Republicans have been amping up anti-lgbt legislature so the lgbtq+ community have been having to fight tooth and nail to not only gain rights, but to keep the ones they only recently received [when Obama was in office] You got book banning and potential burning out the wazoo, alt right podcasters from the Daily Liar excuse me,...I mean Wire...spreading hate and misinformation painting people who just wanna live their lives in peace like everyone else as these evil predators [when obvi that's slander to fuel fear and hate] We have said podcasters, Bible thumping zealots and elected officials trying to ban books that are seen as "Woke" because gods forbid kids learn people in the LGBTQ+ community exist and are just as human as we are and have a supreme court rigged with trump elected judges salivating at "owning the libs/make libs miserable" at the expense of marginalizing fellow Americans to pander to their entitled, hateful, conservative donors [one said donor being married to an insurrectionist c*nt] Right now what's going on is if the Satanic Panic and Red Scare [ with a hint of fascism] had a baby and fed on steroids. SO to answer your question and reiterate, they want to win their rights to exist, be seen and heard like everyone else whereas conservative extremists are trying to figuratively Thanos snap them out of existence and will if they get their way.

I saw you perform this for the first time at the Jubilee in Edmonton in 2023. I never knew about this song. So, after a very toxic and abusive experience teaching at Edmonton Public Schools which is a very phobic and sexist environment to work in, in being newly out, almost 40, I remember being in the line up to get in and I started crying. I felt safe. After months of hell I finally felt safe. I truly understood for the first time what a safe space was. I cried throughout your whole show. When you sang this song I could feel the power behind it. You introduced it with such respect and grace. Jinkx I’ll never forget this as long as I live. A new core memory. I love this song, Jinx ur voice is amazing, the musical composition was spectacular and the lyrics strong and proud. I hope everyone shares this, and the message that this song contains. It can promote discrimination and segregation of people by SOGI. Now I'm full of anger. We should continue to fight against them for our human rights. We should protect trans folks from their attack. Oh my God, The Lavender Song!!!!! The first original LGBTQ+ rights anthem!
I literally first learnt about this song last year. Listened to both first old German recording and modern day English translation and was absolutely obsessed. I particularly loved Mischa Spoliansky's cover of it. As a history buff I appreciated this song.
To see Mama Monsoon, my favourite Drag Queen of all time, cover those song just fluttered my heart and makes me so freaking happy! Discovering this made my night!!!!
Thankyou Jinkx for bringing this old time song, the first gay anthem in history, an important piece of gay rights history, to modern day audiences. It deserves the recognition and have it's harmony live on.
