You don’t really have to be married in Malaysia only. You can get married elsewhere i.e your home country, BUT you must register your marriage at JPN. Else it will not be honored here in Malaysia.
Most countries recognise valid registration from other countries. If Malaysia doesn't have a system to honour international systems, Malaysia better restrict all non-citizens no?
Actually u can get marriage at your country but must register back to Malaysia that must. Coz my parent married in pilipine and get married cert from pilipine do all passport after that take the cert from pilipine to Jpn malaysia register back. That process 30years ago don't know right now.

I married my Australian wife and got PR instantly! Under subclass 100.. we eventually moved out of malaysia, planning to get citizenship after 4 years here.

On top of it, nothing moves easy in Malaysia when it comes to work. Appointments are hard with unreasonable amount of wait times.
Malaysians are good, but the unnecessary bureaucracy in local government is what people want to avoid and makes people move to other countries.
