i only own one nba jersey and its blake wesleys! i am a notre dame mbb fan and i have watched every spurs game since blake has been in the league and i am so excited for whats to come for blake
Went to HS with him, was a swing jv/varsity player his freshman year and was the guy ever since. Was such a dominant scorer through hs and showed it at ND as well. Cool to see him really developing his defense and that was shown with great reps on elite players this year, one of Devin Booker really stood out. His effort/intensity on that end worth his speed and ability to run out will really help him be a multi-contract guy. Really want to see him polish his offensive game, he has the talent just has to build his confidence and feel for the game and not forcing shots
Great video! This is exactly what I was looking for in terms of talking Spurs. And reading the comments of a great video like this is even better. It’s like everyone in the comments has a great understanding of what’s going on in the Spurs organization and how we like to build. Dude, this is like heaven for me. lol
I'm a Blake Wesley fan. His quickness, wingspan, and athleticism give him a high ceiling and, yes, he does continue to improve. My biggest concern is his basketball IQ. You say it is there because he continues to adapt and improve, but point guards need to be brilliant court generals who see plays before they happen, don't turn the ball over, and who know how and when to get teammates involved. I'm still waiting to see him show that ability on a consistent basis. He NEEDS more minutes to allow him to develop. If he can improve in the mental part of his game I think that he has a chance to be the starter because he has the physical attribuites for sure.
Champagnie is not a starter. I think most Spurs fan know that. But a VW-Sochan-Wesley as a defensive force would be interesting to see. Add Vassell and one 3&D wing and those five are a clutch time team I would like to see in the future.
I really like this kid, but I wonder if there are enough minutes for him to develop once the 2024 rookies, one of whom should be a PG, come in. I'm very curious about the Spurs' plan for him going forward, to say the least.
He's a unique player to say the least. His defense had a stretch this year where he looks even better than Sochan in terms of 1 on 1 perimeter defensive pest. Think the game where Trae had like 30 in the first half and got shut down in the second. That defense could get him some valuable minutes as we'll be in alot of close games where getting a stop will be bigger than a bucket. Offensively outside of elite speed with some driving and simple reads he's basically a ball of clay that is about as raw as you'll see for an NBA player. If I'm Blake I become obsessive with watching Alex Caruso and Jalen Suggs on how they operate the game (both of those fellas have a way more complex offensive repertoire rn) Essentially aim to be a combo guard that embraces the trench work on the perimeter but with very few exploitable holes in their offensive games.
Malaki is good and look like he has lot of potential, but watching him play, he looks like more concerned on his smoothness than having an impact on the floor
Spurs need to go After Moussa Diabate From Clippers - French and can get rebounds might work well with wemby. Wesley is huge upside and plays great with wemby - We saw that starting off in Vegas
Let me be honest for a second. Before this season started i was Malaki over Wesley train 🚂. Malaki was a shooter Wesley isn't. Malaki could create his own shot. Wesley was out of control everytime he stepped on the court. But as the season went along. I was reminded of our 19 year run. 50+wins every season with Tim Duncan at the Helm. What i was missing at the beginning of the season was NOT EVERYONE has to shoot 3s. Tony Parker hit 3s every now and then, Boris Diaw etc all shot 3s whenever they were wide open. With all that being said: i am 1000% Wesley over Branham. You can't teach hustle, You can't teach heart and you can't teach giving 100% on every play. Blake Wesley is the slasher we need to get shooters open. He is definitely 150% better defender than Malaki Branham. So if we had to choose one to keep and one to trade (because you can't pay everyone) WESLEY > BRANHAM
Cannot teach speed and quickness either. That one play where he took the ball from the FT line on the opponents side of the court and dunked it at the other end was an indication of his potential. I say give him one more year playing 15-20m/game
Basically dude haas 0 offense other than his dunk😂, dude cant shot 3, cant shot midrange, mid finisher around the rim.. yea the spurs aint got time for him to develop all that
I suppose if you're comparing him to Samanic and Primo he's defintetly a better 1st round prospect than them. He's got some nice built in skills but his shooting is a lot worse than you're giving him credit for. The freethrow percentage is what really scares me, because of that stat I don't think he's ever gonna be a good enough shooter to stay on the floor even with the 2nd unit once our team starts to fill out with better more veteran players.
I like Blake and think he has some potential, but if he isn’t better than Tre and one on the main needs for this team right now is a PG, I don’t really understand why we should buy into his stock. The spurs and more than likely going to get another PG this off-season, likely in the draft. Yes he can play SG and maybe even SF but for him to reach his full potential I feel that he’d have to play point. He’s a great defender and super fast but like someone else in the comments said, his IQ is questionable. As of right now, it’s looking like he’ll be fighting for a bench role next season so again, I don’t full understand why we should be investing stock in him. With our many many first round picks incoming in the future, if we don’t look to trade them, we’ll probably come to a point where we’ll have to consider whether or not we can draft a better guy than Blake. For next season, he’ll be a good backup in case of injuries but I’m just not fully invested into his stock in San Antonio.
When did Tre Jones come into his own...3rd year? He's probably reached his ceiling. But with Blake, give him a third year and hell prove to be a better future prospect than Tre.
Wesley can't shoot at all and poor free throw shooter for a point guard who has the ball, so no, there's no upside. Then everyone said point guard is our weakness.

Blake is a keeper for one more year to see if he has a breakout year...and I predict he will. His speed and quickness will benefit a VW era.

Agreed. I see Branham as a trade asset with Keldon and possibly Vassell depending on the trade value.
