This week I designed a dice (or die) that will allow me to win at snakes and ladders every single time. I used an Arduino with some basic electronics equipment, electromagnets with magnets embedded in a loaded dice that gave the result I wanted. - Розваги
Petition for Mike to learn how to walk on his hands
Starts now
That'd be a good one. +1 from me
I am supporting this immediately without a doubt!
But wait...
Plus one!
Petition for Mark Rober and Mike to collab
What I love is that his family knows what he does, so he could easily be like "I wanted to learn how to roll dice in the best way possible to win games of chance"
Delightfully silly flipping the dice on them after it stopped moving
Haha yeah, love it
Yeah I think that's what makes this video great. For any other person the dice would be the obvious suspect.
Me the fact that the camera can hear the switch flicking is a sure sign that that switch is loud as f*** against the glass they know what's up and they're just a good family
Mike joins the ranks of UA-cam Makers after making a "chess cheating device"
I don't know if it will work but maybe you can reduce the current so that the probability of getting a 6 is not at 100% and that rolling the dice looks more natural
I agree. I immediately suspected the die was NOT tumbling naturally.
@@tonybowers9490 Yeah me too, something about the video title and first half of the video tipped me off that this might not be a fair dice
@@scotttaylor6748i immediately suspected it was magnets because of the way the die snapped into 6
Haha, true, i would love to see the result of that
@@paper2222me too
Dude, am I the only one who actually thought that Mike learned the art of a perfect dice roll from the thumbnail??!
I also thought the exact same too lmao 😅 but it's a trick
Would have loved a part at the end, where you revealed the secret to them.
I would like to see this too.
i imagine they may be in on the secret, or if they weren't explicitly told, maaaaaaaaaybe the execution is not so easy to hide from your family
as people said, the switch can be heard, the installation is a bit large, the die quite big too and would feel quite heavy, the set-up is a bit clunky and finally, the dice does change its path quite strangely
besides, if he did this while around his family, they might have seen some of the behind-the-scenes
it's still a cute video but they may have not played along enough for a good video-worthy reveal
or at all, maybe he just added in post the cheeky voice-over when mike just told them 'see how reliable i could make it'
They all knew very early, it's very obvious.
"Sometimes it looks a bit suspicious." Like, every roll?
a proper loaded die that you palm out is actually a lot harder to detect, but MUCH harder to use. you have to palm the regular die when you pick it up to roll, then roll your loaded die that was already in your palm, then you have to palm up the loaded die after your roll, leaving behind the regular die. doing that swap seamlessly is really hard and takes practice. a good loaded die has no obvious tell its loaded though because it only changes the odds. the magnetic die is extremely obvious lol
If you rolled it into a glass bowl on the table you would only need one electromagnet as the dice would naturally settle in the middle. So it wouldn’t appear to be “snapping” to a specific location each time. You could also turn down the magnetism with this setup for a more natural bounce and roll.
Amazing. Thinking about it a little, and you have the perfect excuse for keeping the dice tray in the correct spot: under the camera!
I would loved to see the reactions after they figured out out though.
I enjoy all of your videos. Perfect for watching on a lunch break. My favorite type of video that you make are the ones where you take a skill that seems frustratingly difficult but that some people are able to do effortlessly, and you teach yourself to do it. Spinning a basketball, throwing cards, keepie ups... these are the ones that got me hooked.
I would love to see more arduino projects. They're fun to watch and are good inspiration
Loved this, glad to see you are finding new ways of making videos with a similar feel to your usual videos!
I really liked this style of video. Freshened things up

Great video! Just would have liked to see an actual reveal to your "victims'" where you remove the table cloth. Even though I'm quite sure they have an idea how it works
You know, if you use the right magnetic field configuration, you could potentially make it flip between the intermediate numbers by aligning the magnetic fields such that north and south poles of the magnets align parallel to the table surface rather than perpendicular
edit: I will say something thou, you have leveled up your making to a pretty damn high level, nicely done!
he is not an engineer cut him some slack
Well, there's only 3 possible main-axis configurations, so you can't get all 6 numbers, some of them have to be repeated - with the die in the video, a sideways roll could be any of the 4 remaining numbers.
Now, if you set it up with a quadrupole/octupole configuration, then maybe....
Love the new video. Nicely stilized and very funny. Would have loved to see more the process of you learning how to work the elektronics.
Also if anyone knows some good resources to learn this stuff that would be very welcome
I like this type of video. Fun. Always excited to see what magnets can do!
Really clever and simple solution. Love it!
Mike this video is absolutely incredible. Job well done with the project!
Good to see that Mike can even learn to win a game of pure chance 😅
Also despite my love for Arduinos, I must point out that you could have also done this with a DPDT switch on its own, as long as the current isn't too crazy 😉 though the Arduino does open up the possibility of having other means of controlling it, like a foot switch or a remote of some sort.
Fun video. How did you disguise the loud clicking sound when switching polarity when you were playing and trying not to be caught?
@@SinclairWest From what I could see/hear he had a big clicky switch to change the polarity. I think you can hear it click at 5:59 when he turns it off.
You may be right though, just that the sound to me is clearly like a switch and not the muffled sound of a die on a die tray. :)
EDIT: I also seem to hear the click and the die sound as separate sounds in the segment starting at 6:00.
@@SinclairWest You can clearly hear electrical relays clicking, which is what you'd need to control high current devices like electromagnets.
@@Guysm1l3yMosfet would do for a quick video
@@minister6667 you're right, should've listened more closely.
So yeah then I have no clue how he concealed that...
@@SinclairWest Might just be some youtuber shenanigans going on but no matter the case, still a fun and entertaining video.
You can see its magnetic from miles away! 😂 but good job on the execuion 😊
Greatest thing i watched this month. Pure quality. Just wow
One of your best projects yet. So simple but very funny.
That is pure brilliance -- well done, Mike!
Amazing ! Let's go for more videos like this one, very creative !
Cool and dramatic production while making the dice
I loved this one! Any vid you put out is a good one Mike!
Finally, another masterpiece from Mike!
Keep up the good work dude!
Love it! Put a smile on my face
Would love to see you learn to set dice next!
Loved this one, Superb.
As usual, another banger! Great vid, super fun to watch.
Absolutely amazing!
They were so nice, they all took it so well. :D
First thoughts is that it's voice activated and uses magnets... will edit when I have watched
50% right, great video Mike!
@@shadowghostlegend3926magnets for me
Ha Nice that was pretty funny
thats what I thought as well... "i could really use a ONE right now" lol
I'd definitely love more of these videos. So entertaining 😂😂😂
Make any videos. It’s your personality that makes you a joy to watch.
Another great video Mike
You've done the impossible Mr Boyd. You've actually made it possible to have fun playing snakes and ladders. That dice looked perfect by the way.
this was a great video i really loved it mike
This video style where you build something is really cool!
Nice music choices, really liked the editing overall : ) !
This was a lot of fun to watch!
More of this please.
This was wonderful :) A lot´s of fun.
“I wonder why we have an unironed bedsheet on this glass table of ours. I’m sure it’s nothing suspicious.”
More of this!!
That was hilarious. I'm glad they all obviously love you!
These days it's rare for a video to put a smile on my face. But this time it did. Hope to see more vids like this in the future!
I'm happy when I see you happy. Wonderfully wholesome video, thanks ^_^
i kept reading the title as "it's impossible to lose this dice"
Love that kind of content!
This only really works against people that have never seen a dice roll in their life, but the making of the dice and the setup was cool
Very enjoyable video!
insanely entertaining work!
Finally a Mike Boyd video!!
Last time I was here was 6 years ago with you doing the card throwing tricks. Good job with the channel growth Mike!
another awesome video mike
Wow! You're just like Billy Mitchel! You both inspire me!
Such a fun video love it
Its always a good time when mike uploads
The style of this video was amazing, great work.
Nice vid. Loved it
Loved this
This was so funny and joyful to watch.
*I LOVE the chap’s accent.*
So adorable.
Pure entertainment, I really enjoyed it!
Bro I just had a good laugh! It was funny that he switched the dice in front of their face😂 good stuff mike
ladders or mountains, mike is climbing them !
Very good video probably the best I’ve seen for a while
cool dice, mike boyd!
Love it!
Best Mike Boyd video yet :D
This is an amazing video mike. Haven't laughed this much from a youtube video in a while. Really loved the style of video. Would love more
The way they come to a stop is so natural and smooth, there's no way you can spot the shenanigans. Clocks tick or click like that and maybe a mosquito bit your knee, it itches. But you should do a humorous version of this and make it obvious HA ha ha ha
ha
If you are a really good con artist and understand the game really really well, you literally need a 2-3 times the help of the device and you can basically convert any game
Very very entertaining new format
Love the videos👍
This is such a fire channel and video
Perfect music choice!
Great video 👍👍
That was really fun.
Love your videos
I like the use of electrical engineering!
That is the coolest sponsor I've ever seen a youtuber get
Okay that was very amusing, well done sir
Awesome, i wonder if there is a magnet orientation that you could chose what ever number you want. Maybe you could at least get 4
Man this was awesome
Like you, Ive been wanting to do this as a prank for years 😂. Its great getting to see someone else living out your dream
Those reactions were *chef's kiss* 👌🏽
The juxtoposition of playing Snakes and Ladders on cardboard but rolling into a custom velvet dice catch.
I need a sound clip of that BAM!
Really loved the video mate 😁😂😂
MONOPOLY bout to be CRAZY!!! 🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥
Great video
The next step would be fitting the dice with 6 electromagnets, a wirelessly-chargable battery and a wireless controller to decide which face gets magnetized, and then make the rolling surface a thin sheet of iron.
This way you could actually roll whatever number you like.
Mike! Absolutely brilliant! The next video upload "Trust Issues - Should I Apologize?" out soon 😁👍‼
The "Cheeky-ness" of this video is amazing.
Subtly/harmlessly messing with someone in a way thats hilarious
I do enjoy this type of content
