. So sorry again about your family loss.
Having lived in Texas for a number of years, when I worked at the local university I had to use Americanisms against my better instincts. I had to use zee instead of zed otherwise nobody would understand me. I was laughed at for saying rubbish instead of trash. ( in a friendly manner😊). Did you know that Canadians say zed too? Good for them I say. I too love British traditions and language.
Very happy Ron is feeling better. Yes, hang on to your British names for things. I'm Canadian and feel a little sad that there is only one word supposedly for anything. I refuse to give into that idea.😊
Hi Caroline, thinking of all those who have had such a shocking loss, friendship is so important at these awful times of sorrow. It’s a gift to be able to be with those who we love so much and so essential for them too. This was an interesting vlog thank you. I’m going to use your hello fresh code so looking forward to that. The warm sunny September days have been an uplift. As for Carla saying “zee” obviously she’ll need to pay a forfeit 😂😂you’re very forgiving of course 😆We need to keep ENGLISH English. My pet hate is people who say in a shop for instance “can I get a coffee?” Can I get. No. You can have one though. Glad that good old Ron is better that’s a relief. Have you ever read any Elizabeth Strout, I’m enjoying her insightful writing. Lucy by the sea was lovely.
Recently heard an Australian version of the ABC song ending WXYZed or Zee, obviously needing to keep the American Z to complete the rhyme.....!! and how I hate "fall" - autumnal is such a wonderful description for the whole season, a particular day, a particular mood - just doesn't work with "feels very fallen"!!!
I live in Australia & I correct my Grandchildren all the time . Also my Year 1 Granddaughter was saying the Alphabet & I was horrified when she said the American of Z. I gave her a whole explanation of our Language. She’s Australian 😁
Love your videos, im a fairly new subscriber, really enjoying the content. I hope you make the bowel kit a priority as it was quite literally a life saver for me back in 2015. I had no symptoms at all previously. Glad to report that all ok now.
I wonder if for the car park using “License Plate” rather than registration plate it is because the system/software is set to American English and there may not be an option to change it (or someone hasn’t bothered).
An absolute must for us in the Autumn is Sausage Leek & Potato carsserolel You make the leek & potato soup as you would normally do and keep a seperate pot and add the sausage with some carrotts and a small onion. So you actually get a soup and a main. Its delicious. Just fry or grill the sausage fist before you add to your pot. Then simmer on low heat for aroun 15 mins. I sometimes even cut up some small potatoes and add them also. Yum! Yes, I have noticed a lot of "Americanisms" in our language nowadays, one of my pet peeves is the date. We say Wednesday 26th September, NOT Septermber 26th! Lol. Would you mind me asking where you got your nude evening shoes you showed in your declutter please? Also sending prayers to your dear friend . So sad.
So sorry for your friend's loss. You're right, no parent should bury their child. That is so sad. Yep, globalization is to blame for your complaint about losing British words/phrases. I follow several UA-camrs from the UK and I rather enjoy learning all the different ways you say things than we do (I'm American). Like hoovering for vacuuming and most especially I have picked up how you all tack on a question at the end of some sentences. And I think it's fun :) So here's an example right there: It's rather fun, isn't it? It's that "isn't it?" that I've picked up and now use. I rather enjoy it. One word I just do not understand however: aluminum. It's not aluminium, is it? (see I did it again? ha!) Wind screen? Um, there's no screen there so I'll stick with windshield 🤗 Anyway, yes it's globalization and I think it's here to stay. I have wanted to commend you for how you go through things regularly. I am in the midst of moving house and my goodness but I wish I had done the decluttering that you do regularly. If I had, I'd have been done weeks ago. Alas....I'm still going through old things but I can finally see the light at the end of that tunnel, whew!! Maybe in my new place I'll adopt your decluttering routine on a regular basis. Nice job on the shoes! (sorry for such a long comment!)
The vivaia shoes, how wide fit are they as I cocked up getting a pair of lace up boots (unworn from vinted), that I resold again. I don't want to get a pair of flats and find they're too flipping tight either! Nothing like a good shoe declutter.
So sorry to hear about your beloved cat🐈 My cat Dorie lived to be 21, died of old age peacefully.😢 She had a good long life though❤❤ I agree with you about Americanisms creeping in everywhere, really grinds my gears 😐 the way they pronounce 'privacy' seems to have been adopted by lots of British folk now. Drives me mad.🙄🤨🤯
Your rant is so funny because this drives me mad too - the license plate thing is just that whoever bought the software bought it from the US developer and didn’t pay to change it. The one that really grates is people who say ‘gotten’ - it’s not a British English word, never has been! 😤 there are many others of course and it all comes from people’s obsession with watching awful US reality (& other) tv series (also, series, not seasons in this context 😂) I have to say, the coral red you are wearing in your rant looks fabulous on you. Decluttering is good for the mind and sole - take care
On the subject of the Americanisation of British English, I've noticed that we are adopting "swim lessons" for swimming lessons, and "shave foam" for shaving foam. I expect it's the internet that's to blame, irritating as it is. I've also noticed UK youtubers (not yourself) using US phraseology in their delivery. Also irritates the hell out of me, or should that be "hellatta me?" Thanks for keeping me company this Saturday morning. xx
So sorry about your loss. I would recommend the book "The Lost Words" by Robert Macfarlane for any child's stocking this Christmas. "All over the country, there are words disappearing from children's lives. These are the words of the natural world; Dandelion, Otter, Bramble and Acorn, all gone. A wild landscape of imagination and play is rapidly fading from our children's minds."
Thank you for sharing that book, it looks lovely. I think this is one thing for which the blame can be squarely laid at parents' feet, imagine not valuing the natural world around us enough to want to share it with your children and teaching them about it. Unthinkable in my world.
Hi Caroline. I used to work for Laura Ashley in Stratford upon Avon ( some years before it's sad demise). I was a " sales ADVISOR I thought I was ' sales ADVISER'. Is it me?! Xx
LOL being Canadian, we say "zed" but our products have expiration dates, don't use the word autumn all that much although my niece is named Autumn. We too have many US expressions creeping in and as long as they are efficient, I'm okay with that. I use a jet of water in my laundry sink to flush out the plastic in my rug shampooer so perhaps you could try it with a hose? So glad Ron is okay and I truly empathize with your friend as my daughter died 10 years ago. I had to put her 14 year old cat down a few weeks ago and it was heartbreaking. I am sure they are together now. Loved your shoe declutter but I wondered why you didn't move the summer shoes up to a higher shelf and bring down the more autumnal ones for easy access. It's hard to see the extent of the closet so perhaps it just makes sense to you to leave them as they are. Again, deepest sympathies on such a horrible loss.
So sad for you, it must have been such a wrench losing your daughter's cat recently, lovely that you are able to think of them together now, a little bit of comfort :). You're right about the summer/autumn shoes, let's just say I wasn't thinking straight that afternoon!
Hi Caroline, can I just say I really don't like the word Autumnal 😂 it's not a word I grew up with. I don't remember anyone saying until a few years ago.
Hannibal Lecture comes to mind 🤣👍🏻 but if it does the trick ! Let us know your opinion xx. Americans make ridiculous words up , I hate it. We must not loose our language along with anything else
Hello Caroline, we are losing our language. Aluminum instead of aluminium. Normalcy, instead of normality and dont get me started on GOTTEN. Get me , instead of please can i have, grrrr. Soda instead of fizzy drink, ❤Gill
Uk vloggers in the uk who talk in American dollars rather than British pounds. I understand they have American viewers. But when I watch USA content I don’t expect they to convert everything to GBP. Talk in the currency of your country, please. If I need to know the current conversion rates, I’ll google it.
Cannot agree with you more about Americanisms inflating the English language! Lieutenant, patriotic etc are a couple of others that annoy me intensely .
As a American I don’t blame you. But of course our language is all bastardization of all languages since we are a melting pot country so ours is always changing. But I hate the way people say now (example) me and Ashley are going out. 😡I and Ashley!!! How do you say your abc’s ? w x y z?PS you ever watch Across the Pond on you tube ?
Don't get me going on american words 10 year old granddaughter watches american UA-cam conand she sometimes speaks with an american accent it drives me bananas I've we have banned her from american content 😮

We love to add pulses to stews and casseroles, but can't beat a cassoulet! My husband makes all kinds of riffs on it - including spicy. 😊
Oh yes, love a cassoulet!
Thank you, and welcome to my channel :)
Know what you mean about the Vax carpet cleaner! Ours clogged and we couldn’t get to the blockage and it ended up at the tip almost new.
So sad.
Sounds delicious! Shoes were New Look several years ago.
@@CarolineMrsM Thank you 😃
Hi Caroline - and you yourself said "take it to the dump" instead of " take it to the tip"!
My family have always referred to it as a ‘rubbish dump’, I’m pretty sure it’s just an alternative word rather than an Americanism
Hi Caroline. U are a great person to your friend she is lucky to have your friend ship a jewelry declutter sometime
Wow 20yrs old both my cats got to 17yrs xxx
“Like” has suddenly become a significant word. Try and count how many times you hear it !
Never apologise for a long comment, I really enjoyed reading it! :)
@@CarolineMrsM 🤗
I love the orange top on you that is also your color.
Thank you!
Trousers not "pants",other vloggers ! ❤
I understand the language thing being from the USA I wouldn't want our words to change to the British version
Exactly! Quite agree with you, we should all be proud of our language.
Wow!
With regard to something specific?!
Yes but I shouldn't have said anything. @@CarolineMrsM
@@CMR497 don’t worry, you didn’t
Power outages instead of power cuts is one that annoys me.
agree about the Vax, I hate mine, impossible to clean!
The vivaia shoes, how wide fit are they as I cocked up getting a pair of lace up boots (unworn from vinted), that I resold again. I don't want to get a pair of flats and find they're too flipping tight either! Nothing like a good shoe declutter.
I have wide feet and they are very comfortable on me, if that helps.
So sorry to hear about your beloved cat🐈 My cat Dorie lived to be 21, died of old age peacefully.😢 She had a good long life though❤❤
I agree with you about Americanisms creeping in everywhere, really grinds my gears 😐 the way they pronounce 'privacy' seems to have been adopted by lots of British folk now. Drives me mad.🙄🤨🤯
I agree with you completely, why is everyone speaking in American terms. Another one is Autumn, not fall.I hate it also. From Australia. 🌺
Your rant is so funny because this drives me mad too - the license plate thing is just that whoever bought the software bought it from the US developer and didn’t pay to change it. The one that really grates is people who say ‘gotten’ - it’s not a British English word, never has been! 😤 there are many others of course and it all comes from people’s obsession with watching awful US reality (& other) tv series (also, series, not seasons in this context 😂)
I have to say, the coral red you are wearing in your rant looks fabulous on you.
Is it me?! Xx
The Americans use the term ‘burglarised’ for being burgled!! I agree we should keep our words! 😃
I know i am weird but I only have 4 pairs of shoes 😂
Oo forget the slippers , so 5
LOL being Canadian, we say "zed" but our products have expiration dates, don't use the word autumn all that much although my niece is named Autumn.
Totally agree with you about the English words, I can’t stand it either.
Sausage casarole in slow cooker xxx
Yum!
❤
Hi Caroline. Jewelry decu
Aeroplane not airplane, drives me mad! xx
Oh Caroline, I am so with you on the American words in the English language. It drives me mad 😠
It's definitely zed not zee LOL and what's with the spelling of mum now they all put mom, im 70 so I'm old school. Great vlog thank you x
Yes, but you get to say those Americanisms in a British accent, so there is that! 😂
Hello Caroline, we are losing our language. Aluminum instead of aluminium. Normalcy, instead of normality and dont get me started on GOTTEN. Get me , instead of please can i have, grrrr. Soda instead of fizzy drink, ❤Gill
Oh yes, I am not at all keen on Gotten!
❤❤ 👍👍
"PANTS" are not womens TROUSERS!!! My husband wears pants under his trousers (well I hope he still does😅😮) so annoying.
Oh this made me giggle!!
Yeah "pants instead of trousers" drives me nuts. Lol. Also I have always known pants as underwear! 😂
My pet hate in Americanisation of speech is ‘ you guys’. I am a 72 year old widow and do not want to be addressed as a guy.
Definitely with you on the Americanisations of our language……infuriating 😬☹️☹️
Uk vloggers in the uk who talk in American dollars rather than British pounds.
I understand they have American viewers.
But when I watch USA content I don’t expect they to convert everything to GBP.
Talk in the currency of your country, please. If I need to know the current conversion rates, I’ll google it.
Unless it’s a financial advice based content. Then I do understand.
But I’m talking about general content vloggers.
Ugh, hate Americanisation: autumn, not fall; got, not gotten;
Cannot agree with you more about Americanisms inflating the English language! Lieutenant, patriotic etc are a couple of others that annoy me intensely
.
Doesn’t do well when I mis-spell infiltrating🤣
Gave up , couldn’t see anything, shame . ❤
Sorry to hear that
As a American I don’t blame you.
SHEDule not SKEDule😤
Don't get me going on american words 10 year old granddaughter watches american UA-cam conand she sometimes speaks with an american accent it drives me bananas I've we have banned her from american content 😮
