      People: Trent you should do a podcast.
      Trent: (in a monotone voice)
      Hi. This is my podcast. I'm going to talk a bit and ask someone a few questions. Then I will listen to their answers and then proceed to discuss the answers to those questions. I will do this for a certain length of time.. all the while I will be Recording the conversation.
      Then when we are finished with our conversation I will upload what I have recorded to the internet so that you may listen to our conversation. If you like Nine Inch Nails you will probably enjoy the conversation.
      (Exactly how I always imaged a Nine Inch Nails podcast would be.) 😎

      Same. It's because of him that I became an audiophile. I was like 14 when I came across The Downward Spiral and I had never heard anything like it before. I was entranced. I'm 32 now and have a collection of all his Halos, and most LPs.
      It also introduced me not just electronic music but industrial, darkwave, and post punk.

    People are in a constant rate of change, and artists are people. You can't expect them to stay the same forever, no one expects any of you to either. I personally love the new album, Trent is using technology to his advantage and not letting himself fall into the idea that "new is shit". I mean did you guys see the light show he put on at his show?? That would not have been possible without his passion for electronics and technological advancement, and yes it's not supposed to be a rave, and I think it was far from that, but you have to admit it was pretty bad ass. Oh and by the way thanks for posting this interview. Cheers!

    • @TheFos88
      @TheFos88 3 роки тому +3

      I've been a huge fan since the early 2000s, and there isn't a single track he's put out that I didn't like. If I had to choose just one piece out of his catalogue, if say Starfuckers inc. and even with that, I don't hate it, it's just my least liked track.
      I grew up and matured along side his maturing and evolving music throughout the years and that's fucking cool.

    • @babyhandgrenade4004
      @babyhandgrenade4004 6 років тому +3

      Olda Kamenetski totally agree. I'm a survivor of childhood abuse and domestic violence and his music has helped me so many times. I can relate to his lyrics so well. Like for example at the end of the be coming when he says Won't Give Up it wants me dead goddamn this noise inside my head that's like my self loading because of what I put up with and my low self-esteem because of it as well. I think it could also be applied to mental illness which I have as a result of the abuse. His music has literally saved my life countless times. I am so grateful for him. And I just wish there was a way I could tell him. I suppose on Twitter but I'm sure he's heard it a hundred times. But I really mean that. There are people who don't understand his process and don't understand his genius and I feel sorry for those who don't and dismiss him as a poser saying that his music is not really industrial. I don't really like to try to fit it into a neat little box or any category. He just is who he is which is an amazing artist and as I said a genius.

      @@babyhandgrenade4004 well said and I can relate with your experience. Thanks for sharing. I have drafted a Medium article about how NIN's music has been with me since the downward spiral release when I was a teenager. Now, I'm almost 40 years old, recovering from my on suffering, Trent's music has helped me through ALL emotions (happy, sad, depression, alcoholism, etc.). Today, I'm in a good place and hands down NIN has always been in my top 3 favorite bands. My #1,2, and 3 revolve back and forth depending on where I'm at in my life.

So many of us just breathe eat and just live for nine inch nails.. It's unfortunate that a lot of people haven't realized how his records work.. For the first listen there are songs that you instantly like and some that's weird but then you start recognizing the beauty and order..

    i think hesitation marks is the best album trent has ever done and its link with the album downward spiral, which is a great album too, brings together a life journey of depth and substance. i have those two albums and listen to them back to back. now i know why. i also recommended this youtube video, trent - a conversation with, to my daughter who is studying music technology at uni, it might give her a few tips with electronic music construction, arrangement etc. which she is into.

    love the unreleased songs on here, hope they make it on to an album at some point. I've been a NIN for over 20 years now and I'm glad to see him grow and try new things. the reason he's not making the same music he did on Downward Spiral anymore is because he already made Downward Spiral, he's clearly in a different head space. If he kept making the same old record over and over people would probably bitch that he's not doing anything new. I really like the new album, i think its a logical progression for him.

    NIN has been my favorite band since the 90s, even if there are periods where I might not listen to any of his/their music for several months. More and more, over the years, especially over the past 5 years perhaps, I've come to realize he might be my favorite rock star idol, if he will forgive me for boosting him to that status. I greatly admire him because he is able to talk about deep emotions, and go so much deeper during conversations than other human beings go. I'd be willing to bet that he is often bored with surface-level "chit-chat" conversation that has lesser meaning. I'm still wondering about his Myers-Briggs personality, and wondering if it's INFJ or INTJ; something like that, perhaps?

    Love his awareness of the sound around him, to comment on the birds. I record myself doing something and when I play it back, I hear things that I did not even notice while recording. Just a small example of his attention to detail.

    So glad All Time Low made it onto the album, that was/is a dope track. NIN can do funk all day, everyday.

    I would be so grateful if Trent ever did a breakdown of his actual recording or songwriting method. The sounds he gets are amazing and there are so many layers in his songs that make me wonder how the hell does he do that

      He is LITERALLY doing that here. We're grateful.

      @@cbd1nonle912 don’t get me wrong I appreciate any peek behind the curtain especially for Trent’s music. I just meant if he had something like going thru a pro tools session with all his tracks and soloing each one and having him explain what he used or was thinking about for each sound. Similar to Rick beatos series I guess but from the man himself.

    I think that the unreleased songs are better than Everything

      Everyone is hating on Everything, but from the first listen, I took it as a parody of radio rock…. like, doing it better than radio bands with the verse part, and then kicking it's ass in the chorus.
      I think he's aiming for a purpose with that song, rather than trying to make "the best song ever" again…….. since he's made that one a hundred times.
      Just my 2 cents ;)

    This new one is really, really creative. Actually, when I first heard it...I fired it out of the car CD player and tossed it, in to the rear seat..
    Then I had a 6 hour drive and thought I'd give it another try.. well I listened to it for a good 5 hours.. I realized this was a ton of work...a ton.
    The spare ness. "Dissappointed," was like your listening to someone across the table from you. This new work is very visual in your imagination.
