- Like breathing burning oil? Go ahead and tailgate. Saw this today on the highway - the heavy cloud of smoke over the last mile showed he didn't get off at the last exit.

I'm sorry to say that this happened to me once in my 01 TDI once back in 2007 I think. The turbo blew. (Right after having the air intake cleaned at a shop, was driving it home from there...so very suspicious.)
I was very close to home so I limped it there, trying not to keep the turbo from spooling up, so I accelerated very little.
When I got home I check the oil and there was almost none left. I later found a ton of it in the exhaust system and some in the Intercooler. I got lucky...no damage, other than the turbo.
That was the start of a lot of upgrades. Car has about twice the power now, better reliability, and same great fuel economy. (I actually just ordered fancy leather seats for it from LeatherSeats.com...Black Friday sale. Probably the fist non-mechanical upgrade I've every done to it, but the driver's seat has developed a spot where it's worn through...so what the heck.)

Yah I was fallowing a transport last night on the way to a job interview. I'm guessing his turbo failed as i've had a turbo fail on my tdi and it was spewing the same smell and color but he drove for a good 3 min and when he finally pulled over i'm pretty sure it was because the engine ran out of oil. Haa haa that 5k or 6k$ would have turned into a 25k to 30k for that stunt Bahahahahaha

Hahaha what the hell. Why wont that guy get off the road. If thats happening and a check engine light still hasnt come on id be impressed (altho it was probably alredy on and they didnt care enough to take it in
