Sad sad,I know if I was a multi millionaire, I would have bought a few DC-6s and 7s and restored them as they looked when new . I would have taken them to airshows. The crews would all be done up in the uniforms of that time period. They would be on display at local airports and stored at aviation museums inside during bad weather . I loved the rumble of those machines. I am now 66 and I was 17 when those aircraft started to be retired and replaced by DC -9s and 737/ 727 . People don't know how classic that it was compared to today. Yup, progress keeps coming. Cheers to the bye gone era .

I appreciate your comment. Although I am only 2 years behind you, I distinctly remember those days. I especially remember the days before fan jets, when the turbojets ruled. They still shook windows from 3 miles away! I remember the sound of the engines on the DC-7, etc. made for the best sleeping pills. But most of all, I really miss the elegance of air travel. Airlines competed on having the best service and the flying public was a class act itself.

I remember going to the beach in 1965 down Lakewood Blvd. Before the 605 opened. They used to tow airplanes across Lakewood Blvd. And stop traffic. Pretty amazing sight as a 6 year old kid.

Was that a Catalina Flying Boats Goose early on?

Wow... It is so difficult to tell. I checked out some photos of twin engine flying boats, and it could very well be a Grumman model... But a Catalina is a really good guess also.

It could be any one of a dozen aircraft, I'm leaning away from a pby because of a lack of separation of body and wing, could be a widgeon or a mallard, pbm variant although i dont think its that big, my humble $0.02 worth. Years ago i got to ride in a mallard very cool experience.

My favorite airplane. I used to see their tails hanging over the 405 fwy. I was only a kid then so I couldn't get over to see them.

Pretty sure that poor thing is a DC-6B judging by the N-number
