"Oslo city center" (Oslo Sentrum) is located on the southeast side of Oslo near the inner "Oslofjord", which is the core of Oslo inside the first ring road, plus the area around the "Royal Palace" and "Tjuvholmen" island. This is the area around Oslo's main street, "Karl Johans gate", and the "Akershus fortress" overlooking the harbor and the great "Oslo fjord". The building "Oslo Opera House" (Operahuset), which is the home of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, and the national opera house in Norway is situated also in Oslo city center (Bjørvika neighborhood) at the head of the "Oslo fjord". The Oslo Sentrum area is home to many key sights, national institutions, and an array of hotels and restaurants. Oslo city center is definitely the starting point for most visitors.
