Thank you Jinkx. I very nearly gave up on myself. During my lowest point I found your UA-cam and can confidently say you’ve been a major part in helping me accept and love myself. You saved my life and changed the lives of all the people around me.
*Fair warning: this is lengthy.* I think few would argue that Jinkx and her ascendancy with "Drag Race" is hugely inspirational, especially to teenagers struggling to find anywhere to fit in, but she also represents those of us out there that have always dreamed of being a contestant on "Drag Race" but have always let our inner saboteur win. It's a common misconception that the drag world is open and accepting of everyone, but that is simply not true at all. It's populated almost entirely by those who, after years of being bullied and ostracized, have found the great power within themselves to manifest who we always wanted to be. It's truly a beautiful thing, but it can also be dangerous if a queen misuses that power to bully or ostracize others just like they once were. The prom queen may have been pretty and popular, but was she also a bitch that looked down her nose at everybody else? Even so, somehow everybody still liked her, so why not adapt that power trip for you as well? Therein lies the real occupational hazard of drag.
Jinkx, as far as I can judge from her appearances on television and countless UA-cam videos of her performing worldwide, somehow managed to avoid that toxicity. She seems genuine, kind, and relatable. If ever you needed confirmation that embodying those words are powerful, look no further.
To return to my original point, when Jinkx won Season Five she was FAR from being polished and her competitors - who instead often embodied the prom queen attitude - continually underestimated her. In the world where the marginalized and ostracized should be a bit more compassionate but too often never learn to be so, Jinkx Monsoon won the crown with sheer talent but couldn't show her joy at winning because one of the other two on that couch with her was devastated and couldn't help but throw a tantrum. Go find it - Jinkx looked miserable in the first minute after she was named the winner.
Years later, I'll admit that after seeing the incredible cast, I wasn't certain whether Ms. Monsoon could pull off another win. Even having followed Jinkx's career from afar, I knew she'd progressed light years beyond her aesthetic in Season Five, but I was stunned to see just how much more perfectly realized she'd become in the years since she last walked the runway. She excelled at nearly every challenge and was a clear front-runner from the first episode.
But could she be "The Queen Among Queens?"
There are some that are loudly saying no and of all people, there's a really unfortunate video of another RuGirl's disgusted reaction that I pray Jinkx doesn't watch because it would simply spoil her moment once again. Say what you will, support who you like, but Jinkx deserved this. All of those queens put a ton of work into that competition and every one of those winners deserve just as much respect, if only for the fact that not a single one of them displayed anything but positivity and respect for each other. In the end, I think it came down to the fact that Jinkx truly embodies one of the quotes RuPaul had written in her autobiography "Lettin' It All Hang Out:"
"Be sweet. There are enough bitchy queens out there."
Jinkx has come so far. She has gone so many places. She's shaken off haters like water off a duck's back. And somehow, she has remained one of the most genuine, lovable personalities to emerge from this pop culture phenomenon. It takes an almost superhuman amount of strength for a queen not to become jaded or prematurely bitter....and few have as many factors to ensure that happens. But Jinkx is just as sweet and sensitive as when she first walked into that pink room in her one-piece swimsuit, floppy hat, and sunglasses.
Had this show we've all fallen so deeply in love with never have gotten the green light more than a decade ago, Jinkx Monsoon would likely still be singing for a crowd of ten people in tiny little coffee shops in Seattle or Portland, backed by Major Scales of course. She would have lived out her life in relative obscurity like so many others that continue to hold onto the dream that one day they'll get the phone call that will change their life, too. The real lesson to learn from Jinkx Monsoon is how she never let that inner saboteur hold her back. She simply believed in herself and realized that in a world where so many others try to bring you down, you're the only person that can sell yourself to the world and if you're that salesperson, you'd better damn well believe in and love yourself.
Because if you can't love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else?

Oh I'm already in love. This was the beginning to my very very favorite TV show ever. Bewitched. I was alive when the first episode aired on Thursday night 1965. I was 6 years old and I remember turning on Channel 4 in San Francisco at 8:00 p.m.. My mom and dad let me stay up late so I can watch it. I saw the first episode when Darren met Samantha and I watched every show until the last day it aired. When Elizabeth Montgomery passed away I cried for a week. I always love the first Darren, Dick York. The second Darren was okay but it was never quite the same. Funny how Dick Sergeant turned out to be gay so that made me love him a little bit more. All right I'm going to shut up and watch this video that's being performed by my favorite Drag Queen and the world's favorite Drag Queen and the Queen of Drag Queens Jinx Monsoon.
