On the topic of 45-70s, I got my dad his dream gun for Christmas last year. The Henry lever action is a beauty. We were out hunting this season and he was in a blind when two big does come up. He shoots one and drops it immediately. He shoots the other and it runs about 200 yards away. He sat for 2 hours waiting for me to walk to his location. The first doe was dead on impact, however the other was still laying there head up and we had to use another round to la cabeza. Interestingly, when we gutted it, it was apparent the first round had actually pierced the heart but didn't damage it greatly. It was a hollow point 300 grain. We have that bullet in our safe now. Amazing what whitetail are capable of
460S&W It's the fastest, flattest shooting, most efficient, most versatile chambering of a straight walled cartridge and can do everything (practical) a 45-70 can within SAAMI specs. Rifle or pistol. All this with the caveats that while straight walled cartridges are very efficient in terms of internal ballistics the bullets tend to not be particularly efficient (there are long, relatively efficient bullet for 45-70 that can be loaded beyond the 2.550" SAAMI spec). And that a significant portion of the versatility of the 460S&W chambering (at least for the non-reloader) comes from being able to use reduced power cartridges like the 454Casull and 45Colt which technically are different cartridges.

@@paulwheeler3723false. chili with beans is chili. Chili without beans is also chili. My favorite straight walled cartridge is the 50-110. Winchester chambered it in the 1886 model. In the modern 1886 rifles made in Japan, that cartridge can produce over 6000 foot pounds of energy!
Fantastic show and I have learnt a lot from watching you gentlemen as a newer shooter. Whether that be the 10 min talks or the long form discussions I appreciate all of it. Meatball: What cartridge best describes Jimmy?

Meatball: Scotch or Bourbon? Side note: most of my fellow Texans say no beans but I have to admit I’ve had great chili with and without so either way works for me.
45-70 is not legal in Michigan's straight wall Limited Firearms area. I use the 350 Legend. The 450 Bushmaster is also very popular, but costs more per round to shoot. And in more recoil over the 350.
My Chile had BEANS, and is thick. A spoon must be able to stand up in it. Dark red kidney beans and the meat is straight venison. No added fat. I add bay leaves for additional flavor, and 99% on the people whom tried it, liked it.
My preview said "best all around straight wall cartridge" I said 357M/38 SP. If we are talking about hunting, I cannot argue with 45/70 OR .350L LOL fun episode.
.308 maybe for big game, which is my main hunting interest. It would be overkill for midsized game like coyotes, but you don't really eat mid size game so no worry. Small game would be a challenge, headshots for rabbits if you want any edible meat. You'd almost have to hit a squirrel with the shrapnel from the tree its on if you wanted to actually eat it lol. What do you think?
Best overall for NA game and regular sized African plains game would be a .30-06. Go very light at 110 grains to heavy loans up to 220. Recoil most people can handle. Can find ammo anywhere. Fairly cheap to order.
MARK IS %100 CORRECT! Chili without beans is not chili. Corn and other veggies make it a southwestern soup... Cincinnati chili is feally only good on a hotdogLove the videos guys.
45-70 actually has the ability to go up to a 500 grain bullet from an off the shelf manufacturer (buffalo bore). Giving the cartridge even more versatility!
