  • HEATING is one of my top priorities given winter’s fast approach. I’ve ordered my new Refleks diesel stove from Lockgate Stoves and my first job is to build the hearth for the stove to be mounted on. I also check to see if the fridge works after the journey down here

    Fridge next to the heat is not a good idea.

    15:25 Given that it's going to be a family boat with many mouths to feed, I'd give thought to a fridge under the counter and a dedicated freezer under the stairs where you were previously going to put the fridge. You could provision the boat less frequently and the freezer would pay for itself through less take out.

    The small cable could be one of 2 things. My Inlander came with a cable with an LED to show fault codes. But its more likely to be the switched feed to go to some external fans that you mount behind the fridge to draw in cold and expel warm air

      I’m going to put a bulb on it and see

      You can indeed put an external fan on Inlander fridges using the "F" terminal, but as that wire is on the "D" terminal it's going to be the diagnostic LED.

    Definitely worth putting in the wall behind the heater before the heater is installed ... otherwise you'll have to work around and behind it?

    I love reading the comments, lol. I don’t know how you do it, but I’m proud of you.
    I like the fridge on the angle because of your kitchen layout. But, as I’ve said before, I know little about narrowboats or your lifestyle.
    Tell Carol hi and I hope she’s doing well.

      I’m reckoning it’s not going to be much warmer there than anywhere else in the galley. I’ll check though once the stove is in. I can always put the fridge on port opposite the washing machine

    Make sure you are leaving enough room from wall and cabinet frame for tile and whatever else you need space wise. It looks like you have it right up against those two surfaces, with no allowances. All the best from Missouri.

    @James the Higher the number the Colder the fridge will be, so 7 will be the Coldest setting and 1 will be the Warmest setting.
    As far as the extra wires go, they could be for a few things like an external Thermostat or an external Indicator Light to show that the fridge is running or a shutoff switch.
    What you should is take your multimeter and check to see if they're "live" and to see how many volts they're putting out. If it's around 5 volts or so it's most likely for an indicator light and if it's less than 2 volts then it's most likely a thermostat. 👍👍
    Oh and I think you should put the fridge on the diagonal section of the countertop, it looks better and it would be more functional there while cooking. Also the flue pipe would look better shaped like this ↓

    It has been fun in these last two videos to see/hear your thinking as you work things out. I wonder if it's useful to you to talk out loud to yourself. You have a good way of being open to others' ideas, yet keeping to your sense of what works for you.

    That thin cable should have a LED on the end of it, and is used by the electronics to flash a diagnostic code pattern if a fault occurs. You can just remove the cable if you don't want that feature.
    Inlander take normal 230 VAC fridges and replace the compressor with a 12/24 VDC one of their own design. Somewhere in or on the fridge there should be the original fridge's make and model number. This means you can order replacement parts, such as shelves, online if you need them.
    The fridge will get colder as higher numbers are selected on the thermostat.

      I was thinking that but as I said it doesn’t get that hot and as long as there is adequate fire proofing I’m thinking it won’t be any hotter than anywhere else. I’ll check though once it’s all in

    Are you definitely having to connect the dishwasher waste to a gulper ? They're normally already pumped

    • @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt
      @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt  11 місяців тому

      Sorry I meant washing machine. Basically if the outlet to the cut is too high then the sink will require a gulper and maybe the washing machine too

    • @sarkybugger5009
      @sarkybugger5009 11 місяців тому +1

      @@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Washing machines can pump above their own height, James. That can go straight out. The main factor is the depth of your sink, and the height of the outlet. Do boats have waste traps, or do they go straight out the side, like a caravan?

    • @YaaLFH
      @YaaLFH 11 місяців тому +1

      @@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Both washing machine and dishwasher have built in pumps that can handle this easily, you only need a gulper for sink if you go for a very deep one.

    • @jamesedge8027
      @jamesedge8027 11 місяців тому +1

      I think your idea of the washing machine fixed to a common gulper with the sink is a non starter think about it the washing machine starts to pump into the gulper inlet who is going to switch the gulper on otherwise you will pump the wahing machine into the sink so need 1 way valves which might cause back pressure issues. By the time you have finished effing around it would be much simpler to fit an additional skin fitting which is not a major job, one hole and a bit of sealer

    • @nateellis628
      @nateellis628 11 місяців тому

      @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt your appliances will have their own pump to discharge waste, hopefully you've got enough height for the sink then you'll need no extra gulper 🙏😉

    When I built my 50ft nb, instead of a radiator in the main part of the boat, I installed Discrete Heat Thermaskirt. I only installed on one side of the nb and it does work well to provide background heating with main heat from a multi fuel stove. The Thermaskirt uses pumped hot water from a Webasto water heater. If I had installed Thermaskirt on both sides of the nb, I would have not installed the multi fuel. I didn't because the Thermaskirt was installed after the main fit out as an afterthought. C'est la vie! Enjoy watching your challenges!
