Split Ring Pliers: The Quick & Easy Way To Replace Treble Hooks
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- We’ve had a bunch of viewers ask us to show you the quickest way to replace treble hooks on your lures.
And even though there are a bunch of videos on how to replace hooks, no one really focused in on the easy, time-saving hack to using split ring pliers (like we’ll show you in the video).
Why might you want to replace the hooks on your lures? Maybe the hooks are dull or rusty and you need new ones, or maybe you want to replace the treble hooks with single hooks (less damage to the fish, and less potential damage to your fingers, arms, legs or even eyes).
Either way, following this tutorial will teach you the quick and easy way to remove treble hooks with split ring pliers.
Enjoy and let us know if you have any questions by leaving a comment below.

Dude you are a life saver! I'm sitting here trying to do this with my fingers, and I have the split ring pliers, I had no idea how they worked. lol.. Thank you ! Day made!
I've always used a small flathead screwdriver and a Long Nose Pliers to change my split rings and hooks. Never knew these existed. Thanks, my life will be easier from now on. 👍👍👍
thank you. the close up was really help full.
Thanks for posting. Waiting for my pliers to be delivered and then I'm gonna put new bucktails on my Mepps spinners. Great video, extremely helpful!
Good luck!
Great. Now I have to go tackle shopping.
I had big fat bass pro split ring pliers. It barely worked but I got the hook on! Thanks for the tips in the video! I had this lure sitting in my garage missing a treble hook for a year now and finally got the hook on!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. Just tried, unsuccessfully, to change out the back treble hook on a floating lure. Now I have a much better chance. BEST
Glad it helped!
Very , very usefull video !!! Thank You !

OMG.
I didn’t even know these existed. After swearing for about 15 minutes yesterday I gave up trying to switch out my treble hooks.
Thank you!

Good evening sir I'm from Kashmir I will ask u 1 question if split ring plier not available and how can I remove it
You can try with other sets of pliers!
Thanks Sir!!
Im trying to put on 2/0 owner st66tns 4x on a size 5 split ring but they just wont go on seems like the hook is just a little too thick? any solution for this other than a bigger split ring?
Thank You------------
Can’t find these? Anyone know an alternative? Need them for small rings, 4mm.
What brand are these pliers? Do you have a link?
Mark Biggs these are made by Field & Stream. Only about 7 bucks and purchased them at Dicks Sporting Goods.
Thanks, Tony!
Good morning. What brand of Split Ring Pliers were used in that video?
Not sure what brand Tony was using in the video since it's been so long ago. However, here is a link to our split ring pliers we sell. They can also cut braided line: fishstrong.com/products/braid-cutting-split-ring-scissors
Nice
My advice is to buy quality split ring pliers. Try Texas Tackle. There are some terrible ones out there.
You are 100% correct. There are some seriously miserable split ring pliers out there. I actually have 3 pair, small medium and large to make life easier. I don't think there is a one size fits all split ring plier out there.
Unfortunately, I saw a recent review indicating that Texas Tackle has significantly cheapened their split ring pliers. If you have one of the old pairs, they're great. But I don't think I'd buy them now.
Genius!
Thanks for checking it out!
Treble👎Single👍 😁😁
Haha!
Salt Strong after watching your Treble hook swap video, I’ve swapped all mine out to single hook, even on my Gotcha plugs 😃
What is the advantage of single hook over treble? Thank you in advance for your response.
Who else uses a split ring on the front of a walking bait and then ties a Palomar?

Great demo - like the idea of taking old one off and new on at same time ..... thanks ......
Thanks for watching!
Great video. It's to the point, clear, well enunciated, and easy to see.
I've been looking for just this information for a while now. I've not had much success attaching charms to charm bracelets. The rings get sprung and stay partially open. I've had the same problem attaching 4 mm rings to connect tags to dog collars. After watching this, I'm pretty sure that my split ring pliers are too big.
Thanks for taking the time to make and upload this video :D
Thank you. The split ring pliers is built-in on my fishing pliers.
5 years later...thank you!
Thanks...
Excellent! Thank you...
My split rings have a gap after putting them on, were they just too cheap?
Thanks for your question! Make sure to ask this over on the actual blog or in the Community

Very helpful, Tony. I bought split ring pliers 3 months ago, and tried puting the pliers OVER the ring to open it. Not very effective. Saltstrong videos are always great. Thanks.
What brand of split ring pliers are you using.
Sorry, don't have a link to the ones in the video since it was so long ago. However, here are the ones we sell: fishstrong.com/products/braid-cutting-split-ring-scissors
thanks for having nice nails. most of these videos have nails with dirt and blood under them.
Thanks! Never had to use them ,age affects my fingers
It is quick he is doing that like in slow moshen. Ha
thanks
You're welcome!
I really like the size and design of the split ring pliers you have for this great video. Where can I find them? Appreciate your help!
These are the Field & Stream split ring pliers from Dick's Sporting Goods. Not sure if they are still available.
I would have liked to hear about what is the other functionality of these pliers. For example, they have this unusual slit. What is that for?
Great question! Make sure to ask this over on the actual blog or in the community where the coaches spend their time
When is the time to put rings on a lure? Im kinda new to these baits. I always used live bait. But I have some that doesn’t have any on.
