  • Glen Campbell was without a doubt one of the hottest session musicians in LA in the early sixties. One of his significant and regular gigs was for THE KINGSTON TRIO, the American folk and pop music group, playing guitar and occasionally singing chorus with the group in the recording studio at Capitol Records. Some of these recordings with Glen's innovative, on-the-spot contributions became mega hits for the TRIO.
In 1964, The Kingston Trio performed at "The Hungry i" nightclub in San Francisco for an extended engagement to develop a live album for Capitol Records. Glen performed on stage with the Trio and also on sessions for the album. Titled BACK IN TOWN, the completed LP was released on May 4, 1964.
John Stewart's introduction of the band onstage included a wonderful (and humorous) intro to Glen. We can't hear Glen's response, if any, to John, but this intro was of huge significance to Glen's legacy as a session musician and entertainer: it was the "first PUBLIC acknowledgement of sideman Glen Campbell," according to liner notes prepared by Capitol Records for THE KINGSTON TRIO THE CAPITOL YEARS.
*Fans of Glen's 12-string guitar playing may want to check out this album to enjoy his unmistakeable playing. Thanks for watching!
