Disney Imagineers Develop Cutting-edge, Free-roaming Robotic Actor
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 вер 2024
- Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development is developing a small-scale, free-roaming robotic actor that can take on the role of our similarly-sized Disney characters. Its tightly integrated design provides over 50 degrees of freedom in a compact platform that can walk, gesture, and emote in style. Using custom authoring tools that combine whole-body motion planning and traditional character animation, artists can quickly bring robotic characters to life with expressive motions and interactive behaviors. There are no immediate plans for use in Disney theme parks; however, a prototype in the form of Groot is being used to test unique traits, gaits and capabilities.

"So just be aware: the characters do tend to wander a bit. Uhh, they’re left in some kind of "free-roaming mode" at night. Uhh... something about their servos locking up if they get turned off for too long. Uhh... they used to be allowed to walk around during the day, too, but then there was the Bite of '87."
hor hor hor hor.. hor hohorhor hor hor hor hor hor
everyone: wAS THAT THE BITE OF 87?!
groot: 👁️👄👁️
I swear If Disney purchases Five Nights At Freddy’s…….
I'm leaving this earth.
It might finally become palatable
I’m glad universal has some of the rights for it
Universal made the movie
Someone’s gonna re-enact the MCI, I’m calling it
This looks really unreal
Can't wait for a actual Freddy roaming around a pizzaria
ur still commenting?
@@NoobSharkYTwhat? 💀
Same bro
It's so cute! (Until it steals your flashlight at 5:56am)
Enragement
I recall a particular videogame that brings up freeroaming animatronics
I hope this technolgy gets into parks!
Imagine a free roam meet and greet though that would be awesome
De Santis is One
@@LavigneProductions Ok.

Guess i shouldnt be surprised. Disney is the one to make terminators possible. Robots havenbt really been able to walk very well. Until groot.
lol
Boston dynamics.....
Boston Dynamics has had them beat for awhile now. Atlas has been doing flips for a hot minute already
@@baitposter Of course ive seen that. But the robot is very top heavy. Eventually the design would have to be streamlined. But those machines are simply templates. They have figured out how to teach them to walk. so they will be upgrading machines all over from now on.
Groot 2.0 will probably be a real as possible.
The biggest problem for robots for a long time, is balance. The ability to walk, and use their limbs. This is why very early robots have been stiff or on wheels. You can get a patent from bostonDYN, and now apply what you learn to your own machines, and eventually they will be able to walk and run normally. That robot is just the ground work being laid down. And groot takes it further.
The ability to build a real machine companion, is more than poissible now, its inevitable.
The only question is, do we need them to be intelligent?
I dont think so. R2 and C3P0 got by without the deep ability for thought, with the majority of their processing power going towards their jobs, and their personality, to be friend those around them. Star wars famously has droid's that dont think.
Thats what we need. We only need to advance them in functionality. No intelligence is really needed. Dexterity.
Personally Id rather see protocol droids like R2 or the droid from fallen order.
A little helper that serves to help you make calls, play music, project holograms and help you do certain kinds of jobs, like mechanics, or play. Something agile, that can climb, and hang on without falling, that can rest on your shoulder or follow you around.
Boston Dynamics is WAY ahead.
It’s crazy how much of his personality comes through just his legs!
Working in an environment like this was my childhood dream
I hope one day we can have bigger models
FNAF
It's not fnaf you- oh right the pfp
Human sized would be great
As always I want to say to our future robot overlords that I love you and can't wait for your day to come.
Freddy fazbears pizza become real?
The Disney Imagineers are doing fantastic work replicating natural movements, well done!
these videos be like : ARE YOU READY FOR FNAD ?! aka five night at disney
the problem with animatronics is that somebody is definitely going to try and push it over. that's because they aren't people and you need something way more dextrous than even a human to be so light weight with it's weight distributed so unevenly that can get back up quickly enough not to be pushed over by some snot nosed kid.
Or snot nosed drunk adult
Or try to steal it.
The ability to get up quickly won't protect it much if some obnoxious clout-chasing teenager sends it flying with a kick
@@johncarpenter2000sounds like a broken toe
The Simpsons predicted this when they visited Itchy & Scratchy land
After animating paper figurines. The easiest thing Todo. Ave Sir Disney.
EXTREMELY impressive! 😳 What do you bet Groot walks out on stage during D23 Expo 2022?
what if they give it its own mind or atleast have him real eyes to sence people and smile of wave?
If they realease one of these animatronics in the park its probably going to have technolgy to sense people
Are you insane
Ah yes, the famous mind that disney knows how to make
"So, just be aware, the characters do tend to wander a bit. Uh, they're left in some kind of free roaming mode at night. Uh... Someone could just pick that thing up and run with it
But then there was the bite of ‘27
Wow this robot character is so cute and amazing
Imagine if they put a LLM in one of these. With some cameras.
0:28 SHUT UP. Is that the New Fantasyland dragon?!
Cool, but Bill Castle did this over 60 years ago with the Tingler.
Imagine this in 20 years? Crazy
About in Mickey and Minnie’s runaway railway queue in the Mickey thru the ears queue you put in the epic Mickey stuff cause that’s a part of mickeys history
they used to let them walk around during they day, too, but then there was the bite of '87.
Alright Nvidia, I see you were planning this for a while now XD
Security guard gonna be real mad
Could've been spent on Epcot. Thanks..
I still remember Asimov at world of tomorrow. Time flies
0:53 groot was there
Pinocchio about to get that wish 😦
Why isnt it speaking I am Groot like 50 x already ?
Wired and remote controlled, nothing to worry about here. They should license some ip from Boston Dynamics.
I laughed at the part where it fell over and that guy dove in to try and save it with a cushion 😂😂
This is exactly why I don’t get the hype around the Tesla bot 😅
So another robot that walks like its going to poop.
Umm they use to walk in the day but there were the bite of 27
One day it will traced back that Disney created skynet
Well done Groot.
0:35 This man failed the quick-time event.
Wait that remind me someting...hummm lets me see.. Futureworld !
Maybe they can teach us to interact with each other more, huh?
No child actor 2025' ? Free robotics books and no used servo motors without limit blocks. No pinched fingers with soft Legos #disney #lego
Fascinating how a robot from 2021 can still only move like one from a sci fi movie from the 60s
There’s an entire video game based off of how this is a horrible idea
what could possib-lie go wrong?
I feel bad for the night gaurds
Meanwhile this got shelved.
Woohoo.!
And of course the police and military is gonna get that tech too :(
Que genial ❤
I love groot very cool
De Santis is One of These Robots...Really Look at him.
Found the guy who like child pron
I knew it. They're making androids in the hollow earth! 😂
Hopefully there won’t be five children going missing
They should do a Rocket Raccoon too.
Or mechagodzilla!
Boston Dynamics robots has gone far beyond this. It's almost as if Disney is working at reinventing the wheel. Compare this with their video: "Do You Love Me" Boston Dynamics. Here on youtube.
Or you could just hire a little person.
God! I love him so bad! I wish him smarter than that🤤🤑🌱
The Disney team led the world with audio Animatronics. So we shouldn’t be surprised to see them innovating robotics. I’d really love to work with Disney, because they’re imaginative.
Five nights at treasure island lore
So where is this in the parks?
Finally!! Bring back our prictical effects!!! CGI is so bad!!! Save us! We need a new Jim are you him!!!???
can it hold a knife?
❤❤❤
Is it rule-based movement?? I’m of the opinion we’ll never move past the uncanny valley if it’s rule-based; the bot needs to learn how to move for itself. 👍👍
Looks promising but still not as convincing as a little person in a suit.
Remember the family guy episode where Miley Cyrus was an android created by Disney imagineering soon Disney will be rolling out androids then shortly after the terminator!
this would be a dream job for me making stuff like this.
Same but involves alot of math and very difficult topics
Say good by to paid actors 😂
MICHAEL AFTON NOOOOOOO 💀
FNAF begins.
Detroit become human
Kinda makin boston dynamics look like shit in half the time 😂
If they want to hire me as the audio engineer, I can program the vocals.
Hey, he’s got a cable! NOT free roaming! Dis-knee clickbait 😣😖😕
yoooooooo
nothing new Canceled
free roaming? with a wire?
NOPE
It's fake.
Yeah, but is he gay?
Why not save the research costs and just buy better technology from a company that's already got this stuff ready to go off the shelf?
I'm creating a free mobile puppetry charity for children's hospitals, maybe you'd like to help?
