@@ATurtlesLife You can't even be a flight attendant without a high school diploma or a GED. Many places look at it as a pretty basic requirement because getting a high school education is free to everyone in America. Even as an adult you can get your high school diploma for free.
Because you loose nothing if you dropout from college you can go and study in Apprenticeship ...

That's the point though, to have different opinions and open up a conversation. They all have different experiences which makes the discussion more interesting. If they all dropped out at the same time and had the same experiences it would be a little bit boring.
Gonna give my perspective as an high school drop out. I'm a rich drop out from high school. Self taught in programming, system administration, business management, hr, etc. Recently sold my company for multiple millions. However, no matter the amount of books I've read and the experience I've accumulated (I'm in my mid 40's), I finally decided to complete my high school and currently taking an online Harvard business school course (CORe Program). Because I need it? no, not at all. I've accountants, brokers, attorneys etc to help me manage my life and I'm an excellent entrepreneur. I just felt a void, and to be honest, shame, and it was on my bucket list. Google famous high school dropouts and you will be surprised at the list of successful people. Dropping college is nothing to be ashamed off (Steve Jobs, Bill Gates for example) but dropping out of high school is kind of embarrassing, at least it was for me.

mcrstan4eva aaa The argument that I’m putting forth is that kids who don’t know the extent of what they’re doing by not paying attention in class and not doing their work should have a wake up call so they could know. It’s not that hard to try, and most kids don’t. I’m actually in school and I see kids failing and the reason they’re failing is because they aren’t trying. The kids who “have trouble learning” adapt and figure it out as well.

I kinda feel like Mariana's dropping out at 13 and being able to just do whatever she wanted afterwards shows she had a lot of privileges in her life. A lot of people who drop out do so because of their circumstances or because the educational system made it impossible for them. I appreciate her point of view but i was having a hard time with it.

I'm not sure how the education system works there, but I dropped out of high school (not at that age, but waaaay older)
But I will definitely say that school puts a lot of pressure on kids.
Starting at age 12 they have to pick which high school they wanna be and we sometimes have high schools that specify in different sub majors (I'll say) and then within the first and second year, most of has to choose what we wanna do in the future, where we want to continue study and where we want to work.
Idk man at age 12 I couldn't even pick what I wanted to eat for dinner, let alone pick a job.
A lot can change in those few years and if you made a mistake, you just kinda wasted a year and have to redo it.
I mean even some people in their 20's still don't know what they wanted to do.
So I think dropping out at 13 to "find yourself" can be pretty reasonable since you don't have all that stress and pressure on you.

You were asking about jobs too, well I was able to make my own money babysitting and working off the books at a pizzeria. Plenty of places will hire off the books, it's not hard to find. You could also walk dogs, mow lawns, etc. You are thinking too narrowly. Just because leaving school wasn't the best option for you at that age that doesn't mean it's the same for everyone. Also not really sure what point your trying to make with "sustain a healthy living situation" ? Unless you go a boarding school than schools don't provide that....
K E that's true I nanny and get paid under the table still even though I do not prefer it for some legal reasons. But in Ga at least, you only have to be 14 to work and be paid on the books and Publix I know hires that young. Some others probably too

I dropped out of high school because I had severe mental health issues. Now I’m about to get my diploma in youth work then head off to university. Just because you dropped out doesn’t mean your going no where in life. Some people flourish inside of the school system and some people flourish outside of it and that’s ok🥰

that's not an excuse , you say that as if those who didn't drop out are perfectly healthy physically and mentally , and if you're not you drop out immediately , my brother has severe depression yet he didn't drop out he kept going until he became a doctor , i've had many health issues as well , I used to seek professional help whenever we could afford it , if not I would deal with it myself , you can't expect the way to be as smooth as possible and give up in the first challenge and just like convince yourself that the reason others didn't give up because they were privileged enough to have a smooth way and an easy life
@@samaradashwood1491 well, mental health is not the same for everyone. Some people can handle them, others don't. I drop out high school bc I have anxiety and panic attacks. even with medical and psychological attention I could not continue high school. And my friends who also had anxiety did graduated. Its just different for everyone.

It exists. Depression is not about sadness or being sad about complex things in life.
I think everyone needs to complete high school or get a GED because you can be severely limited in your options if you don't ... However I don't think finishing college is necessarily important, findig what your are passionate about and finding your calling is important. Working hard towards succeeding in your passion is even more important

Todd Shirey while I don’t find college necessary for everyone, for certain jobs when you’re applying they’re more likely to choose one applicant over another based off of both the degree and the college that degree came from.

lack of chemicals in the brain can be diagnosed at any age. But with her it probably showed more as the physical symptoms; lethargic, sleeping a lot, won't eat, etc.
There's this book... uuugh I'll try to get you the name... it's lists nine causes of depression... While most of them are life experiences, sometimes it's purely a chemical imbalance in the brain. You ever wondered why some people go through such hard situations in life and they emerge okay. Then others ho through some seemingly "less" challenging stuff and they just crumble? The chemical imbalance was already there, it just needed something to trigger it.

Same here! School is compulsory until you're 16. Your parents can be prosecuted if you don't go to school or they have to homeschool you. Just not getting an education isn't an option.

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking this, lmao. Like sis, go to a community college, get an associates degree and you can still attempt to save up and go for bachelors. There was no need to just give up. And you can probably find a state school for a low price too depending where you are located. I hope she's explored all her options. Many people dont realize that it doesnt really matter where you are getting your degrees unless it's a prestigious/exceptional university. Why spend all that money to go to school in Hawaii?? Your networking matters more than your degree.
there’s a lot that goes into ‘affording’ college. I go to CC and even if you qualify for free tuition (promise program) most students still work to pay rent, pay for food, books, gas, a car, everything that goes into life. plus many support their families too. it’s mentally + logistically hard to take necessary time to focus on school when you have other struggles and need to work, and could always be more stable if you work more and spend less time on school - even if community college itself is not expensive
@@g.money888 if she could afford to go to university in Hawaii i assume she can find a way to do community, unless she or her parents have gone completely broke. Even then, you can get aid, and CC is very flexible anyways and many students work and study as well.
@@Ray03595 Speaking from personal experience (after the University I was attending dropped my scholarship due to lack of funds) I attempted to receive aid from CC and because my parents were abusive growing up and even now haven't gotten better, I am unable to receive ANY aid. So if I do take classes it's all out of my pocket. So currently I am working 80 hours a week while taking classes, and it's killing my mental health.

Ghost actually it’s much higher now due to all the new social media platforms and different paths you have now Reason a lot don’t make is because they lack the skills or they just quit early on
Next big thing it’s actually a lot harder now. There are more billionaires than ever before in history but also very very significantly less millionaires in the world. The distribution of wealth is skewing therefore statistically speaking making it more unlikely as time goes.
To anyone who's thinking of dropping out- it's a decision that'll have bigger repercussions than you may think i.e-future job eligibility and income stability....look if you're really passionate about something and you've got a big opportunity in front of you which requires you to dropout then definitely go for it, but if you plan on dropping out to "find yourself" or for mental health...then I'd suggest taking time or semester off but don't drop out in a haste without some kind of counseling first
Make the most educated decision and you will reduce anxiety in your life. Transitioning out of college/high school does not have to be miserable. Prepare

I’m happy you said that I seen comments about how you can work in 13 years old but still theses works won’t keep you alive for long. You may think you can do this but I promise you you can get much better work and work you love doing. Of course if it’s health issues or you had problems in school you can drop out but don’t ever stop education yourself. Go different school or do online school/courses. Do something you love ❤️
Speaking Truth I was pressured by family and society to just go to college so I went and just did a major I didn’t like and that was a waste of a lot of time and effort and mental energy and was just traumatizing

Eva Stood Work history and connections aren’t that hard (depending on where you live), and so many short term training programs and certificates are available outside of college, sometimes for free or low cost. As for health insurance and a 401k, cashiering at Whole Foods gave me that. Not nearly as exclusive as you’re making it seem. The education system wants people to think they hold the keys to every career path because they make a shitload of money off of it

It’s too bad that people blame their problems and stuff on the school system. I get bullied, I have depression, but I care about my future and I don’t want to struggle so I power through, if you have issues learning you get help, hire tutor, ask a sibling.
This hurt me so badly, I dropped out a few years ago and it still hurt me.
But I can say that seeing other people talking about it gave me a more open perspective of things.

I didn't drop out at 13 to find myself, that came as a result of dropping out of the traditional school system, I was homeschooled and I graduated :) also my mom’s a teacher so she knew exactly what she was doing

I wanted that demographic and to see how they're doing now. They needed some ppl in their late 20s and 30s in this videos. When you're still a teen or early 20s not making a good income isn't a big deal vs when you're late 20s and things get real with having a family or other stuff. Not saying early 20s or a teen can't experience that, but ijs.

Don't limit your choices that severely by not finishing high school please... Even if you are "getting education" through other means, employers want to see that you were able to complete your basic education.
You can always study things at uni/Tafe/College. So finishing school is just an extra thing on your resume that some people don't even care about.

Education is big in my house hold...my mom dropped out of high school and my father sought out a higher education to become an electrician. They were immigrants to this country and I was a first generation American. They always pushed education on me. I feel dropping out of high school is not a good idea. I live in the Bronx, NY and I know several people who dropped out of high school and it’s hard for them to figure things out. They get jobs that are not paid well. And live to basically survive.
On the other hand, dropping out of college is different. College isn’t for everyone. You are definitely more mature enough to understand if you want to continue your education for 2 or 4 more years. I’m an electrical engineer student and college and education was right for me but it’s not right for some other people. As an engineering student I see plenty of people drop out of becoming an engineer or just drop out of college completely because they experienced it and now know it is not for them.
But I think getting your diploma or GED is a good thing to do. If you ever choose to go to college, you have your diploma. A lot of jobs require at least a high school diploma or even a higher education. But what gets me upset is that some people have this mentality of just working to survive....and I understand that life can be ugly and hard at times. But people should strive for success not survival.

I wasn’t expecting to cry during this video, but the question about feeling ashamed hit really hard. I forced myself to go through my first year of college just because I thought if I went I’d feel like I could get somewhere in life, as when left high school I felt almost directionless...I kept trying to pay school, putting myself into debt by paying for tuition partly using my credit card and asking family members to help me fund things, because my job wasn’t paying me enough. For a while-especially when I was out of school for the first year-I felt the need to lie to my cousins, aunts, and uncles who hadn’t seen my awhile about how I was. Dropping out really did negatively impact how some of my family saw me, and I was mentally feeling broken b/c the system that I thought was supposed to make me feel like I could make it in life, that had made me feel some purpose and direction drove me into some of the worst identity issues and depression I’ve ever had. Yes, I had once regretted leaving art school and ditching fine art, but now looking back, I would’ve been forcing myself to do something that I ultimately ended up falling out of love with. Now I’m just working to get myself where I see myself going, but through learning about fashion in retail and more hands-on than I would’ve in school.

I understand parents putting too much pressure on their kids and it breaking them, but at the same time, my parents' pressure and expectations of me helped me realize and fulfill my full potential. They never told me what I had to be, but they were very adamant about going to college and doing well and I think when I was 16-18 I was so focused on my social bubble and little world that I didn't have the perspective I do now to appreciate that they knew my potential and that it was important to prioritize that, even if at the time I felt like it wasn't important and I could just coast along

Hi! That guy is me. Im not here to argue. I have actually never put myself in a public video and only have a youtube account for this purpose. I understand the statement and a lot of that was actually explained. This was a 2 hour shoot edited down into 6 minutes! If you'd like to know more about my background, I'm happy to clarify anything! I actually was not a class clown or a wanna-be badass. I didn't learn like everybody else and often times was in trouble for writing music and drumming on my desks. This was not for attention, but the only way my mind could have a release. My point was, in a smaller environment this may have been recognized and my areas of strength could have been nurtured. Instead, I was punished and humiliated for not acting like everybody else. Fortunately, I had some supporters on my side and now am able to maintain a healthy lifestyle and live in LA with my beautiful fiancé. And the beauty of it all is (as of now) every dime i make is from music mixing and production. Thank god. I do not condone dropping out to wander around and find yourself. I was presented an extremely clear opportunity at 16 which would allow me to make more than the teachers putting me down so I took it. I understand the comment, I would feel the same way watching this cut!

The education system failed me when I was in college because I was severely dyspraxic. It was really hard for me to drop out because I loved school and was a honor student.
Did you not have a person to write for you I had a friend who's was dyspraxic he couldn't use keyboards or have legible hand writing so a teacher had to write what he said in test ect.

I honestly really like these spectrum videos. They are very incitful.
I’m kinda a schoolaholic in a way😂 but I can still so relate to this. Learning to choose your path and being okay with it changing. I had planned to go to med school for the past five years of my life. I was a chem major with biology and psych minors and was about to start shadowing doctors and studying for the MCAT as a junior in college. The problem was I was insanely unhappy and stressed. I would joke about how I will hate the next ten years of my life but then be rich so it would all be worth it. It then hit me that I don’t want to spend my whole entire 10 years of my twenties being absolutely miserable. I happened to fall in love with psychology and plan to teach that and also become a counselor/therapist. We have free counseling at our school and an amazing psych department and I have enjoyed both of those so far and everything just fell into place. I finally feel like I found my purpose. I have even been teaching chem for over a year now (I just started teaching my 3rd class) and I realized how much I love teaching I just don’t really care about this material. I can’t wait to teach psychology and I am enjoying my semester now so much more and just yesterday dropped my bio minor and my super stressful bio class because why in the hell am I getting a bio minor just to prove that I can. It was hard for me to switch and do less because it started to make me feel like I was less. I am not less though and I am still taking 4 classes as well as teaching one and studying for the GRE and I made a decision for my own mental health and happiness and not for money which I think is the strongest and smartest decision I could have made. As one of my psych professors says, “If you are living life without doing something you are passionate about, what are you doing and how are you even living?” -Eric Dodson if you want to check out his awesome UA-cam channel.

Truth of the matter is that minors dont know enough about the world to be autonomous. General education in highschool gives you options. It should be mandatory and a serious failure on the parents part to limit their kids like that.
University is more specialized and i think a lot of kids are pushed into it when they dont have a clear interest. With mine i will advocate that they continue on and train in something after highschool. Hairdresser or organic farming or whatever. It doeant have to be university.
(And if they want to do something useless like gender studies they will be paying for it themselves)

Being able to learn wherever you want whenever you want is a huge bonus, and actually rewards people who love learning. I found a good job, now my college is completely paid for, and I’m continuing to move up in the company. I dropped out as a pregnant teen... my daughter is the same age as I was when I was pregnant with her but she is preparing for college, senior trip and prom because as we grew up together... I’ve had ongoing conversations her entire life about the importance of education... to get it 1st as a back up and also pursue ur dreams with the money u make as a degree holding worker... btw I’m currently enrolled in school for Pharmacology! I decided I am her example even through my mistakes and cannot ever hear from her “well u never finished school”! All she knows is she can struggle as we did through the years or do things the way I say to do them and more than likely struggle significantly less! Life is full of struggles so choose ur path on how hard or not so hard you will struggle the rest of ur entire life! She chose the road with less struggle n I’m proud of her! She’s in a college prep veterinarian program where she’ll continue to study in college to be a vet with credits already established!

I dropped out and now I am going to University again. It was a life lesson for me that life isn't easy(a given, but I still needed to experience it) and if you don't know your path or have a foundation, it won't work. I've learned that dropping out is more often than not just a rebellion without a cause. Do your best and finish uni, while thinking about what you enjoy and honing a FEW carefully chosen skills. This is a huge one, because most people tend to taste a lot of fields and never actually know anything.
I dropped out of college in my third year. I'm from Asia, and the competition and pressure became too much for me, despite being an 'A student' my whole life. I lost faith in the system of education (I majored in education) and decided to pursue my dreams outside of class.
I became a language teacher by other means (passed proficiency in the languages I teach, and then passed certification to teach language). Now I self study other languages and I'm attempting to become certified as a translator.
There are other avenues in life to get you to success. I'm living my dream and I never finished college. I just hope that the culture of companies prioritizing a college degree over actual practical skill changes.
The people who dropped out of college rather than highschool were much more mature and articulate. I think that shows something. You don't need college you do need highschool.
