One of the Top characters but I think the writers were really lazy giving her re-introduction too much in common with Bea's story especially since Bea hadn't been long out of the show. Full marks to Anne for playing it a different way and making Myra more introspective and vulnerable , cause Bea was always sure of herself and seemed to relish to power aspect of the role. The writers were obviously just looking for a new Bea Smith once they lost interest in the Minnie and Cass team. Judy could only ever be a stand in she did not have the charisma or strong prescience needed for a Top Dog. I hope Myra has some exciting story lines ahead I'm still watching it in chronological order up to 429.
It worked out for the best , the Desmond era was pretty fast paced and seemed to have a good villain all the time to the end. However if she’d stayed on the show would have stuck with a middle aged narrative and probably got axed sooner. If Myra had stayed to the end no Rita and the show would not have begun to look fit for the 80s.
Well spotted. Your right, the character Myra Desmond does not appear until 1980. I think you spotted this from the end credits? The end credits are what Iv used on all my clips. Its the same one as its been so much easier for me. I didn't think anyone would spot it. HAHA
No, what I meant is that PCBH episodes were filmed up to six months in advance a bit like other soaps. Do you think that the Eastenders shown on TV today was filmed yesterday? It was filmed about 3 months ago! Same with Emmerdale, the eiposdes shown last week had snow in them! We had snow in mid february!
But then again it depends how early in 1980 she joined? The early 1980 episodes (up to about march/april) would have been filmed in 1979. They were flmng about six months in advance I believe.
best actress in the show, made very realistic her firm but fair attitude amidst terrible actresses e.g lou kelly. also a very physical top dog with the world on her shoulders,my favourite and best era of the show forget rabbitt and ettie some silly characters and actresses but myra, judy, cass, reb stealed it for me,even beas early fight scences are very unrealistic in comparison to myra, queen of wentwoth.
Gary Hewitt While i loved Bea and really missed her at first once Myra came back and took over as Top Dog the show got really good again. In my opinion the character of Myra Desmond saved the show.
They actually shared some scenes prior to Anne being cast as Myra. One was quit surreal it must have been within the first 20 episodes when Anne was cast as background officer there is actually a scene where Bea is locked into her cell and guess who's the warden on the other side of the bar. She also played a simple minded comedic character called Bernadette who had a few brief lines.
Anne passed away today. Was nice to revisit her in this, and celebrate her later work away from the cameras. Thanks.
I love Myra. It's great how she became a major character.
When the series was syndicated to the USA,the end credits included the logo for the show’s original distribution Firestone Program Syndication.

Officer Manson and Bernadette were the other two roles she played before Myra Desmond. :)
Hated it when Myra was shot dead, the actress wanted a pay rise, didn't get it so opted to leave and was killed off.

Gary Hewitt no way mate.Queen Bea defined the role of top dog!
Gary Hewitt I thought Louise Siversen was a good actress.
